Electrically or sonicly how does the mesh plate help. I have Sophia Princess mesh plate rec. tubes and apart from they look great they handle less current. xlr8or
My understanding is that there are 2 types of meshplates in existence. The 'true' wire wound type found on very old vintage tubes (predominantly 1920's to 1950's production) and only modern tubes made by either KR Audio or Emission Labs. The second type are perforated plate, which are also found on later vintage types (after the 1950's) and Chinese made modern tubes. In terms of thermal properties, the wirewound meshplates have much higher surface area and breathable plate structure for the gas to pass through compared to solid plate structure types. They would also be able to dissipate heat much better. Also the presence of finer diameter wire offers much faster conductance. The perforated plate structure type would offer some of these benefits, but not to the extent of the wire meshplate variety. calypso
NOS mid fifties, brown base 6j5’s turned up today. Ready to be put into 6sn7 adapters. Labeled by seller as Tungsram but reliably informed (thanks Kirk) are probably Mullards. 3
xlr8or
Is this the best sounding tube in man's existence? Behold, let me introduce you to the year of 1930 and the fascinating thoriated tungsten filament RCA UX-210 DHT. Someone switch off the damn lights! The tube boxes even look Gothic. 10

They do look good and I know they sound good. My DIY preamp with Cunningham 71a is so organic and transparent and a nice little glow. Your amp looks very good. http://retro-thermionic.blogspot.com/2020/04/mwh-1920s-ux-171a-tube-preamp.html

Detail and separation bought to new levels in my system. They aren't cheap ( $600 for a quad delivered from Langrex UK ) but compared to top line Brimar, Mullard ecc33/6sn7 types they're still relatively affordable and offer, from what I've been told, equivalent sound quality. Certainly I have no complaints. 2
calypso
Type 50…..King of the low watt triodes? Here is a pair of Sylvania 50’s. Large ST shape with double D getters. I’ll probably never get an amp that uses 50’s again but I’m having trouble parting with these beauties. 6

The 50 valves are the latter small ST shape. They are okay but the earlier large ST and globes are preferred. Price is good though 1 hour ago, calypso said: Price is right if it stayed there. However, I would stick with my preferred octal over EF86, having heard both valves.
