Hi Alebonau,

I picked up both "good Stuff" and the Sprit & the blues “album yesterday. The recording is superb. Yes, on track 8, “I want Jesus to walk with me†depth and the image is breath taking. Thank you for recommending.

Cheers,

Field

I`m playing as I dont have to worry about how loud it is at the moment Lou Reed ( Rock n Roll Animal ) I used to love this one in my early days, I s any one familuar with this Album, and do you know who the guitarists are on this Album, This was my favourite Live album ever :(

G'day,

Arvo Pärt - Alina, on ECM.

A very minimal, yet haunting, work for piano and strings. Not for the ADD generation, however, as it is basically two pieces repeated a number of times, with slight variations in theme and in how it is scored. Check the reviews and sound samples on Amazon for more info.

Highly recommended.

came across this disc

http://shop.abc.net.au/browse/product.asp?productid=371002

Kate Cebrano Live with WASO(West australian Symfony Orchestra)

Caught my attention as been to a WASO concert with Tex perkins and really enjoyed that one and wondered what this was like.

Some nice tunes. Some interestig renditions by Kate on some of them. Like the live feel to it. Well recorded and soudns good unlike what you get with many supposed Live concerts which sound pox on disc.

only problem...just like the tex perkins waso concert it leaves you wanting for more ! oh well will jsut have to play it again then hehehe

I'm going through some of my oldies this weekend.

Today I've been playing the 'Mink Deville collection' and the best of the 'Lovin spoonful'

I've had a lot of new music to listen to lately courtesy of some freindly forum members from AVL which has been great, but I have a new Cd player and am wading through my own cd collection, rediscovering the sounds that I love.

I don't see much mention of Bill Frisell on this ( or other Oz forums) - I've just been listening to his CD with Ron Carter and Paul Motian - he just has to be at once the most musical and infuriating guitarist around. The recording quality is great, his ideas are innovative and he bends where it shouldn't be possible , but it all comes out musical - try him also on Nashville or the Willies - he pops up on many hip (female) vocalists CDs also - a real treat for jazz - fusion - country- rock guitar lovers!

Cheers

Mick

I think I've got a Frisell CD lurking around somewhere -- a live recording called East/West. And of course Frisell pops up as a guest on a few David Sylvian CDs as well.

Regarding jazz geetarists, I guess I'm more partial to Grant Green and Wes Montgomery, and more recently John Scofield.

Idle moments (GG) and full house(Wes) are among my all time favourites but both players are no longer extant (See Grumpy's thoughts on classical composers- you can still listen to them though!)- along with Jim Hall/Bill Evans' Undercurrent - and Kenny Burrell's 'I'm a fool to want you' (I'm probably the only forum member old enough to have heard Arch McKirdie(?)'s late night ABC jazz pgm in the sixties which used that as its theme).

Of the newer breed I like Larry Carlton, John Scofield (tho he's a bit out of tune on one DVD I've got), Lee Ritenour and Philip Wilson - heard to good effect with Diana Krall.

Cheers

Agreed.

Grant Green and Kenny Burrell are my favourites too. Kenny Burrell's "Midnight Blue" made my list of "Ten Desert Island Disks". Simply an awesome album.

Check out James Sherlock for a local current Jazz Guitarist.

A great album - and I read somewhere that Van the Man was inspired by the harmonies in Midnight Blue in writing Moondance - check out the changes in both...

In the meantime I'll just go and have a listen to James Sherlock.

Oops - forgot Larry Coryell - his 'Major Jazz Minor Blues' is a classic - he's also available on some of the Chesky hi quality recordings

Was going to suggest this album for Al but once I read the reviews I had to laugh. Someone criticises the Hoff for poor musical talent that the "sophisticated American audience" will find it too cheesy... lol. LIsten to half the shite they release!

I'm currently listening to Alias, Autechre, Peng Zhao and Zero7.

Strewth -- I haven't listened to Autechre since they started disappearing up their own back passage around '98 or so, with increasingly stochastic Metal Machine Music-esque releases with song titles that had been completely disemvowelled. I think Tri Repetae++ was their last CD that I liked. I've got an Autechre CD here in the office, with a 10min track in which each bar has a unique drum pattern (to protest against some silly British law against "repetitive beats"). Hang on a mo' while I put it on and verify if that's really the case ...

My favourite CD from Autechre would have to be Amber, and favourite track would be Yulquen.

It's old, it's scratched, it pops, but it is SOOO! COOL

G'day,

Listening to a CD at work today -- This Binary Universe by BT, of Monster soundtrack fame, and before that an ill-advised foray into treacly doof-doof-progressive-house. But holy flirking schnitt! This CD is just beaut. Some choice melodies and wonderful ear-candy here, with sounds whizzing about, some in a crunchy microtonal way and others in a more classic electronic style.

To quote from the Wikipedia entry:

Often cited in reviews and interviews with the artist himself, this album makes extensive usage of a technique called circuit bending, often intentionally miswiring and short-circuiting keyboards, children's toys, and even furbys to achieve a completely random sequence of sounds that is then time-corrected to keep the rhythm and beat of the song. [/b]

Apparently this release comes with a DTS 5.1 mix, which is how it was meant to be heard. I've not heard it (and don't have the 5.1 setup anyway), but I can imagine that it sounds double-plus beaut.

For lovers of Kraftwerk, or other 5.1 mixes like Jean-Michel Jarre's Aero.

I dont play vynal that often myself its been a while

Hmm not familuar with the Double R&R album. I have the Double White Album.

Really enjoying "Snow Patrol - Eyes Open" cd at the moment. Heard one of their tracks at the end of Grey's Anatomy (track is called Chasing Cars) and was instantly hooked. Downloaded the album and I can honestly say that I love 90% of the tracks and the other 10% are still good. So bought the cd yesterday and it's going to be replayed quite often over the coming weeks  It's an indie rock band and some people have liken them to Coldplay ...

I know there are a few Classical afficiandos in this forum so the following might be of interest to them .. The Australian Chamber Orchestra performing at the Opera House videos. Enjoy :)

Fuzzy,

If you like their current album checkout their release from 2004, bloody brilliant.

Just picked up OK GO's new album, 13 short fun rock songs packed into 41 minutes. Great stuff, their now famous Treadmill music clip for the song Here we Go is a good indicator of the rest of this high quality album.

Also bought the Yeah Yeah Yeahs new album, some flashes of billiance on this one incuding "Gold Lion" which is just a sublime song to my ears.

The Finn brothers new album has also copped a couple of spins, excellent as always from them. After the first listen l thought good but a little unadventurous but it has grown on me to the point where l dont get that feeling when listening.

Cheers

A while back there was a beaut Snow Patrol track called "Run", that got flogged a bit on JJJ. Although the CD it was from didn't scale the same heights as that particular track IMHO.

And I did hear and grudgingly approve of that new toon "Chasing Cars" when I heard it blaring out of the speakers when The Bride was watching the aforementioned textbook-titled TV show.
