The room looks superb. I hope you have many very happy years enjoying it.

The subwoofer placement in the diagonally opposite corners is interesting. How did you choose that? Did you try other places?

Thanks.

I had tried a few obvious front or matching locations with my previous subs and did some modelling with REW's simulator which showed that pretty much the smoothest response by far would be with them either in the middle of the room front wall and back wall, or diagonal corners. The front wall won't work for me since there's a heater there so I tried the diagonal corners and it worked out very well. They're both rolled off way below the frequency where we can tell directivity so it makes no difference when they are; only smoothing out response in as much of the room as possible matters.

Great looking room and system, I've always been curious to listen to those speakers.

You're welcome to come and have a listen by all means. The fact you're suddenly selling your TADs suggests you may use a more expensive approach to listening to them...

I just wanted it as close to the corner as possible. Modelling in REW didn't really show much effect at all of raising it that much

In wavelengths, that amount of distance change is => zero.

It seems almost redundant to say that this room looks really really good.

I'm no big fan of "room treatment".... but if I was, I would want it to look like that  :) 👍

Thanks. Funnily enough, the relatively cheap foam panels on the roof was what my wife liked the most. She wasn't expecting me to do the roof but said it looked really good.

Thanks. Those sim's are so good. Its still surprising that such different sim set ups work well. Does corner loading or mid room placement load up  standing wave nodes more?

Thanks guys, not sure what I did to deserve such praise, but I'll just keep ranting the way I always do :)

First "completed system" get together was today with my regular partners in crime. Good cheese, good wine, great company, great music, can't complain. Next GTG pencilled in for next Tuesday afternoon. Taking PMs from people who I've already promised a listen if anyone wants to attend, but I prefer keeping groups small. Rules of engagement: bring a red, pick some tracks you might want to listen to, or I'll just pick from my own demo tracks.

Try this track if you can find it. This is now a mandatory regular in my reference tracks and regular playlist.

I just gave this a listen. So good. Excellent, thanks for recommending.

Spent a great afternoon listening to Cons system. I’ve been fortunate enough to follow its development over the past few years, and after each visit ive been gobsmacked. I don’t really have any more superlatives to describe it. It was extraordinary last time I heard it - end game, that’s it, surely? - but the room treatment has lifted it very significantly.

Sure, Con has invested a fair amount into it, but money really can’t buy you love or guarantee a great sound. It’s the thought, the care, the deliberation which he’s put into it and which is the key to such brilliant sound quality.
fortunately the music is good, as well.
Absolutely bloody fantastic.

There are posts and threads on this forum that can cause space and time to stand still for me.

This thread, specifically Con's journey, framed by those beautiful images, and complimented by his participation and contribution to this community is an example of where space and time has stood still in the best possible way.

Yes, the listening room looks amazing, and no doubt sounds absolutely incredible. Personally, what's even more inspiring is admiring Con's journey from a distance.

Well done mate. I can only imagine how satisfying it must feel (and sound like!) Enjoy in good health! :)

Was looking to buy some spare Sovtek regulator valves since they're the first thing to go in my equipment and I know Russian valves are now basically not coming, but this price is ridiculous.

Talk about price gouging. Since I'm only using them as regulator valves looks like I'm going to have to wait till they absolutely fail, and then easily use just about any brand and just change them more frequently after that.

Have to echo Russ's comments.  :thumb:

What was surprising to me was how Con's recent room treatment has lowered the noise floor in the room so amazingly!  When the music stops ... there is just blackness.  This enables a much increased resolution - diction in songs is exquisite.

And btw - for all those folk who are DBT fanbois ... enough good red wine was consumed to make this a 'QBT'!

Aah, mate - you need to make sure before you upgrade to the SE750s ... that they use ss regulation!

I found the last supplier who still had stock not ripping people off and ordered some spares, but if this continues for a long time, it's bound to have long-lasting repercussions on the valve audio market.

I'm gonna miss the old @Ittakuthread, full of genuine hifi wisdom, but it does makes sense to start afresh after changing your system so comprehensively.

Anyway, I was greatly privileged to hear this system in a very-close-to-complete earlier phase and find it a little hard to imagine that much more improvement is available, but I always try to keep an open mind🙂

Yeah, a linear regulator valve design is just continuously chewing up those electron emissions.    To be honest, this isone application where I would not design using valves.

It is definitely very wasteful, and in no way do I believe they're beneficial to the sound in that location. I think ARC did it as a backlash to the period where they were doing increasingly more solid state stuff when they were owned by the larger conglomerate (since that stuff was also increasingly crap.) The only advantage I can see is that the voltage is actually regulated versus many other power amps that don't do that. That said, the waste of energy from the regulator still pales in significance to the efficiency of so many power tubes being run almost entirely class A.

Their newer power amp designs have since dropped the valve regulation, which should say a lot. Will be curious to see if they drop it in their preamps too, whenever they get a major revamp.

A lot less current involved, but still, yeah

Surprisingly few takers for a get together next week? Okay, if anyone else is interested in a listen next Tuesday afternoon, PM me.

Maybe related to Easter?

I will PM you as I am interested in a visit at some point if that is ok?
