Vinyl - Currently Spinning

I don't know Kay Starr, but I picked up a Ruby Starr LP from the big car boot sale in Newcastle, last weeknd for a dolla [emoji4]
It's in good condition too, and plays very well.
Ruby Starr - Smokey Places - 1977 (not my pic, just a grab from the WWW)

A prophetic name too, seeing as she died from lung cancer at the age of 45 :( Shame really, I think she would have gone on to better things.

Testing and fine tuning a Thorens TD147

Has all upgrades as factory standard similar to a TD160 super with auto lift at the end on the record

Will decide if I will build a nice timber plinth

The new Thorens TD147 is now serviced and all adjustments made

Decided to play it’s first record by blind selection

The selection is

Bill Bruford

The Bruford Tapes

I will spin a few more records tomorrow for some critical listening

Just picked this one up today. I've had this on the silver disc for years and the vinyl pressing on 180gm 3lp set absolutely blows the cd away. Might not be everyones cup of bonox but is a fantastic pressing.

Moving on from the excess folksiness of Joni Mitchell and her album Blue to the excesses of  prog rock with Emerson, Lake and Palmer and the album Pictures at the Exhibition.

I picked this album up a couple of months ago and glad I did

A conceptual double album is beautifully put together that covers life from birth to grave

Very underrated release from a great artist that I first heard in the early 70s

Artist - Dan Fogleberg

Title - The Innocent Age

Awaiting me when I arrived home from work yesterday.... Nek minut, it’s all go!..

I’m no reviewer but first impression is quite a commercial album. While some don’t like bands to head down that commercial path, I don’t mind one bit. They’re simply chasing dollars to support what they truly want to produce.

Listened to this for the first time today, I think it is excellent.

Bands and musicians evolve in different ways over many years, most of the album is prog at its best with a modern twist, I can’t wait to spin it again tomorrow.

Couple of discoveries. Firstly a band that was around in the 70s and, although I’d heard of them, never really heard their music. Needless to say I’m a fan now. This MoFi reissue sounds superb. IMG_0068.jpg

Secondly Daniel Cavanagh, guitarist from Doom band Anathema, has crafted a beautiful record. First track, Frankenstein is a haunting, moving song that’s worth the price of admission alone. Very happy with this one. IMG_0037.jpg

Cheers, M

James Gang, the early days of Joe Walsh. If you get the chance, check out a movie they stared in called Zachariah. It's a rock musical western. Cool story too.

Based on Herman Hesse's Siddhartha. ;)

Hesse's drug trip that appealed to a 50's/60's very early 70's audience and it was an argument with and oddly against his contemporary Thomas Mann. They shared a lot together. such times, such times.

Back in my time we surfers were called Lemons due to the bleached hair most had

However I was more into body and boogy board surfing

What a great soundtrack

Brings back lots of memories
