Juicester
I think we might have to drop in on him one night and have a word in his shell-like.The only thing is one would feel guilty about being unable to bring along any music half as weird as what he's used to listening to....
houdinifangs
Having sold off most of my equipment last year to fund an overseas trip I had decided to settle with some pretty modest gear and focus on other things. But then I got the itch; maybe from looking too often in the classifieds, or just cause I missed having a bigger sound. Funds were still modest so DIY was an option so I got a NAKSA with the intent of building some 3-way classics. However, the more I went through the logistics and costs of DIY things just didn’t add up. I’ve had a thing for fat and stout large monitors for a while and when a pair of JBL L65’s popped up and it was love at first sight. The DIY concept was blown so why not do the vintage thing just for kicks? Sold off the NAKSA and picked up a lovely old Luxman L-510 that hit the spot with its woody sides and blue LED. I’ve had the Thorens TD 321 for a while, now with a Shelter 201 cart and there’s Jungson CDP hiding under the cabinet that I found on the side of the road. The Luxman has a decent phono so I sold off my trusty PS Audio and was able to keep everything nice and tidy. The Luxman also has some nifty tone controls that I can toggle on and off for those dodgy recordings that need a little lift. Overall the sound is E-X-P-A-N-S-I-V-E with plenty of smooth highs and some pretty impressive bass. So I’m a pretty happy camper at the moment and finding it hard to go to bed at a decent time without listening to just on more record.

The speakers are from the 70's though. The amp is a Japanese model - power supply is a step-down transformer. Has 2 out-puts should a nice Japanese DD turntable pop up.... Ian McP
I suspected as much, well, I suppose you get extra isolation from the mains, crazy Japanese 100VAC, the only country I know of at that voltage. Some nice brand spanking new 100VAC goodies http://www.audiocubes2.com or 2ndh http://www.hifido.co.jp/docs/companye.html Mecca for JBL in Japan, Kenrick Sound http://jbl43.com like a pair of these? regards Ian
