Andy Stott - Passed Me By/We Stay Together

---came out last year, but have only just gave it a listen. Post-Techno, post-dub...Whatever you want to call it, its diabolical, and seriously well put together. A must listen on headphones, extremely loud.

This was great! Cd ordered!

Portico Quartet - Portico Quartet

Ordered their back catalogue - similar to Hidden Orchestra. I have been enjoying this quite a bit, thank you for the suggestion and a belated welcome.

Two albums:

Kuba, Random Precision, Chillcode Records

http://www.psyshop.c.../chi1cd014.html

Dubby, psy-ish chill, very inoffensive electronic chillout. Some trancey tracks, quite nicely produced, and lovely for a Sunday evening or with friends and couple of drinks. His first album 'Inside Out' is a beauty and one of more expensive cds I own.

Desert Dwellers, Downtemple Dub Remixed, White Swan Records

http://www.whiteswan...product_ID/3078

The original series is sexy psy-chill with strong ethnic flavas, particularly 'Waves' and one other - name escapes me. But good stuff nevertheless. There are some big names remixing DD tracks. Androcell - (one of my favourite artists) makes appearance as does the [very] under rated Aussie Kyla Scinitilla. Drum Spyder has a cracker of a solo album and also has a couple of tracks on this album. Happy Sunday, everyone.

EDIT: I was actually a little dissapointed with this album, still a few good tracks, but largely promise unfulfilled.

So I bought Boards of Canada, Trans Canada Highway.

It has taken probably at least 3-4 listens to 'find' it. But finally getting into it. Have also been thoroughly enjoying John Talabot Fin.

Some great music being suggested here!

Recently ordered.

...and another:

Celt Islam, Baghdad, Ajnavision Records

http://www.psyshop.com/shop/CDs/ajv/ajv1cd004.html

This is a great album released on a high quality young lable. Only three physical releases on Ajnavision and all are well worth buying. This is well produced electronica - the artfully played natural drums warrant special mention (with other analogue instruments being thrown into the mix) as they are melded with the deftly created and well placed electronic elements. Great music for an evening with friends whilst having a few drinks or dinner. Aesthetically pleasing when either passively or actively listening to it.

I have been playing this album a few times in a short space of time - it really is a beauty.

This evening it is:

Bluetech, The Divine Invasion, Aleph Zero

This most recent physical release of Even Bartholomew is well produced electronic down tempo that was three years in the making. Multi layered percussion is a Blutech signature (4:00min - 4:47min of track one typifies this aspect of his music and can be used a reference track to test tweeter performance) and has been well presented on this album. His production makes a marked step forward each album, and as his third album this is really nicely produced and mastered. This album steers away from mixing electronic and analogue instruments yet still manages to be a very musical album.

This album will really test system resolution and as such rewards conscious listening even though it is now a few years old.

Playing the Jef Stott album from early this year, entitled "ARCANA". It is certainly a workout for a good system- if your gear cannot serve up accurate attack and decay, this will sound like a primal ooze. If it can, it is a treat.

It sits comfortably near the more demented DEAD CAN DANCE works, but amped up 10 fold, with punishing ethno beats, and all manner of percussive attack.

Vocals recall Lisa Gerrard at times. Use of Oud, Darbuka and other middle eastern instruments, also has you remembering Peter Gabriels' soundtrack 'PASSION'.

WARNING- if anyone's interest is piqued, you should know that Stott incorporates a possible speaker shredding electronic effect on track one, DEEP PLAYA. I use it to scare the mynah birds from my veranda - tres effective.

Something old and something newish...

Something old (but awesome):

Celtic Cross, Hicksville, Liquid Sound Design

http://www.discogs.c...e/release/43913

Classic Simon Posford and Youth, produced in 1998 but avant garde to the point that it is still on the cutting edge. Rock, psychedelic down tempo, world, trance and accoustic sounds meld into a scintillating soundscape. The album is covers considerable terrain and delicate, deft and powerfully masterful. The instruments are played very well and the electronic manipulation is some of Posford's finest.

Master Margerhita, The Marginal Rules, Blue Hour Sounds.

http://sangitasounds...marginal-rules/

Swirling soundscapes artfully created and brilliantly produced. Master Margerhita is one of my favourite producers. Made with a sense of humour and lots of love this is an ambient release that meanders across the musical universe. Fuses jazz, funk, ambient, tribal and a myriad of other genres.

Both of these albums are works of art.

Nice haul JJ

3.47 E.S.T. is another one from Klaatu worth getting too but you probably have that already.

Just had a look after a major rearrangement this week, and have:

And noted that 3.37 has been remastered, so may have a look out for it when i'm in Melbourne next week ....

The KLAATU catalogue did get redone a few years back- could not afford to investigate it at that point, but kept my vinyl. Some of It has aged very well, but a few duff tracks.

I burnt a car copy of Sounds of the Universe when it first came out. Don't laugh, but the first track completely destroyed my ability to do a smooth gear change, and co-ordinate in general. I think the word is discombobulation. I tried it on the return journey, and the same thing happened. It wrecked my synapses whilst it played- no joking. It's strictly for home enjoyment now.

ZM.
