  • Totally garage job to get me started in the new room. Still an awful lot to do, but it's playing music. 11x6.5m room, seat is smack in the middle. Yep, it's so good already I want to cry.

  • Got my extra-wide generously padded soft 3 seater lounge suite and it's made a remarkable impact on the liveliness of the room. I think I should wait till I get the two single seaters that I'm also pu

Right wall begun. So glad these guys have the equipment to get the height and alignment perfect (see the laser lines.)

That looks fantastic, Con. It really suits the room.

They are motoring through the job!!

Looks great👍

pftt....... fancy shmancy laser lines.     What ever happened to spitting on you thumb, closing one eye and 'hey Presto' straight as a piece of spaghetti 😛

Looking great Ittaku.    So, so, so envious of that room.    I'm thinking 99% of posters on SNA drooling over that layout.     Mind you, if I had that I'm sure my hearing would be a tad more diminished by now.

Best of luck with the results.

Last one for today, rear wall mostly complete.

Job should be completed tomorrow. Some tweaking of side and back walls, and panels on the roof to go, along with possibly some foam behind the media cabinet doors on the front wall.

Listening impression so far is - as expected - dramatic, and in areas I really didn't expect it to change in addition to the issues I was tackling. The whole room treatment when complete cost me a bit over 30k, but as far as I'm concerned, there is no electronic or hardware upgrade I could have possibly done to my existing system for that price that would have had anywhere near as dramatic an improvement on the sound - this was what I expected, and why I'd effectively maxed out my hardware beforehand. The treatment choices were based around the use of dipoles, bipoles, or omnidirectionals so it was done with the room and system in mind.

I'll wait till the full room treatment is complete tomorrow and do more critical listening before posting my listening notes.

Fantastic, Con!  :thumb:

Very impressed that they took the trouble to match their hair dressing. That should ensure your stereo image is as perfect as all the other gear allows.

It's is pretty exciting to watch.

Would you mind telling us how much the room treatment panels cost (ie without installation costs)?

I would DIY it happily- always wanted to buy a laser level like that :)

Have to shave the old scone, though.....

Not sure, price 140 panels like the ones in the picture.

I imagine it's a much more pleasant rom to just sit and chat in now too.

Really impressed with the colour choice of the panels. It matches the different tones of black/grey/silver from your speakers. It also complements the room well. Often room treatment feels a bit imposing and out of place. This has very good design elements. So worth it when you have put so much effort into the other aspects of the hifi setup.

Roof panels coming along nicely. These are making a dramatic difference to ambient noise levels with the wall panels in place, especially since they're all absorbers and not diffusion.

I noticed that there are no acoustic panels on the front wall or small side windows. Does the other acoustic panels in the side and back wall solve your sound issue sufficiently without needing front paneling. Also I notice the lack of corner bass traps. Is you bass setup such that bass response is optimum as is? Maybe I am jumping the gun and those panels are getting installed next.

I ask about front wall because I am in situation where my front wall is occupied by a fixed projector screen and if acoustic work needs to be applied there then I may need to switch to a pull down or electric driven screen.

The front panels will go behind the front cupboard doors. When open the room will be configured for listening. When closed, a drop down screen will be there for home theatre.

Bass is perfectly fine as is with the two subwoofers and DSP and I don't need bass traps.

Also the sandstone walls probably do a good job of diffusion by themselves- lots of angles and niches

Unless your room is as big as mine, I doubt you'd need that many panels.

Front wall complete. When not illuminated this is so dark it looks very homogeneous from the listening position.

Just some finesse and tidying from there, and then critical listening, enjoying!

Congrats.

I see the OG speakers  up front. Would be really interesting to hear the improvements with this room setup. Could be your rear speakers for a HT setup.  Just need another MBL for your centre and that would be a sick 5.2 setup.

Not too shabby @Ittaku.

I'd love to see the in room response measurements before and after.
