When I was in Singapore in '06, I saw a pair of those in a shop in The Adelphi for $SG4000 - but getting them home and having newly met Mrs CE, I demurred.

 

Never got the opportunity again.

    The upgraded Apogee's are amazing speakers, but the irony is their dipolar figure 8 radiation pattern reduces room nodes, but places higher demands on the room making them not as room-friendly as cone/dome speakers.

    Well, what else are they going to do all during the winter? I remember a piece by Stig Eric Tangren (spelling?), and I'm not sure which Nordic country he was from, about how he used to save up stuff in his basement for the winter and then spend 4 months building whatever he felt like!

    Regardless it’s ugly and may sound no better than a good two way.

    Making speakers not look like speakers can be a thing. 🙂  Not mine I add.

    I wonder if they have cats,  the felt sides look attractive  for a paw stretch.

    no one’s more bored of boring-looking speakers than me. The problem here, as I see it, is that it’s fkn hideous 🙂

    Love the idea of a front- and back-loaded horn using a single driver. Not sure of the execution of this though - too much ringing, maybe? The problem I had was with balancing the front and rear enclosures so that you wouldn't overdrive the driver. So I gave it up while it was still on paper (virtual paper, anyway).

    Arabella met a sad fait. I guy who bought four of my power amps and one of my preamps pulled the amp apart and through away the chopping brd. The brds. only had a very limited run here and haven’t been available for a very long time. Worst part was he only throughout the brd. the week before I was back in his place. 
     

    If you have never heard a 6EM7 based amp you are really missing something. Think a 6SL7 and a 45 in the one bottle. I built three amps using that tube only and everyone sounded excellent especially Abstinence with Sophie mesh plate rec. tube. I have both the tubes so who knows, 6EM7 based amp number four?
