I ordered this CD last weekend and it arrived yesterday. Had a first listen to it last night. First impressions are that it is an ok album, but I will need to give it a couple more spins I reckon. This was recorded between 2019 and 2022 and was released in 2022. The main reason I bought this was partly out of curiosity about how well the collaboration between Jeff Beck and Johnny Depp works, and also the fact that this is probably the last recording that Jeff Beck made before he passed away in 2023 ( with the possible exception of the opening guitar on Mark Knopfler's Guitar Heroes recording of Going Home which was released in 2024.)

The choice of material on this Beck / Depp collaboration is a bit mixed, and I'm not sure that it all works quite as well as it should. Jeff Beck's guitar playing is as good as ever, and I think Johnny Depp does a reasonable job with his vocals and instrument playing, but I'm not sure what I think of the album as a whole. For example, I'm not sure that the choice of John Lennon's song Isolation as the final track on the album was a particularly good one.

So I think I need to give this disc a few more spins, although I suspect this is probably one of those albums where I will tend to be a bit selective about which tracks I choose to play in future.

Just as well then that you went for the CD version over the L,P. Not so easy to be picky with the tracks on records.

When I looked on amazon.com.au I saw they only had one copy left. Price was ok so placed an order out of curiosity. (figured I couldn't go too wrong with Jeff Beck playing lead guitar).

I'm not sure how they chose the title 18, liner notes don't say. Jeff Beck's previous album to this one was Loud Hailer recorded with Rosie Bones and Carmen Vandenberg in 2016, so perhaps this was his 18th album? I reckon Loud Hailer is a cracker of an album and I play it quite often, so I did temper my expectations a bit before playing this latest album. On first impressions I don't think '18' is quite in the same category as Loud Hailer, but I think it deserves it a few more spins in any case.

I agree about Loud Hailer. Very underrated. I actually purchased 'Bones UK', which is Rosie Bones and Carmen Vandenberg's band. The album is 'Soft'. Very good album. Strong in every track.
