  1. Hey Guys, I just picked up some Pioneer DSS-9's on a whim with little prior reading. They seem to be in very good condition, and the sound absolutely blows my B & W 683s2's out of the water. Is there much love for vintage pioneer over here on SNA? The sound, clarity, imaging, bass.... These may be end-game speakers... Anyone else heard these before? Anyone else have some, or other vintage pioneer stuff? Chime in! Ben
  2. Further information: Looking to sell these JBL L112 speakers to a passionate collector who appreciates the historical value of it. You rarely find this model in the market for sale and eBay is 2k plus. The JBL L112 is an improved version over the famous L100 from the brand. Not in a rush to sell, low ballers will be ignored. The physical condition is a 6/10, due to age but I have opened up the crossovers recently to change a spoilt resistor. That is why the labels have been torn out as I need to remove the volume pots. The labels are still kept and can be glued back. See images for before it was torn out and after. One of the mid range cones is dented but sound not affected. A great all rounder speaker that rocks the house with any genre of music. Will throw in a pair of free third party midrange drivers with this purchase for you to experiment with the sound signature. Selling them as I like to change speakers around and these are too heavy for me to move. Please note that each side is 25kg and you need to ask a friend to help you carry down 5 floors, there is no lift in my house. The speaker stands are not included and are a custom pine wood build. Top up $100 for stands. Collection near Lavender area. Contact 9-seven-8-8-zero-two-3-0. Thank you. 6. hello. I have this KENWOOD mini component, HM-331. It is in excellent and very good condition. A model that is almost impossible to find in good conditions, some systems are very hard to repair / to find pieces for it, some other retro devices or vintage aren't hard to repair, some others are really impossible even for a service. This Kenwood is almost impossible to repair, being so: should I use it just for a little? should I store it inside a showcase with glass doors like a museum piece? can I use it more often? I think how hard or impossible it would be for repair if it fails, that's why I think that. My own answer (based in a friend's opinion) could be: if you have had a new device and you've been using it with care, there is no reason to don't keep on doing it so. but still I think in the rare ancient relic Maybe you have some device, system or component that you do care so much or have it like a trophy in your showcase, or maybe you enjoy your 70' amplifier using it with Netflix. If you have opinions, notes, comments, thank you !

  13. Item: Audiosound Laboratories Motet 8015 Floor Standing Speakers Location: Perth Price: 295 Item Condition: 8/10 Reason for selling: Too many speakers! Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info: For sale is a pair of very hard to find and highly sought after Australian built ASL speakers that won an Australian Design Award in 1991. Because they are so honest, transparent and uncoloured they were the ABC's choice of studio monitor for several years. Jazz musician James Morrison only uses ASL monitors in his studio. They are a three-speaker, symmetrical two-way design with 18dB/Octave crossover and wide dispersion treble unit. They are 6 Ohm speakers rated at 10 – 130 watts RMS with a frequency response of 40 – 18kHz and 90 dB sensitivity. The drivers were built specifically to Ron Cooper's (ASL founder) specifications and he hand built the crossovers using the very best components at the time. The speakers work flawlessly. The cabinets are in really good condition for their age and there no holes or tears on the cloth covers/grills or broken lugs. One of the badges is missing but I have ordered some new ones. REVIEWS "The Motet 8015's very neutral and tonally balanced sound quality lets the music do the talking...... In this, it must be said that the 8015's certainly show their "ABC monitor" heritage." Australian Hi-Fi magazine. Pictures:
  14. Hello everybody! I currently own a beautiful, aging Dual 1228 turntable, that I won from an eBay auction about 2 years ago. I had the turntable serviced via a gentleman in Melbourne who brought her back up to speed immediately after I purchased it. (Fixed a few issues, like the tonearm not lifting, etc.) Although she runs pretty much flawlessly now (about 95% of the time) I'd really like someone to service her properly who has worked with Dual turntables before and get her up to a like-new condition. She only has a few minor issues, such as a few squeaks here and there, and an odd problem of running on 45 RPM speed, the auto-cue to the edge of the platter doesn't work, so you have to manually cue it up. (Not a major issue.) I'm not technically savvy when it comes to servicing and repairing turntables and I was wondering if anyone here knows of a Dual "Specialist" located in Melbourne where I can drop her and replace any worn parts if need be, and get her operating to a like-new condition again? I would really like to do a complete tonearm re-wire at some point with some Litz wire, but I have absolutely no faith in my skills to achieve such an exercise. Would anyone recommend somebody that could do a complete service and a tonearm re-wire at a later point, and the possible costs involved? I really love my Dual turntable, and I'm also going to get somebody from the states to build a custom solid wood plinth for her too, replacing her worn veneer chipboard. Any help would be greatly appreciated, Thank you!
  15. Item: Pioneer SX-5590 a.k.a. SX-1250 Location: Mooroolbark Price: $1750 $1500 Item Condition: used 7/10 Reason for selling: not being used Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info: decided to move on my Pioneer SX-5590. Exactly the same as the SX-1250 but with the black faceplate and box. Cosmetically amp would be a 7/10 with a few marks here and there. Please refer to photos for better description. Everything works as it should with all lights working. Amp is in original condition (other than the volume knob) and still sounds very strong. I have been using it with my Pioneer DSS-7 speakers and the volume doesn't go past 4 out of 10 Happy to demo for those interested and also have the facility to package if needed. Amp weights about 30kg shipping would be around $70-$90 Aust wide Crisp Pictures:
  16. Item: Sennheiser HD414 Headphones w/original box, receipt and guarantee! (Guarantee has expired ;) Location: Inner West SYD Price: $250 NEG Item Condition: Used Reason for selling: Liquidating treasures Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info: These vintage cans are in very good condition considering they were purchased in 1974! Someone prior to me acquiring them replaced the foam ear pads and maybe the cable (not sure, it could well be original too), but other than that they're in original condition. As a bonus they come in the original, very 70's, very German box with sales receipt and guarantee. I bought them out of curiosity as I wanted to compare the the SQ to my more modern headphones (and I love how they look!), but I've had my fun, now it's someone else's turn. I've priced based on what I paid and have seen other pairs sell for, although none had the original box etc; however I am open to reasonable offers. Low-ballers will be ignored. I kinda wanna keep them, but they're not getting used and I have my eye on some other goodies, so have decided to turn some treasures into cash. Happy to post at buyers expense - around $17 to the mainland I'd say. Pictures:

  18. With the rise rise, and rise of computer audio I decided it was time to return to headphone listening. I'd given up 3 odd years ago, having exhausted all of my CDs and my old and humble Sennheiser HD590s slowly wearing out. Well I've rejoined this club and boy it's good to be back. The HD590s went walkabout which I was initially dismayed about. No biggie - cue eBay. I'm now the proud owner of some HD560 Ovation IIs from 1993/94. Mint condition, the previous owner had the pads replaced. And they comprehensively tear strips off my previous pair. Dare I say it these (with appropriate amplification) could easily keep pace with anything costing up to 500 bucks today. They are gorgeously neutral, just letting the music waft through. The soundstage is typical Sennheiser, deep and wide. I don't know how else to describe the sound without being overly analytical with my language, because the 560s are anything but. Warm but not lush or sticky, incredibly detailed without taking a surgeons scalpel to the recording, low bass extension without boom or thump? If I had to summarise, take your favourite recording that you know inside out back to front. Give it the longest most thorough intricate buff and polish you thought possible. Then sit back and enjoy You just can't put a stereotype on the sonic signature, because there just isn't one. In a word: linear If there's a caveat, they need a lot of juice.... I didn't think 300ohms would prove tricky to drive, although my old pair were less than half that at 120. They're powered by an Audioquest Dragonfly V1.2, fed into a Perreaux SXH-1 Sillhouette class A. Considering at some point upping the DAC to a red as the voltage is much higher. Oh, and the source (before I hook them back up to my main Rotel setup) is Tidal HiFi Masters. At the moment however - I is pig in detritus
  19. *Final Price Drop* Need funds for more toys! Now $600 posted anywhere in Aus. Vintage Sony TA-1150 (1973) This amp has developed a sturdy reputation since its release in 1973. The model that everyone wants! Aptly nicknamed the ‘Mac Killer’ in its day, as it was known to hold its own against the main competitor at the time; McIntosh. Some even rate it higher than the Macs. If you are familiar with this amp, then you will be aware of its amazing phono stage, and it truly does bring out the very best in vinyl records. It has an incredibly natural, brilliant, and wide soundstage, with sweet sweet highs and surprisingly punchy lows and well rounded mids. Quite a ‘modern’ sound for a vintage amp. It has a speaker changeover switch, which allows for the use of two pairs of speakers interchangeably. Includes the original box from 1973, which is quite rare with these older units, and adds to that nostalgic value. - 30w p/ch @ 8ohms (handles 4ohms) - 0.1% Harmonic Distortion - 2 Power supplies, to all stages. - Push button input selector - Turnover & rolloff for bass / treble - Dimensions: 400x149x316 - Weighs 8.3kg Please send me a message if you are interested. I am happy for you to come and have a listen / audition the unit for serious buyers, however let me know asap, as I don’t imagine this will last too long. Postage included in price. Cheers
  20. Further information: Altec 605b 15 inch dual concentric classic speakers in large boxes built by cabinet maker. Some scratches to paintwork but still present well. One driver has a very slight repair(see pic). I imported these from the U.S. separately and are hard to find in Australia. Comes with the n-1600 crossovers. They can come with stands to raise them 25 cm. Pictured but not included in this sale are GPA crossovers that can be purchased for $300 extra. Pick up essential unless you want the drivers only and then I would consider posting. Impressive sound .

  23. Item: Rare Audio Alchemy DDS-2 CD Transport NO Remote Control and Audio Alchemy Digital Transmission Interface Location: Melbourne Price: $550 for the transport and $170 for the DTI Item Condition: Good to great, see below. Reason for selling: Surplus, extra toys Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal + fee Extra Info: So as promised here I have up for sale my second rare Audio Alchemy DDS-2 transport but without the original remote control. I am selling another identical unit with its original remote control here: https://www.stereo.net.au/forums/topic/234264-fs-audio-alchemy-dds-2-cd-transport-wremote-control/. Like my other DDS-2 transport, It has recently been serviced as well as some modifications done to the chassis (dampening), EMI/RFI filter board installed to power supply etc and a fix for a mechanical design flaw present on all stock DDS 2 players which can damage the transport cd draw over time. This one has had some surgery performed on it by my tech, it was purchased from another seller who did tamper with it and could not fix it, thus leaving it in complicated mess. The repairs involved rewinding specific secondary windings of original transformer, re-laminated with varnish epoxy, a hard to source digital chipset replacement, a new 16.933mhz oscillator clock and a new laser both sourced from Japan. The other service includes replacement of all capacitors (original ones were no good), diodes in the digital power supply section to ultra fast recovery types, transport mechanism check up (laser, micro-switch, motor's, spindle, belts, pulley's and gears lubricated where needed) etc. These transports use the rare and reliable Sanyo transport using the SF-90/P1 laser mechanism which is found in the high end CEC TL-XX series transports and sound fantastic as an overall spinner, can read original CD's and CD-R/RW's with ease. Superb bass handling, treble control and soundstage impression to the listener. Connections wise, only SPDIF/coaxial out. Due to its vintage there are some minor nicks on chassis and casing, some usual wear and tear but overall a conservative 7.5/10 condition, face plate itself is practically clean but there is some minor knocks to the corners of the faceplate which has been touched up with nail polish by my tech. I have two of these units, this one has an extensive service and does not come with the remote control, whilst the other does and has a general service/health checkup. I also have a revamped Digital Transmission Interface with its original 120v wallwart to go with and match with these players, the Digital Transmission Interface or "DTI" is designed to lower jitter and sundry noise exhibited by the player (or whatever interface) it is plugged into. Great sounding combination for sure. I rate it a conservative 8/10 condition (needs a wipe down) with a minor nick to one of the corners. Has audiophile anti-vibration cones installed. PS, both units have screen protectors cut out for the displays, not perfect as you can see some bubbles but I like to take care of my things. Cheers, Pictures:
