mine are:

...only hearing about releases two weeks after they sold out everywhere...

...the disappointment when discovering the visually graded VG+++ records you bought were all cheap for a reason....

what are yours?

... that records take up a lot of storage space when you accumulate many in your collection.

... that it can be difficult to convince people who have never heard records reproduced well that records can actually sound fantastic.

The pressing quality, it is a lottery as to what you get, warped, clicks and pops, surface noise, even on some very expensive new vinyl.

Absolutely agreed that the quality is a lottery thing, even worst if you didn't open them until after a few months later and might not be able to return.

Even returning and getting refund is a nightmare. And by the time you have done it, they are sold out already and you missed out...

all the above, especially the rip off price's for new vinyl, and don't get me started on the extravagant prices for audiophile  and limited edition pressings, having been bought up with vinyl and owning thousands including heaps of audiophile pressings of albums, not to mention the various turntables/cartridges/step up transformers/phono stages/cleaning equipment etc ,i now have some sanity left as i no longer have any vinyl or vinyl playing equipment, however i still enjoy music  immensely yep cds/sacds and streaming,😁
PS, not trying to turn this into a vinyl vs cd or streaming cat fight, just my life experiences with vinyl.

Price & poor quality control............ (I am now making less LP purchases due to this)

Oh and when people get their knickers in a knot because someone says "Vinyls" -

yes we know it is really Record or LP or Vinyl (if you must)

but seriously if people use an "s" on the end of Vinyl does it really matter?

Only time I get in a twist is with Sibilance - sssssssssssssss

PS life is too short to be bitter and so am I !!!!

A quote I have to keep reminding myself every time I feel like flying into a pedantic rage is “Dictionaries are not rule books, they’re record books. ” I can try to keep up with the language as it evolves but I can’t control it, and that’s as it should be.

Except for “vinyls.” Screw that! 😂

Worst thing about Vinyl is that it sounds much better than digital. I wish it didn't as everything about it is a pain in the a$$.

That sipping a strong liquor quickly, provides enough time to cause errors when changing sides, like dropping the needle without using the tool for such, or failing to find the disc's edge several times in a row.... more sipping doesn't make it better either.......  :)

Xackly!  :(  I can't help worrying about the cause!  Is it:

  • the way I set the arm/cart up?
  • my gear?
  • or on the LP?

Does that mean, April:

  • you are short?
  • or you're bitter????

Having recently come back to the world of TT and vinyl from a time gone and now seriously searching material….the cost of some new releases are outrageous.

looking through some of my LP’s and 12” I acquired way back ‘84 to about ‘93 that I had carted around with me ( much to my wife’s amusement) I am astounded at what $$$ these would sell for.

Records arriving warped, scratched, scuffed. And that's new records.

Getting some early pressings of 60's vinyl that looks Mint or NM but get it on the turntable and it sounds scratched prob due to over playing or playing with a blunt needle for decades...

I don't know if to laugh or cry. Experience all this and yet I'm looking at upgrading my turntable!

Why do we do it to ourselves!

Think we need another thread called 'The best thing about vinyl is....' to provide some balance. And justification.

I experience all these too. However, still "hooked" as it connects me to my childhood in the 60's to 70's and this is pretty strong and not to be underestimated.

Regardless of the inconvenience and expense spinning records takes me to a "good" place in my mind, especially in the current situation.

I'm thankful for the fact that many old recordings are being remastered to achieve better SQ, notwithstanding the asking prices.

So i would soldier on regardless.

Paper inner sleeves.

Cost of shipping.

Damage in transit.

Wildly incorrect grading of used records.

Cost of hard and soft ware

However it is like a woman you know is trouble but you love her anyway.

For me? The early 90s when some bands ONLY put our CDs - or a similar single run of wax. Try getting an early Underground Lovers on vinyl - or Sade's Love Deluxe - or a copy of Wish by The Cure ($500+)

The other thing that annoys me are some RSD reissues. Back on to The Cure - I am a completist with those guys... but I'm not 16 and don't need a shite quality picture disc... I want something that plays well. Wild Mood Swings and Bloodflowers... both very ordinary audio quality.

I also hate that Kraftwerk disowned their first three albums so if you want them - it's illegal bootlegs or $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
