All things Procol Harum this afternoon. The first four are Mobile Fidelity Silvers from ages ago. Flat transfers, lots of dynamic range.

Grand Hotel is the Friday Music reissue. A bit compressed, and not a patch on my first gen record, but feeling lazy, and tone arms are so heavy.

Billy.

I've seen that Edmonton Symphony LP in the racks many times, does the orchestral backing improve Procol's music at all?

Have been spinning the Jason Isbell on Tidal and the vocals sound a bit muted/muffled.

@scuzzii how does the vinyl sound?

Have a listen to Southeastern as well.

Stand out tracks are

Elephant (imo his best song)

@YCC -Procol Harum music does not need to be improved , but hearing it performed live has a special vertical hair factor.  Grab that rascal as soon as you can.

An afternoon with the best modern rock album ever produced.

This time, on blue vinyl.

The original album is close to perfection, and this remaster seems to elevate it further. As relevant as it ever was.

Just when I felt I had escaped the 60's Veedon Fleece arrived in the mail and now am dragged back to that other time and place the 70's

"you can take all the tea in China

put it in a big brown bag for me......

she's an angel of the first degree

she's as sweet as Tupelo Honey"

So hard to be a mucho man listening to this

sort of "gooey" feelings desperate to fall in love

sunny surf filled blissed out mortgage free days

and Van Morrison

Even the record cover with the country living pictures

heaven

long time since I just sat and listened to this record

need to put down the distractions

Any Van The Man fans?

I remember owning this record when it came out

but not its contents

never owned it on cd for some reason but even worse I thought I did

when I went to play it turned out to be Hard Nosed The Highway

listened to it on Spotify and then tried to buy it but seemed too expensive

from about $20 plus $us to hundreds for some reason

finally got one yesterday for a decent price out of the UK

believe it or not this is worth hundreds

it is that good

this is about the 10th time around and the sound of it just gets better

the last 2 songs are for me as good as it gets

limited instrumentation the sound of Morrison's voice and on the last song a flute(I think) drifting across to the right of the singer

close to perfect

2 glorious slabs of black vinyl. Truth is, this really is a beautiful thing!

Bach Trios on Tidal

R-10169541-1492809582-9343.jpeg.jpg

Nicolas Jaar - Sirens

I enjoyed this on first listen but on repeated plays its growing more familiar and much more enveloping.

But I'm still not rubbing off the cover to reveal the pic below.

What a great cover and what a great album!! My older sister had this album when I was a much younger lad and back then I hated the cover and the music depressed me.....I was going through those early teen hormonal woes at the time though. It's all different now!:thumb::)

My first exposure to Van was on the BFBS station broadcasting out of Singapore for the troops in the 70's, got hooked ever since, favourite being this LP,  with fantastic SQ. I think Van's records are mostly well-recorded.

Noticed this carved on my LP...STERLING RL..No wonder it's great!

Gotta look for his later LPs now.

Thoughts on pressing and SQ please Jon (and anybody else who happens to have this)?

Is there much difference to an original pressing?  Is it worth getting in addition to having the original album?

To warm up things a bit on a chilly winter's night, I've got Kevin Morby's new album spinning (via Tidal) in a room bathed with the light of valves.

Image result for kevin morby city music

A very pleasant listen indeed - no ear bleeding going on here. It's easy to spot the influences of Bob Dylan and Lou Reed - I can think of worse flavours to infuse into an album.

Ed Kuepper - Character Assassination -- decided give this old chestnut a spin ce soir, not sure why I needed to hear it but it sure sounds good to me now. Chock full of cracking tunes, in a more acoustic style. Arguably my fave from Mr Ed.

I have both (UK 1st to compare to), but too early to tell.

I need to A/B it and listen a little more - plus, the new one is a remaster, so not exactly apples and apples.

But happy to share what I find when I decide?
