Bassekou Kouate & Ngoni Ba - Jama Ko (2013/2LP)

Bassekou Kouyate is an established and esteemed Malian ngoni (lute) shredder. Not being up on these things I only half noticed him on the 2010 Afrocubism set before properly registering him with this album.

Yes, certainly looks like an interesting lineup.

There are quite a few names I'm not familiar with, but that's the great thing about Womadelaide, there is always something new to discover.

I'm very keen to see The Gloaming, and Charlie Musselwhite.

Will be good to see Youssou N'Dour again, he was at the very first Womadelaide way back in 1992 (was it really that long ago?)

I will have to check out some of the others.

Hi emesbee.I'm familiar with just over half of these, which is a good thing.I always get blown away by an unfamiliar act or two.Fanfare Ciocarlia will be good.Similar to Taraf de Haidouks.Criolo's a hip hop star in Brazil.Pianist Abdullah Ibrahim is their jazz offering.I saw him several years ago at Womad, playing solo.It should be a good act with a quartet this time. I'd be happy with this lineup alone, but we've still got the last batch to be announced later on.Womadelaide no. 18 is definitely on the cards for this little buzzard :)

I don't know Abdullah Ibrahim well but I just got Dollar Brand's live performance at Montreux of some of his compositions — its really very good. I don't want to miss this.

Even more exotic and a less delicious pleasure than Gris Gris or Gumbo, so this thread is possibly the best place for it.  Julian Cope is typically tangential and inspirational in his review.
