I have been debating the idea of maybe downgrading my Emotiva XMC-2 to the new Emotiva MC-1

You will be getting a lower quality Pre with no Dirac.

Also it's a new Emotiva product, so it wil be completely buggy and you will be thier R&D for the next 2 years..

I own a XMC-2, happy with the sound quality, totally over its bugginess..

Emotiva, never again.

(power amps are Ok, have 2 XPA-5 Gen-1 still going strong)

Thank you very much for the recommendations SNA. I have a feeling its going to open a huge can of worms into which I may never get out haha Super curious to check this out. Thank you very much.

I noticed my rack got mentioned on the emotiva Instagram. I love the brand so it was great news being mentioned on there.

THanks very much for that. Yeah seems like being on a hard surface might be in order. Otherwise I think the carpet might muffle it too much. Thanks for the suggestion re 4000 series. I do wish they brought out a PC3000 subwoofer. Best of both worlds.

please do your research before considering the 4000 series, as mentioned in a past post the 3000 series $ for $ but if wanting the "box" style 2nd hand has 2 for sale in S.A.

Actually i just heard a dual PC4000 setup at a friend's place on boxing day. He added a second PC4000 as an xmas present. Even with 1 pc4000, i thought it was enough but with positioning it was hard as it was easily localised on some scenes when watching movies previously. Now with the 2nd one in the system, colour me impressed. I literally had a few OMG moments watching Fury.  There's definitely a gap in the SVS range with the PC series, you have either 2000s or 4000s.   I used to have an SB3000, and although it was a very capable sub, the 4000 is a step up.  At least when i listened to his pc4000 and came home to mine.

Sorry I didn't reply sooner. @Hytram. I must admit I have a soft spot for the XMC2 processor. The bugs have luckily avoided me (I must have a bug deterant called "luck" haha)

@MrBurns84 The PC4000 would be pretty awesome. I've always been a huge fan of Cylinder subwoofers since the first concept of sonotube subwoofers with the good ol Adire Shiva subwoofers back in the day

Someone was selling an Adire tempest here on the classifieds... they were a beast but in a big enclosure, powered by the behringer ep pro amps...lol.. certainly brought back fond memories..

@MrBurns84 Wow that does bring back memories. I remember the Adire Brahma as well LOL. Good ol days indeed.

Well I may have done something bad....

I just put a preorder for 2x V15+ Miller Kreisel subwoofers. This is the beginning of the next stage YIKES. More developments to come tonight :)

Yes you did, don't worry about more subs...you need to upgrade your front stage and especially the centre speaker.

i remember hearing the mk sound set at audio trends in early days of 3D audio and it was certainly VERY excellent. clean clear..articulate and detailed, plenty of dynamics and yet composed pumping some watts ! with a good range of boxed and in wall/ceiling speakers should be something there for everyone :)

See what happens with some gentle prodding 😎

As far as the traitor goes he is on the left hand side with the six M5 speakers. I am guessing the M4T speakers have not arrived yet. Well done...

They are definitely a bit more than most options but they seem to have been very consistent over the years. I suppose you could say they haven't had a particularly bad product, but have had some very amazing ones.

hahahhaa thats very true indeed. I loved having matching speakers, but did find me wanting more from the centre speaker but unfortunately SVS didn't have the prime centre in gloss white.

I am using 2 cup holder tablet mounts which allow me to control the emotiva xmc2 processor, while the other one is used to control the computer (using a touchpad / keyboard app).

My hifi rack. Work in progress. From top to bottom:

Tenda wifi 6 router for oculus quest 2 (airlink)

18.5" Phillips screen

Gaming PC (running Ryzen 5 5600 and 6900XT Graphics card)

3 x 5.25" Hard drive enclosures (interestingly 3x 5.25" bays fit perfectly in a 1ru bay width and height wise)

Emotiva XMC-2, Emotiva A7 x2, then a Dayton Audio APA1200DSP for the buttkicker LFE.

What you see below is actually an idea I had. What I have done is put a 1ru blanking plate above the back of each amp and use my vinyl printer/cutter to indicate which channel is which.

Here is the results. I did a square border around it for a bit of fun. You don't see them, but it makes it super easy to do maintenance.

Well done. An excellent upgrade :)

Unless something has changed in the intervening years, M&K satellites are all designed specifically so there are no ill effects from horizontal mounting. I have the ancient ancestor of the M7, the K7 as my centre channel (K5s as fronts and K4 tripoles as rears) and the response is completely even no matter where I sit.

Having your speaker cover the screen is giving me hives :D

Thanks a heap. You couldn't be more right about horizontal mounting. I was super lazy and I was using the same wall bracket as my previous SVS Prime Satellites (which I JUST managed to do vertically haha)

I will end up doing 2 brackets on either side of the unit. Looking forward heaps to doing this. Thing is should I centre the tweeter to the centre of the room, or the whole speaker haha

Did a new development in which I mounted the buttkicker lfe to the centre compartment of the couch.

received_1230837710774663.jpeg

Interestingly I have a Vesa Mount for my server rack spare, and added a few washers on either side of it (since it was JUST short of fitting). The awesome thing is that with the Vesa bracket I have, I am able to mount the Buttkicker LFE straight to it. Worked an absolute treat.

just having a bit of trouble working out the best speaker configuration
This is what I have so far:
White boxes are speakers.
Purple speakers are as follows:
Front Height speakers
Middle top speakers
Rear Height Speakers
Those red lines are guidelines based on what Dolby Atmos recommends.
I am hoping to possibly get away with Middle Height speakers (so speakers on the top of the walls above the Surround Left / Right speakers as I won't need any new ceiling speakers.

A few small updates. I ended up buying 2 pairs of Miller Kreisel IW5 ceilling speakers  In this sense I would be looking at a 9.2.4 setup but preferred it than an awkward 9.2.6 setup which the speakers don't sit in well.

Adjustment below:

 | Fronts: M&K Sound M7 Speakers

 | Center: M&K Sound M7 Speaker
 | Front Wides: M&K Sound M7 Speakers |

 | Side SurroundsM&K Sound M4T Speakers  |

 | Back SurroundsM&K Sound M4T Speakers  |

 | Front Heights: M&K Sound IW5 Ceiling Speakers |

 | Rear Heights: M&K Sound IW5 Ceiling Speakers |
 | Subwoofers: Dual M&K Sound V15 Plus 15" Subwoofer |

I have been contemplating the idea of getting this 4k Bluray Player. In particular mainly because it is Rack Mountable, and also matches the same colours/effect as the Emotiva Gear. I do know there are a few other products (which are likely better) for the same money but I am not keen on having the bluray player on a shelf. They are about $1k ouch.

Your paying for extra features like this sdcx as its is a professional component

The BD-MP4K includes SDXC port on the front and USB port on the back to enable fixed or interchangeable usage of external media.

Tascam has had a great reputation for a long time ;especially with their reel to reel decks . Its got a great form factor though being 1u high and is built like the professional component it is  Its specs dont list 3d playback though if a factor..

I would seriously consider it as it would match your Emo gear though and it would be built to last and handle 240v without a transformer  [ and wouldnt have a lot of empty space in the chassis 🤔 ]

Great suggestion regarding the Tascam. I did have to make one small alteration to the configuration as below:
Should be a really nice setup once it all arrives.

 | Fronts: M&K Sound M7 Speakers

 | Center: M&K Sound M7 Speaker
 | Front Wides: M&K Sound M7 Speakers |

 | Side SurroundsM&K Sound M4T Speakers  |

 | Front Heights: M&K Sound M5 Speakers |

 | Rear Heights: M&K Sound M5 Speakers |
 | Amps: Dual Emotiva A-7 - 7 Channel Power Amps |

 | Tactile Transducers : Twin Crowson Motion Actuators + Crowson D501 Amplifier  |

Here is my progress.

I am using my own coded unified remote on a Lenovo tablet.

It can IR trigger any command to the surround processor.

I have programmed an Alexa and a broadlink rm mini to control lighting in the room as well as turn on the projector and processor.

I also configured one of the menus to run scripts on the actual PC that launches PC games on my gaming PC using shortcuts on my tablet. Technically don't even need a keyboard and mouse (but the tablet app does have both).

Still waiting at the moment for the dual M&K V15+ to arrive from America.  I am super curious to see how they sound. I wasn't able to view any reviews prior to purchasing them but I am confident they will be great. Exciting to see this is the second attempt at 15" drivers (the X15+ being the first). I believe they are THX Ultra certified with dual subwoofers so they should be more than enough for my 5.2x4.8m room

The crowson actuators are still on order, supposably they should be here maybe April / May. Exciting times ahead.

Not too much has changed since last week apart from a slightly different configuration:

The main difference from last time is that I have M&K Sound M7's in the back and side surrounds now (so I will have monopole surround).

As a result of this decision I have made a small upgrade on the amplifiers powering the M7 speakers (9 all up). I went with the 3x Emotiva A-3 amplifiers to power the M7 speakers and then the Emotiva A-7 amp to power the 6 height speakers.

| Fronts: M&K Sound M7 Speakers |

 | Center: M&K Sound M7 Speaker |
