Kristian Kristiansen Posted December 11, 2021 Posted December 11, 2021 (edited) Is it an album? A comp? An EP? Who cares - Japanese Whispers by The Cure (1983 Fiction Records) is proof of concept that Robert Smith wasn't ever going to be a one trick goth pony - after the holy trinity - Seventeen Seconds, Faith and Pornography - all flawless albums - he went and proved he could also do pop - which would be driven home two albums later with Head on the Door Between Japanese Whispers and HotD - he basically disbanded The Cure and was Siouxsie's guitarist- he also recorded The Top - a great Cure album but essentially a solo album - with session musos for touring - he recorded most of the album himself Anyway this is an important waypoint in probably my favourite band of all time Oh how i wish they would release Join the Dots on a 10xLP box set - just take my money Edited December 11, 2021 by Kristian Kristiansen 6
