  1. Just had a listen to this. it sounds like the volume is quite high but as we know the room is quite lively atm so it is actually difficult to assess just how loud. As these video's are not super exciting to watch I would like to see people providing some extra info like an spl meter in the shot so you can get a good handle on how loud it is which then gives a better idea of how that relates to ones own system.
  2. Further information: Was not planning on selling this anytime soon but a change of speakers has forced my hand as I now need at least 8 channels. I previously had the RI-100 and then upgraded to this unit and have not felt the need to go to the Mk2 version. This is in the great looking black finish which I prefer. The dac is the first version dac module and has usb, spdif, toslink and AES connections and will do 192k pcm or 128DSD. Unit works perfectly and I am second owner, originally purchased from the local distributor and is obviously Australian delivery .Comes with box and all original contents. Have also now included a Synergistic Research orange fuse worth $220 Have loved my time with this integrated and dac and to improve upon either the amp or dac in any significant way will be extremely expensive. . This amp/dac combo delivers so much and does so without requiring multiple power cables, interconnects etc, which of course can add quite a bit of cost. I previously ran a Devialet 200 and I preferred the Vitus on every measure by a good margin at any volume. I have compared the Vitus dac with dacs that retail in the 4k region and they are different but dont outclass the dac module. Of course if you want to add a mega msb dac to kick the digital section up a gear you can, and use the internal dac for casual listening or sell it to annother RI-100/101 owner. Also has HT bypass function for those that want to integrate their HT setups. Have original box so can ship at buyers cost but this amp is super heavy so pickup highly preferred. some extra reading have been getting some questions about the dac module, how good is it? what is it equivalent to? I think the dac module is an absolute bargain and unless you are planning on spending very big money on a dac it is more than adequate for most, but perhaps some less biased views from others might be worth reviewing The following compares this module with the chord 2qute and others This is an in depth description of the RI-101 by a UK hifi dealer. In it he says that a Melco with the original dac module will outperform the later streaming module. (which costs more) Interesting... https://www.audiotherapyuk.com/2018/11/20/a-rough-guide-to-the-vitus-ri-101/ The dac module is reputed to be the the board used in the RCD-101 a cd/dac player that retailed for $14500 on its own. Another questions was what is the dac chip used. It is the Analog Devices AD1955 chip . These are the other players that utilise this chip, of course the implementation is just as important (if not more) but some excellent dacs have used this chip. You can look here http://vasiltech.narod.ru/CD-Player-DAC-Transport.htm just type in AD1955 and filter the results. Also just found the mag below which reviews this model and will include for the new owner. 3. Further information: These are based on the famous (even though most havent heard of it) Linkwitz LX521.4 . Essentially they are genuine LX521.4's for all but the bass driver and bass enclosure. The lower and upper mid and tweeter are original and mounted on a spec shaped baffle which is the majority of the magic of these speakers. These were custom built by the previous owner (and look quite attractive to me) to suit a single 15 inch driver (as opposed to the 2 x 10 inch drivers in the original) as they were wanting to keep costs down (the original bass drivers alone would cost well over what I am asking for these with no enclosure or fittings. I and am only selling as a pair of complete LX521's came up for sale. Shipping these would be problematic as I have no boxes but can take to pack and send for you to have couriered at your expense. Sale includes the speakers consisting of Tweeters - SEAS 27TFFNC/G, H1396-04, coated textile dome, front and rear of midrange/tweeter baffle Upper Midrange - SEAS MU10RB-SL, H1658-04 Curv cone 42" above floor Lower Midrange - SEAS U22REX/P-SL, H1659-08 Curv cone Woofers - Eminence Beta 15A 15 inch driver in a custom made and finished enclosure. wired with canare cable and fitted with binding posts LX521 license and plans (which needs to be purchased separately when buying on the web) rrp 120 Eur https://linkwitz.store/product/lx521-plans/) which includes the values for the minidsp crossover curves. Minidsp 4 x 10 HD unit with power supply control plugin in original box So to get these to work you need to add 8 channels of amplification minimum 60 w. A low cost option might be an old avr with individual inputs for the multichannels. Happy to explain further if interested. The minidsp has digital and analogue inputs and a volume control so can act as a preamp with limited inputs. This is for someone who has some understanding of active speakers and how to set them up and wants to have a play. The minidsp allows a lot of flexibility in terms of gain matching and modifying the stock curves and I will supply my best version of the crossover for the non stock bass driver but again an understanding (or at least interest) in how this is optimised is necessary. This system wont sound its best in your room if you just plug and play (but I would probably say that now for just about any system but this one is a bit more complicated due to the 8 channels of audio going to the speakers) I got these after getting interested in open baffle speakers such as the Gaia and the intrinsic benefits of this type of design. There are some things that open baffles do acoustically as a result of the physics of having an open baffle and it results in a highly enhanced soundstage. If you like things like q sound (ala Roger Waters Amused to death) then these are the speakers for you. I did have a listen to some commercial open baffle offerings which use a passive crossover and in the end I found them a bit unsatisfying and constricted in extension and a bit "radiogrammy" for lack of a better word. These have no such issues and extend from 30Hz to 30Khz plus. Even with the non spec bass drivers they can go quite loud and have plentiful non boomy bass. If you wanted to upgrade them in the current config there are more powerful drivers that would do a great job such as the Acoustic Elegance 15 inch OB drivers as well as many others. If you have always wanted to find out what lx521's can do at a low entry cost these are perfect. 4. Further information: SR FEQ, has a few marks on top as shown. Comes with global ac adapter, has us style 2 pin plug but will accept 240v voltage. Some people use LPS with these to improve these further. Also comes with grounding cable with US plug and AUS adapter. Selling to try further up the SR chain. Search on sna for FEQ if you want to understand what it can do. Shipping included. 5. Further information: Well known and reviewed usb reclocker/isolator. Please see web for more info. This one comes with the original uptone power supply (and original US power cable which I have stored pointlessly) and original usb a to b cable. 6. have been getting some questions about the dac module, how good is it? what is it equivalent to? Also should say If you are considering this unit and would like to make an offer please do so. I am currently considering a couple of offers made. I think the dac module is an absolute bargain and unless you are planning on spending very big money on a dac it is more than adequate for most, but perhaps some less biased views from others might be worth reviewing The following compares this module with the chord 2qute (vitus better) , a generic comment saying it compares favourably with many dacs at the 10k mark. This is an in depth description of the RI-101 by a UK hifi dealer. In it he says that a Melco with the original dac module will outperform the later streaming module. 7. I would restart every network device (from memory, you have lots) Also would check all eth cables are firmly seated. I would also get very frustrated.
  8. Am interested in the "veil" you refer to with the previous Ref 6 (and earlier?) . Would appreciate a bit more of a description on how you would describe it further and what you perceive it is and how the supratek and the current version overcome it.
  9. He may just be hiding his side hustle from the missus, or the taxman.....
