Audiobugged Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 Looks amazing and bet it sounds pretty darn good. Would be most useful I imagine to provide a (rough) location on whereabouts this is AB
Stump Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 Well set up , hard to imagine it sounding better then the Thiel system!! Catch you soon.....
Audiobugged Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 Hmm... let's see 4 posts already, 1 from each capital city. We seem to be missing Brisbane... Sweepstakes anyone?
cableconnoisseur Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 Very nice indeed. Those are serious speaker cables you've got there........... I wonder if anybody else on SNA has a pricier pair.........
Guest Willow Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 (edited) Great looking system there darthlaker , esp like the look of the equipment rack , you will have to excuse my ignorance but " Ayre myrtle wood blocks under interconnect & power cables to keep them raised above the floor ". Could you clarify the reasoning on this ? Edited June 7, 2010 by Willow
darthlaker Posted June 7, 2010 Author Posted June 7, 2010 Thanks guys for your kind comments. The wood blocks are a cheap tweak I read about from Charles Hansen who is the CEO of Ayre Acoustics. It's more relevant to people with carpeted floor. You can use wooden blocks from a game called Jenga (Target etc will sell it and it's pretty cheap). Raise all speaker, power and interconnect cables from the floor, every foot or though. See if it makes a difference! The Ayre blocks under components also change the sound. Who knows why! 2
nfi42 Posted June 8, 2010 Posted June 8, 2010 I to have the myrtle wood blocks (actually the Cardas ones which are way cheaper than the Ayre ones) and imo they work!!! Love the look of your system and would liove to have a listen, where are you based?

Guest JohnA Posted June 8, 2010 Posted June 8, 2010 looks great and bet it sounds just as good also congrats on a fine system
MarkH Posted June 8, 2010 Posted June 8, 2010 I like those stands that the monoblock amps are on, what are they perspex? glass?
darthlaker Posted June 8, 2010 Author Posted June 8, 2010 Hi MarkH, Thanks. The amps are actually on Ayre myrtle wooden blocks and they are on the amp stand. The amp stand is custom made to size and is acrylic with heavy duty conical footers. Available from USA. They also make some pretty snazzy illuminated acrylic stands as well if that's your thing.... Jehuty Posted June 8, 2010 Posted June 8, 2010 Looks very good and what a generous invitation, if only you were in Sydney...
Frizzo Posted June 8, 2010 Posted June 8, 2010 Hey mate, Nice system. I like the dual spider racks. I am sorry to confess that the first thing I thought was that your cabling was rather neat. I am upgrading my system and it is a disaster. Thanks for the share!
Jenski Posted June 8, 2010 Posted June 8, 2010 Awesome system. Would love to hear those speakers one day.
darthlaker Posted June 8, 2010 Author Posted June 8, 2010 Thanks Frizzo and to the previous compliments posted..... Cabling can be a pain. Keep them off the floor and do not let interconnects and power cables touch. Insert a Jenga/Ayre wooden block inbetween them if there is no other way..... Cheers
Guest guru Posted June 8, 2010 Posted June 8, 2010 Very nice indeed. Those are serious speaker cables you've got there........... I wonder if anybody else on SNA has a pricier pair......... evening cc, there is a pair over on audiogon at the moment, 4" pair $1900 US. if you're quick, Nigel may be on to them already though. cheers ,g.
darthlaker Posted July 7, 2010 Author Posted July 7, 2010 Sorry, forgot to mention that I am located in Adelaide. If anyone wants to have a listen then please PM me.
metal beat Posted July 7, 2010 Posted July 7, 2010 Very nice system Darth, I was close to buying a pair of Vandersteen 5's a while back. All you need now is a nice turntable and you will be in heaven
darthlaker Posted July 7, 2010 Author Posted July 7, 2010 Thanks turntable. The Vandy's are fantastic and I would love to hear the model 7's....... Have you heard the 5A's before? Ah, vinyl is amazing but not my bag. One pop, crackle and scrape and my mind goes crazy. I reach beyond vinyl heaven on quite a few SACD's so I do still get to heaven on occasions! 1
Paul Spencer Posted July 7, 2010 Posted July 7, 2010 A fine system. You can enter your location in your profile settings. Good idea to at least have your city there.
metal beat Posted July 7, 2010 Posted July 7, 2010 have I heard the 5A's? No, unfortunately not the 7's are interesting, a very similar size and the same bass system, the mids and treble must be a lot better to justify the price increase. Of course the cabinet is now a lot more expensive
darthlaker Posted July 7, 2010 Author Posted July 7, 2010 turntable, if you ever get down my neck of the woods please give me a holler..... the 7's are an interesting beast......will have to have a listen next time i get to the states......
