The new "Listening Room"

Featured Replies

Ouch! I absolutely hate shifting vinyl around. We moved house last year and unfortunately the removalist put 5 big boxes of LPs in the attic and left all the CDs downstairs. As the attic is accessed from the second floor of the new house I felt no need to haul the LPs down to the ground floor again, let alone carry 3000 odd CDs up 6 flights of stairs. I'll get around to it someday...... :sarc:

As you can see - total chaos, which will take a couple of weeks to resolve (ie. get the system set up) ... but at least the LPs are in place.  Although, as you can see ... there are 3 boxes of LP12 too many (for the storage space available. :( ).  So, over the next few months, I will have to rigorously cull LPs and music that I never ever listen to!

Looks less chaotic than my room.

Let me know if you are culling any of those boxed Bach Cantatas, I have quite a few but not all. You might be able to close a few gaps for me.

Here's the pic taken at today's site meeting:

The benchtop is supported by the steel triangular supports (plus end supports) and the spaces at each end of the LP storage bins are for subs.

That looks sweet mate!!! Love the storage!!

Well they do occupy a lot of space and I am betting that they are on low rotation ;)

You might be able to fit all of your LPs in if you ditched the outer plastic sleeves.

Looking nice so far Andy now where are those Maggies :) has DJB kidnapped them lol

Actually, that stash of about 10 boxes together ... I have never listened to, as I haven't had the time to clean them!  (I bought them at a deceased estate sale about 10 years ago! :( )  In fact, most of the LPs in that cupboard with the bar-fridge are similarly uncleaned and unheard! :(  That is why finishing off my 6-LPs-at-a-time ultrasonic cleaner is a high priority, once my hifi is set up.  :)

I certainly do have a number of LPs on low rotation ... but there are others which I never play!

All the LPs with outer plastic sleeves are ones which I haven't cleaned yet.

A further update, with the couch installed (it had to be taken apart by some furniture upholsterers - and then re-assembled - in order to get it through the doorway! :( )

Sorry that the pic is so dark - there was too much light coming through the bi-fold doors.

And that's an LP12 platter on the carpet!

must say I thought the room was larger from earlier photos.

Those Bach Cantatas are no good anyway, just move them on ;)

Deceased estates are a great source of music.

Yes, unfortunately it is severely constrained due to building regs.   :(  But that is a big couch!

It's a bit longer than the room I've had for my hifi while renting for 3 1/2 years (waiting for this place to be built) - and that 'worked' OK.  Although this new room will be a severe step down from the awesome 8x5.1m listening room I had for over 20 years, at our last place. :(

As always ... compromise rules!

Nice orange slice chairs Andy. We have one, deceptively comfy

Yes, indeed, Andy. Looking fantastico! Any particular carpet / underlay? What's that overhead ceiling fan? Chill on the record cleaning - none of my 800-odd had ever been cleaned, until very recently: I've now only got 760 to do!! BTW, that Blade Runner still unclaimed? I'll collect when we've finished our womens weekly world tour ...

I will put it aside, Jim (sealed BTW). :thumb:

The fan is a Beacon Lighting 'special' - we thought they are great looking.

Where are the speakers going?   In front of the angled wall and LP's?

Seems like way too many chairs for the room.  After all 99% of the time its just you sitting there  :)

98% Bertie and 1 come in sometimes

Awesome listening room brother well done, now start cleaning that superb vinyl collection

Yes, Maggies in front of the LPs.

Certainly 90% of the time it will be just me sitting there but:

  • a few % there will be fellow SNA hifi-nuts listening
  • a few % will be family gatherings, and
  • a smaller % will be my wife's book club.

Unfortunately it is not a 'man-cave'.  :(

Bertie (the schnoodle) will rarely be allowed in!

Thank you, Deano.  Yes, vinyl cleaning is high on the priority list! :D

Andy

Doesn't take long to fill up that room Andy.

see you

Duc

Approx. how many records there Andy?
