As a collectible, the LS3/5As probably offers the best value as there were likely more Rogers versions made than all other brands put together, making them more common. For my money, the JR149s are the bargain of the Rogers crop. Same drivers as, and voted by some pundits as better than, the LS3/5a. Never had the JR woofer - pretty hard to come by. But I found that the JR149s - with a bit of bass boost (eg +3 db on the Leben) - did all I needed in the lower register. Surprisingly adequate. Also had a pair of JR150s some time back; long gone now, but to my ear, they just didn't seem to have the midrange magic of the smaller 149. I've sometimes found the same with subwoofers - the addition of another driver into the mix can somehow suck the soul out of the sound. I do know of an ex-tech specialist here in Hobart who must have agreed - he completely cannibalized his 150s (shock, horror!) Blocked of the lower woofer and replaced the other two drivers with Scanspeaks plus a new crossover. Sounded quite good but.......what a shame. PS: Re the above comment:- also found the same with Harbeth. The P3ESR are superb little speakers, whereas the larger SHL5s did nothing for me.
