Congrats on your IRS Beta's and Apogee's. I never got to hear a pair of Beta's, but I've owned a pair of Renaissance 90's, and got to hear a pair of IRS-V's back in 1991 which were awesome. Cost no object, my dream speakers would be the Genesis Prime+ in rosewood. Large dipole-radiating linesource speakers re-create the live event more accurately than any other type of speaker i've heard (incl: horns).
Hi from the poor side of the tracks. I picked up a pair of AK5 in prefect condition for 3k. My 87 year old mother still uses the pair of KCBR purchased new at Superior Sound with lawn mowing and snow removal money I made in the early '70s. She uses them with a Mx110 and 240 power amp. I time aligned and eq'd the Ak5 with a Mini dsp 4x10 and the difference is huge. My other speakers are Infinity IRS Beta and Apogee Divas. I love the Khorns when my soul needs cleansing with some Pink Floyd Momenta
Enjoyed my time in the Yamaha room, including a good audition of the YH-5000 cans. Very impressed by the soundstage and depth. Thanks for going to the effort with the displays of the legacy equipment for the 70th anniversary. I reckon most of those components would still stand up against modern gear.
