Hi all,

Just recently, like yesterday purchased a pair of sexy LS50 passives. I auditioned these speakers and loved the way they sounded and they way they looked. In fact it's the first real set of speakers I've really auditioned and was so excited I bought them on the spot with a Yamaha s701 amplifier.

They didn't have the wireless available to audition..

The problem for me was I brought them home and for some reason started watching videos and reading how the wireless version sounds so much better..

I now have some buyers remorse and am thinking of selling the speakers before even using them since I can't return them because they've been opened...

I also spent a lot of money (for me anyway) and to know I could have spent just a tad extra to get a speaker that sounds like a 20k setup.

Is this silly?

Or are the wireless versions that much better?

Apparently they rival 20k amplifier setups..

Anyway also new to forum, so hi all. Just looking for some advice :D

Thanks for listening.

I think what you have there is a case of premature buyers remorse.

If you like the way they sound then what does it matter if a pair of wireless speakers that cost more are meant to sound better?

I’m surprised the store you bought them from won’t take them back - they will make money as the LS50W will cost you more.

The actives won’t rival a 20K system, but they will make you forget about a 20K system, for a while. The Yamaha would probably struggle to bring out the best in your speakers.

A $20K system doesn’t sound a particular way.

Not sure how LS50W can be compared to, and sound better than a theoretical system.

Enjoy your purchase, it’s a great system you’ve just got yourself [emoji106]

They don’t sound better, they sound different. As do all other speakers connected to different gear.

You have just laid out a substantial amount of hard-earned it makes everyone a little edgy and whatever you would have bought you would be second guessing yourself.

Take heart that the LS50's have been pretty much universally acclaimed as a great speaker and in 10 or 20 years will be listed as one of the most important and significant speakers of all time.

I am probably one of the few here who has never heard a pair. But one poster who owned a pair of Axis Voice Box speakers likened them to exactly sounding like the LS50's. Those I know, and they sound great and have also been acclaimed as brilliant speakers.

Did you ask the retailer?  Most are reasonable with a return and will likely let you swap over, especially if you want to spend more

You are putting far too much weight based on 1 person's opinion!  Suggest you go to another shop and listen to the wireless version...

Yes, this is a bit surprising

If the box has been opened they can’t sell them as brand new anymore. The store would take a loss. Not really fair as it’s buyer’s remorse rather than an issue with the said speaker.

Agree. Once I buy, and there’s no technical issue, it’s keeps. My bad if I don’t like it.

Haven't asked yet. Will ring tomorrow when they open. But reading their returns policy I highly doubt I'll be able to. Says they don't take back opened stock and they also charge a high restocking fee..

You are jumping in way to early, you haven’t even heard the wireless ones. I have using their Bluetooth, and I directly compared them to the pair of wired ones sitting next to them, the latter sounded better to me (their Bluetooth connection back then was rank, even the salesman was floored)

Two things:

Firstly, an opened box can be made to look like a new box as long as all the packaging is still intact.

Secondly, most retailers won't mind an opened box coming back if it means you're going to spend even more money with them.

Yeah that's my thinking too anyway. Hence why I'm thinking of either keeping and just forget about it.
They didn't have the amp in stock so haven't picked that up yet.

So I'll decide what I want to do in the mean time.

Yeah I know. I tend to jump in too early..
But I'm sure they'd sound better.
Pretty much everyone who has heard then both say the wireless sound better.
I've listened to YouTube sound comparisons, I know that's not the same but even I could tell a difference in that.

Anyway it's my blunder. I'll try audition them in person first anyway.

Yes, you certainly shouldn’t buy the wireless unless you hear them first

This is no difference to any other speaker connected to any other amplifier. I can guarantee you could easily make the passives better than the wireless.  And I bet the passives are more colored in sound giving them the illusion of being better.

Most retailers wish to make their customers happy, especially if it means you spend more with them. I like actives purely because the amps have been designed to bring out the best in the speakers.

In my business we deal with stock that has been tried on, sometimes multiple times prior to purchase. The vast majority of customers do not care, as long as the product is not damaged. Cultures are different though, we sometimes get asked by Chinese customers once trying on a product if there is another unopened 1 out the back. I'm not sure why this is the case but it is a rare and non issue to us, we don't care wish 1 they take.

The first part is dodgy. There are laws regarding selling opened goods as new goods. Hence the non return policy for change of mind.

Fair or not that’s the deal. Also I don’t want to buy a product as new that has been home and opened. That’s not on. In hifi these goods would have to be sold at a lesser price or go back and sold as re-packaged.

Secondly if the retailer agrees then that’s a win for the customer.

To the op, keep the speakers, upgrade the amp.

Where? Perhaps for foods or medicines for safety's sake. I sell women's shoes and over 95% of them are tried on before buying, it's sort of why people come to my business instead of taking a punt on buying online. 1 of the brands I sell is available online and it's amazing how many people ask to return stuff to us that they bought online and it doesn't fit. Amazing how people have so little appreciation for how retail business works.

Slightly OT, but I've just bought a "new in the box" item from the classifieds. I asked the seller to open it to confirm contents before I bought it!

Yep, Australian consumer Law states that they have no obligations to return it if it's been opened and there is nothing wrong with the goods.

Should have bought from China hey haha. Would have dodged GST and tax with grey import too possibly.

Upgrade amp is a possibility in the future.
Problem is I don't have 10k to spend on an amp to match sound quality of the actives :P.

Although when I heard then with the moon amp which was 5k they sounded phenomenal. But still 5k for me right now is huge.
But yes it could be a future option.
