Abbas Audio Owners & Discussion Thread

Featured Replies

I may have missed a few pages of this discussion but has anyone posted pricing of each available DAC or is it all up on eBay?

Has anyone had much experience using these DAC’s with an Innous Streamer (or any streamer for that matter)?

Finally, my preference is a DAC with x2 inputs (Transport & Streamer), or is it cheaper/better to buy the single input model & use an external digital hub like the Mutec?

Cheers all

Matt

My ABBAS Psyche Signature is in the house. Absolutely loving it and enjoying the burn in process. ABBAS has made an absolute masterpiece with this dac. I am very thankful. Not too much tube rollin

Best to use Mutecs with these units for additional inputs and for sound quality reasons.

Hi Matt, I have the 2.3SE which I use with my Lumin U1 mini, with excellent results.

There was an earlier post regarding pricing in this thread. There is no longer anything on ebay, as far as I know. If you want specifics, best to contact Abbas directly. He answers promptly, although he is a man of few words.

It would be cheaper to specify a model with optional / selectable inputs rather than a separate piece of equipment. I can't comment on possible SQ improvements - best to chat with MattyW on this and pricing.

I’d get an added RCA input installed with a 2 way switch on the back similar to the DAC U.  :)

my Lumin U1 mini,

With an external power supply?

Hope to hear more of your experience with this .

Not ready to go down this path but sounds like a good match.

Hi Guys,

The problem is that I don't actually fully understand all the models he has on his website.

I'm also researching the external clocks, like the Gustard u18 so in terms of inputs, I may only need one, which I'm open to suggestions as to what is the best option with something like a u18 in front of the DAC.

As far as my inputs into my DAC,

1. Innous Zen Mini streamer (& more ROON Core) which actually has Ethernet, USB, Cox & RCA out so I do have choices, however I'm assuming I would use USB out > u18.

2. PS Audio PerfectWave Transport with I2S out so maybe the u18 isn't the best fit as it doesn't have i2S in, but if not an issue, I would use Coax > U18.

My preference would be balanced out.

Looking on his website, it appears that here as quite a few choices, in regards to chip, tube variants & other options, i.e.

DAC Chips: 1543, 1541 R1 or A?, pcm63p-K & pcm58-k

Tube Outputs: ECC42, ECC88, 6N6P/EZ80, 5687/EZ35, E182CC + 5Y3, 6080 D3a Siemens?

??: E180F, EAA91 EZ90?

Any assistance in at least unraveling the options would be of great help.

Cheers

Matt

I don't think anyone understands that stuff except Abbas. What I do understand is the price points that I can afford and that heavily determined my purchasing decision at the time. The 2.2SE was what I went with though that was prior to the release of the 2.3SE. You'll need to discuss with Abbas.

How much was the 2.2SE if you don't mind me asking?

All those are tube designations underlined and circled in red, what you have highlighted in yellow is DAC chip models, or in part. You can google the tube models to see what they are, many are rectifiers for power supplies, some are triodes for output stages.

The DAC chips like the TDA1541 have different versions, like R1,  S1 ect made by Philips, PCM chips are made by a different maker and have different versions also.

I'm considering the Abbas 2.3SE to replace a Chord Qutest connected to Auralic Aries G1.

I was quoted, USD2280 + USD90 shipping.

Seems it fits the price point of the old 2.2SE. I think that was $3,400 AUD from memory.

Sounds like he’s running low on some part required to build them. Likely either TDA1541 or Black Gate caps

Could be that, Or it could also be that he's moving along to focus on his new 3.2SE although I'm not sure what parts that will use..

I think that he probably has too many similar models for buyers and that leads to a bit of confusion. It makes sense to rationalise and perhaps focus a little bit on custom features, eg XLR options, multiple digital inputs etc (just my own thoughts).

If he has pre-built three 'copies' it means that you won't have to wait for build times - he can ship straight away. It would normally take approx four weeks to build.

Total time from initial part payment to delivery for mine was about two months.

I should have an Abbas 4.0 Gold with Kondo SRPP output stage and Spdif-usb converter ( that is purchased used) tomorrow. Very excited to hear it!

I'm in the US, but this is one of the few places that has an active and informative Abbas thread.

All good. Everyones welcome here  :)

Be interesting to hear your thoughts on this DAC. The Kondo output stage sounds very interesting.
