SteroeNET Home Page

As most of you know, the index page of StereoNET has been removed for quite some time now. This was the result of a severe hacking / virus infection that was beyond repair.

I am going to code a new page and re-implement it as while we know the forums are where it's all at, the home page needs to tell visitors what the site is all about. The site's code and graphics need a clean up also which I'll be doing at the same time.

I thought I would involve you guys and ask for your opinions about what exactly the front page should contain? Obviously an introduction to SNA and what it's all about, but what else? I know some members like to see the latest posts on there. SNA has never really had a mission statement or similar.

Any thoughts and suggestions?

The front page of OCAU would be a good start I reckon. Would have to nominate a "news monkey" who is dedicated enough to collect hi-fi related news from various sites and post it there.

A list of current sponsors would be good too.

A brief bit of info, space for sponsors and recent posts sure.

And definitely a members login feature somewhere prominent so those of us who come regularly can get on with it.

p.s. And thanks for all your hard work on this!

from what i have seen from other sites and what i hear from others, no one really cares about the front page and most do not visit it or look at it

hi marc,

while I understand about asking us what we think, my personal belief is that there is room for SNA (and any other website) to be so much more than just a forum, and so it should be whatever *you* want it to be.

as JohnA says, the forum'ers wouldn't normally look at it, so it wouldn't bother us too much if you decided to turn it into something not directly related to the forum.

while I don't know about your personal situation, should you (for instance) want to derive income from it, or turn it into your full-time occupation, etc, then I say go for it.

i'm thankful you've created the forums for us to chat in, but it's your site and you'd be doing the work and reaping the rewards at the end of the day :D

The front page of OCAU would be a good start I reckon.

Would be a good start maybe, but would have to cull 80% of all the crap. Far too busy for my liking, just makes me want to go to the google page for some peace and quiet :D

Hi Marc I'm not sure what you want to display as a first impression for new people stumbling onto SNA.

But for those of us now ingrained here liker me, I just go straight to new posts without to much searching.

Perhaps most people here are like me,maybe not?

I don't think a 'front page' is needed unless it is a magazine forum and some self promotion for the Mag is needed.

What about a page saying "Come and chat to these people" and fill the page with everyones avatars.

OK ... good to get some feedback from the regulars and not-so regulars however.

I appreciate the varying opinions, and a combination of dynamic data pulled straight from the forums (requiring no one to physically update it), and "StereoNET" news, such as the current SNA Shirt order etc, along with a brief "what's it all about" type intro would suffice I imagine.

The login and linking it with the forum software is a bit more challenging, but I'll give it a crack.

I'm midway through house renovations this week and next (actually have no master bedroom or ensuite presently and barely a roof!) but I'll be making a start on this.

Ditto, exactamundo! What Joz said.

Marc, I was just about to write " when are we likely to be seeing the home page return ? Thet 'Recent posts' facility saves a lot of time when you are fighting off a horde of ignorant, self-opinionated, ugly, South Australian, Shiraz guzzlers in multiple threads", but then I see shed's photo and I lose my whole train of thought. My god they're round.

Geez lucky you lost your train of thought Nigel cos I know Grumps doesn't like shiraz, Mondie is far from ignorant, Tony M is not at all self opinionated, Cheekyboy just moved here and Andy is not that bad looking so you can go and stick your....wow look at that pic...what was i saying...oh never mind :)

Sorry to hear about the hacking & virus. Seems so prevalent now.

Keep it simple is my motto. I tend to browse forums and the news side plus reviews. I not a regular on here so would look at what was originally a "front page" and start from that. The original one was fine by me when I first visited here many years ago.

Cheers

How did you possibly find and reply to this thread from 11 years ago? I'm fascinated.

Salma rides again it seems. Welcome back old style SNA chatter!

Unlike you dear leader, he doesn't clear his cache and is possibly running the same browser from 2009 when he joined.

I've never cleared mine.
