Sierra Posted September 27, 2015 Posted September 27, 2015 Just back from another fantastic arvo at chez Joz. Wow ... didn't realise how big those big red horns are till seeing them in person ... very impressive. Thank you to Joe & Paul for putting on a great day ... and especially to Paul's lovely wife for the delicious lunch ... the BBQ wings were yum as was the chlli chicken ... wonderfully spiced and not too much heat for us heat whimps. Again it was great to catch up with old faces ... some from only on Friday ... and some from many years ago. 2

I bet you still ended up with the same bloody passenger though as innumerable other GTG's/Launches...probably there and back too. 1
Saxon Hall Posted September 27, 2015 Posted September 27, 2015 This is one GTG I would have loved to attend as I have never heard a Horn System. Could not break a previous commitment for this but I am looking forward to hearing these in the near future. Any comments on the actual sound ?
Red MacKay Posted September 27, 2015 Posted September 27, 2015 A big thankyou to Paul, his wife and Joz for another great GTG. I loved the bbq marinated chook arms, they were simply awesome! Funny, but a lot of faces were familiar from Friday night, just the usual suspects... 1

Funny you should mention that @@Luc ... yes it indeed was the same passenger as Friday ... both ways this time ... as obviously he didn't get a better offer today ...
Luc Posted September 27, 2015 Posted September 27, 2015 Man's a human blowfly;drops in through an open door and that's it, you can't remove him just like a blowy; buzzing, always there in the thick of it and no amount of swipes with the swatter will deter him. wondering wheter the application of a Bose deterrent might do the trick? Invite him to Marc's place, ply him with a cheap down market low alcohol crappy beer like he enjoys on a regular basis and sit him in the sweet spot and then lock the doors and turn the Bose blueray sound on... or possibly an iphone hooked up to a blueray speaker. Shut the door, return three hours later and farm him off to a medical research centre for the inexplicable
Guest Posted September 27, 2015 Posted September 27, 2015 Hi Hope everyone had a great day, wished I was there Cheers

Malcolm Posted September 27, 2015 Posted September 27, 2015 (edited) Thanks to Joe for opening his home up for the GTG . Big thanks to Mrs Spencer for the lovely food and I better give Paul & Roger a mention for the PSE's and setting the gear up. Cheers Edited September 27, 2015 by Malcolm 1
evil c Posted September 27, 2015 Posted September 27, 2015 (edited) Fantastic day with great Melbourne weather - thanks to Paul for providing us with an audition of his fine PSE-144 speakers which were larger in the flesh than I imagined with a muscular sound easily filling Joe's cavernous listening area ! Hat off to @@joz for opening his home and displaying his usual excellent hosting skills coupled with good coffee making! As others have mentioned, excellent catering provided by Merrilyn showing off her skills with delicious Curries and spicy Chicken. Enjoyed her dessert too, a feast for the eyes as well as to the palate. El Supremo looking strangely pensive Ah yes, the love runs deep.(insert an emotie here -> ) Edited September 27, 2015 by evil c 2

Ando Posted September 28, 2015 Posted September 28, 2015 Thanks to Joz for the venue and making everyone feel welcome Thanks to Mrs Spencer for the food Thanks to Paul and Roger for having the belief to build the speakers and for organising the audition. The speakers look and sound better each time I have heard them. I also suspect that thanks is due to a few others as well but the creators of these speakers and their supporters are too self effacing to get the credit they deserve. Cheers Mike Joz, You were correct dower amp will copy most all copy protected. CDs but can't confirm the rip is without error.

Guest Posted September 28, 2015 Posted September 28, 2015 Hello I prefer my Ferrari in black and definitely with black phase plugs Regards

Paul's PSE's are a different aproach to similar issues of managing directivity in small rooms (and way less than Ferrari price). Happy to continue this discussion via PM if you refer, but I'm very interested in your views on the PSE vs your own designs. cheers Mike
gainphile Posted September 28, 2015 Posted September 28, 2015 (edited) It is practically impossible to compare two different speakers in completely different rooms! And Joz' room is not by any means 'small' . And I wasn't really comparing speakers anyway, just listened to them. There is a particular trait which I cannot explain and I think quite specific to these types of speakers which I could recall from the earlier Unity and Yorkvilles. They seem to sound more 'intimate' as supposed to 'airy' if that makes any sense. Perhaps simply a factor of direct to reverberant sound field. edit: A bit out of topic, but the princeton thing showed me how FAR we are from ideal in terms of 'normal' stereo listening due to crosstalk. Imagine watching a 3d movie without glasses... that's where we operate! Put on a pair of headphones and listen to these binaurals. Imagine if these can be achieved with a pair of 'normal' loudspeakers? I hope those rocket engineers can figure it out for us. Edited September 28, 2015 by gainphile 1
Paul Spencer Posted September 29, 2015 Author Posted September 29, 2015 First of all, many thanks to our very accommodating and hospitable host Joz: .. and of course his wife who helped the day run smoothly and didn't give us funny looks when we made a complete mess of the living room setting up. My wife isn't seen here because she picked up my camera (and managed to drive it nicely considering she had didn't know how to use it before the day). I've never seen so many people looking behind a speaker. No idea what was being said ... insert your own caption here! As you can see here, Joz has a very big room. One of the biggest listening rooms you will ever see/hear. Al on the left with Roger, me in the middle with faxcomp on the right, on the couch Martin (left) and Earle (right). Dean, Al and Roger Arthur and Kunar Some of the DIYers: Malcolm (left), Ando, Andi, Zog and Roger with faxcomp in the listening chair. A blast from the past. Keith W makes an appearance. Shady characters in the shade wearing shades: Desert. This was a highly experimental mango mousse - hard work as we couldn't find the right mango pulp to make it. Mascot for the day - a very well behaved lab! Thanks to all who came and made it a great day. We had perfect weather and I will also say a special thankyou to my lovely wife for all her hard work with the food and for being a good sport in spending an entire day around a group of blokes all talking about audio. 10
