To the moderators/Marc

Can I respectfully ask can we please have a new thread again to replace the one that was closed?

This is obviously the biggest health event Australia/The World has seen for a long time, there was so much good information/posts/links etc from very knowledgeable members

Prof/Ittaku etc

I think the politics got in the way?

Please?

And put it in correct sub forum with a suitable title!

Many thanks

Regards Muriwai

yes can we just leave out the politics and the conspiracy theories... thats what killed the last one...

also we have to be mindful this whole topic is quite a source of aggravation for a lot of folk...who might not be handling things the best right now in anycase given circumstances...

ultimately they can decide self censor the content they read.

My current situation is thus;

Yes we live in Melbourne so in lockdown and home schooling.  13 days ago my wife had a client in at work for a dog consult (both wearing masks and he was temp tested prior to entering). He rang 2 days later confirming a + test the previous day. He reported my wife as a close contact as a normal consult is 15 minutes, but we have never heard from the health department. Wife rang the Covid hotline twice and got totally different advice.

Regardless, for the benefit of everybody else my wife has self isolated at home, thankfully we have a double story with the main downstairs. When my wife was on the way home we rounded up kids clothes etc and brought it all down stairs so we are living separte lives except for taking her meals and taking washing up back. She's already tested negative once and we are waiting on the result of a test 2 days ago so she can leave iso. She's had no symptoms, but at least I'm proud that she/we have gone above and beyond in our families attempt to stop any spread. It hasn't been easy and we are over it, but hopefully test results come back negative this arvo or tomorrow.

Im hearing more and more conflicting stories about what to do once tested and TBH it frustrates the hell out of me. I too a number of weeks ago was feeling quite average so rang the closest testing station to me which is literally 150m away and was refused as I wasnt a patient of that clinic WTF!!!!

Was told I need to get a referral from my Dr. and drive to a testing station to which I replied im in no state to drive (and no not drinking at the time lol) so felt like I was left stranded. Hadt o then make my own call and go into self iso regardless of test.

this concerns me ... my dad wanted to get tested(he is negative)... but took some effort to find location, its quite frustrating actually...

we found site below.. but gee it takes some digging to even find the local drive through... its certainly not listed on the web page have to download a CSV file and ferret way through that

https://www.dhhs.vic.gov.au/where-get-tested-covid-19

you'd think you'd have a simple app or web page bung in your post code or suburb to find nearest as most websites tend to have.

I couldn't go with him either... if he thinks he has it i can't sit in the car with him for who knows how long. he has had a knee reconstruction just recently so can imagine how uncomfortable it is for him to sit in a car for how long he had to as queue wormed its way around for the test.

they keep saying go get tested etc got to be easy way to just get this done ?

This is a shame to hear. I had symptoms, was tested that day and results returned by SMS in less than 18 hours.

This is the website I used. https://www.healthdirect.gov.au/symptom-checker/tool/basic-details

They had a widget at the end of the questions that told me my nearest testing place. I just rang them, they booked appointment that day. Wore a face mask going to appointment, then self isolated. Result the next morning.

Possibly easier in WA, I guess the workload is significantly lower than some other states.

@Tubularbells something has changed...

https://www.theage.com.au/politics/federal/new-data-sharing-system-to-address-victoria-s-contact-tracing-woes-20200724-p55f61.html

"The Department of Health and Human Services has ordered doctors at testing sites not to test anyone without symptoms unless they present a DHHS letter or text message identifying them as a close contact, or a letter proving they are booked in for elective surgery.

The Age and Sydney Morning Herald have been told that individuals who presented for testing on Friday after having close contact with a confirmed case, but who had not yet been approached by contact tracers, were turned away."

"The following people are not currently eligible for asymptomatic testing: People living in previously identified ‘hotspot suburbs’ [and] people with letters from their employer, school or community group advising them to get tested," the new DHHS guidelines state."

I guess the loop hole is if you feel you have symptoms ... you can still be tested ? if you say hey i am not sure if i have it ...dont have symptoms they'll turn you back ?

Someone I Know,  has had 3 tests,  the last 2 were negative and he’s waiting on the current one he had done on the weekend.  Yet, this individual, even though his kids weren’t feeling well,  the whole family was tested last weekend,  however this person decided to show up for work!   If you decide to get tested because you feel unwell or whatever reason (being possibly exposed) you are ordered to stay home and isolate till the results are negative, this can take up to 3-5days.... please don’t go to work like this character did!    They already know that 4 out 5 who do get tested don’t stay at home isolated, how they know this?  Your mobile phone pings the tower and they know you moved!   2ndly,  those who do test positive are not answering there phones when contacted!  They then make a 2nd attempt and if you don’t answer they come knocking at your door!   Because if you don’t answer the phone, what are the chances your try to be intelligent and leave the phone at your residence and being mobile?

Just recently they have changed there tactics on testing for health workers, the Boss as an Enrolled Nurse is now required to be tested regardless of symptoms or asymptomatic .  The place she works had an email going around to say they must wear mask, but was contradicted by a directive on the floor during a meeting to say that the Enrolled Nurse “should not be wearing them if they spend less than 15mins with a resident!  Now to give there medication she has to come close and personal  to 50 + residents,  so if she had it, it would spread like wild fire!  She demanded to have a mask or threatened union intervention,   This is the situation in Nursing Homes,  that’s why we are having a catastrophic effect in some Homes and it’s all showing up.

For those who wear glasses and a mask, the best way to prevent fogging :

  • Wash glasses with soap & water, let it air dry. Do not touch lens while it is drying
  • If mask has something to mould to bridge of nose, make the fit as good as possible. Or fold a tissue on top edge of mask. The idea is to reduce moist breathe reaching glasses

Due to their weak constitution, the elderly would be the source of a heavy virus load and therefore would be likely a bigger threat to her than the other way round.

Good luck and best wishes to you all in Victoria, we are thinking of you....????
