It's been a while since last update. There have been a few iterations of Line Magnetic gear coming through to test & run in. Some photos below..

LM-812 Iconic speakers running from LM-219iA integrated amplifier (845 tubes).

LM-812 Iconic speakers running from AS-128 mono block amplifiers (212 tubes) fed by matching LM-129 Preamplifier. Such a BIG sound!

Current arrangement - back to my Zu Audio Omen Def speakers running from the AS-125 integrated amplifier with Elrog 211 tubes installed. There is also a Wilson Benesch Torus sub in the corner. I'm now waiting on a Kuzma 12 inch arm to complete the TT setup - which should arrive this week!

Lovely! May I ask if you tried other 211 tubes in your AS-125 (such as Audio Note, Psvane T series or ACME), and if the Elrog (expensive, also I believe there are two different ones, but not sure) is worth it in your opinion? Thanks!

Thanks David. I've only tried Shuguang 211 tubes prior to the Elrogs.

However, I have tried the Psvane T series and ACME 845 tubes against the Elrog ER845 and found such a difference that I ended up becoming the Australian distributor for them!

I definitely think they are worth the asking price when adding to the comparison their transparent manufacturing, testing and matching process - the 12 month replacement warranty for a matched pair should also be considered.

I hope this helps. 👍

To avoid confusion (no offense, I'm easily confused…), you preferred the Elrog and decided to become the Australian distributor for them, not Psvane?

I'm assuming the Shuguang are the stock tubes that came with the amp?

Also, did you roll other tubes in the AS-125, e.g. the 12AX7 and 6SN7? If so, could you detect something like an order of relevance in which you'd recommend rolling them?

And I agree, I'm convinced the view adds to the experience of listening to the system, very nice!!

Thanks!

Yes - preferred the Elrog product by a good margin.

Yes - Shuguang came with the amp.

Yes - I changed out the 12AX7 and 6SN7 at the same time to a pack of Electroharmonics gold pins, which was an improvement over standard. If I was to recommend an order for these, I would change the 12AX7 first.

Thanks again. Hope you're enjoying the Swiss summer!

Thanks for your input, much appreciated!

The summer so far has been the weirdest in recent memory, wet, hail, sometimes hot and humid, not the weather we're used to at all… 🤧

Greetings from Switzerland, David.

It just keeps getting better here this "summer". We are having a Perth winters day here in Zurich today.  @acousticsguru

Cam, your system and view have certainly changed since when I visited your previous home when you had the Duntechs, and my old AR XA turntable.

So the settling of gear has been thrown into disarray! This monster arrived today - very lucky to have the opportunity to obtain this piece. Line Magnetic's VT-805A, no longer in production. It absolutely dwarfs the AS-125!

A little update is due. The Line Magnetic journey continues. LM-3 Alnico version speakers, driven by LM-128 212 tube monos and AS-133 line stage preamplifier.

So they turned up in a few crates..

IMG_2599.thumb.jpeg.875deca9b3a33ef900c579264c0f29a6.jpeg

They took quite a bit of lifting and assembly to get into place, so on day one, I was too tired to setup the LM-128 mono blocks and ran them from the VT-805A, which did a Stella job!

Covers off..

The next day it was time for the big guns..

IMG_2618.thumb.jpeg.c91558ec1904b9a6e7ef33eb6264402b.jpeg

This photo properly shows just how big the VT-805A amplifier is!

Twilight glows ensue..

IMG_2630.thumb.jpeg.a696dd42d863ac2007d9ed86f00e2811.jpeg

The sound is big and these speakers are clearly too big for the room, but somehow they work. Unfortunately the bass is a little hidden due to my listening position relative to the speakers as I had to move them out into the room quite a bit to get them to fit, but that aside - these things are quite special.

I can't wait to take this gear to the Melbourne hifi show to share it with everyone!

A few things have changed since my last post... I've discontinued the Line Magnetic partnership, gotten rid of all their equipment and moved on to an "end game" tube system that I've coveted for a long time. I know this journey is never completely finished, but I'm done for now.

So, the final setup is:

Kuzma TT with Phasemation cartridge

RCM phono stage

Auralic server/streamer

AM DAC/1

AM RT-3 preamp

AM 833S amplifiers

Wilson Benesch Torus sub/amp

Shunyata Research Hydra feeding the amplifiers

PSAudio P10 feeding the preamp and sources

Zu Audio Omen Def with tweeter upgrade

All held up by Esthetica racks made to order from @Hydrology

I've also added some old Amperex Bugle Boy and RCA tubes to the mix and listening to 60 year old is pretty special.

Some photos as no post is complete without something to look at...

Room and photos always look fantastic. What's in the corner? It looks like a strange up firing sub?

After a while away, I'm getting back into this stuff. Dragged out the LM monos and Elrog/Emission Labs tube combination this morning for some fun. Different to the 833/KT150 combination, though need to spend more time with it to pin it down as to what those differences are.

Anyway, good to be back listening to the system again. It's been sitting there ignored for a while!
