Volunteer Kazz Posted November 10, 2015 Volunteer Posted November 10, 2015 I don't think I've mentioned this one here, but have in the 'Currently Spinning' thread (which if you don't already read weekly, you should). Elton John - Greatest Hits LP UK (cat # DJLPH.442) on translucent red/purple wax although you won't notice this unless you hold it up to a strong light. Just amazing sound quality for a compilation. If you have poo-poohed EJ lately because he's a spent force, listen to this to be reminded why in the 70's, the guy was King (and Queen!!!) I have AUS, Jap and UK pressings of this, and they are all fantastic - but go the UK one for aural nirvana. I just recently got this very release and you're right it is brilliant, also have a UK first pressing of PF - The Wall on the way which I am hoping will be at the top of my list as well. 1

Chigurh Posted December 3, 2015 Posted December 3, 2015 I don't listen to blues much these days but I put this on today and the SQ blew me away. The Robert Cray Band - Don't be afraid of the dark. Australian pressing cat. # 834 923-1 5
Fair Play Posted December 3, 2015 Posted December 3, 2015 Just wondering if anyone has this or has heard it? I heard a live band playing one of the songs from this album recently and really liked it so now chasing one. Where would it rate I think terms of production, sound quality etc?

AFAIK, Michael Fremer rates it highly too... http://www.discogs.com/Herbie-Hancock-Head-Hunters/release/7495983 Cheers, Leigh 1
ferchersan Posted December 3, 2015 Posted December 3, 2015 I gave this a spin earlier in the week. It's not really my cuppa tea, but it sounded so good that I played both sides. Mine is the Australian LP, which has the same catalogue number as the U.S. release 25639-1. Having a quick squizz on discogs shows 25 copies available, starting at $2. While it isn't the *best* sounding LP I own, it is worth some consideration at that price. Cheers, Leigh Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 2

Vinyl Gourmet Posted December 3, 2015 Posted December 3, 2015 I don't have an original pressing to compare it with... I'll take your word for it! Cheers, Leigh Thanks Leigh I did compare this new reissue with the original USA first pressing, and with a Japanese pressing that I like very much (18AP 2179 CBS Sony Japan 1981), this Japanese pressing was my preferred version until the new Analogue Productions came out, actually they sound very close, both with all the resolution and bass energy that is not so great on the original USA pressing, but the new AP sounds even better with better defined transients and increased dynamic range (by the way, as a side note... I'm usually not a fan of Japanese pressings, they rarely had access to Master Tapes and their EQ tastes were usually not the best in terms of fidelity, but this one I mentioned above is an exception, it sounds really good) 2

Vinyl Gourmet Posted December 3, 2015 Posted December 3, 2015 Talking about Instagram, you probably saw my latest photo from Heart Dreamboat Annie, I was just playing that an hour ago... amazing album, truly great sound (original US pressing with Kendun matrix), highly recommended! 2
JPete9 Posted December 3, 2015 Posted December 3, 2015 (edited) I just received a NM+ copy from Germany of P.I.L - Album - i am floored by how nice it sounds. Its motivating me to buy a nicer/MC cart. I have a USA NM+ Beastie Boys Licensed to Ill on the way. I am pretty excited, love this album and its widely regarded to sound fantastic! soundfan Posted December 4, 2015 Posted December 4, 2015 No such thing as a best sounding record in my collection, but these are right up there in regards to pressing quality and sound. 1
zenikoy Posted January 13, 2016 Posted January 13, 2016 Another $1 record. Mint pressed in Japan Sheffield Labs direct to disc recording from 1977. Is it possible for vinyl to sound any better than this?

The amazing thing is, the remastered CD is just as good..........unlike most of his other albums. 1
phil.spr Posted January 14, 2016 Posted January 14, 2016 the album The Original Fleetwood Mac is one of my favourites but in terms of sounding amazing the track First Train Home blows my mind every time I hear it, something about the tone of Peter Greens guitar on it just makes my hair stand on end Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk 2
rockpig Posted January 15, 2016 Posted January 15, 2016 Supertramp - Crime Of The Century the Speakers Corner pressing. I have various LPs that sound great for particular reasons, but this one ticks the most boxes for me. Expansive use of dynamics Great variety of sounds/instruments Listening experience is totally engaging for the entire album (never boring) Full range audio, nice highs, engaging mids and whopping lows My system seems to like this record I had only ever heard this album on CD and it was OK but when I got this vinyl pressing it became magical. 5
NordicNorm Posted January 16, 2016 Posted January 16, 2016 I have quite a few very well recorded albums but my all time favourite is Rob McConnell and the Boss Brass - Big Band Jazz 2 LP Direct-to-Disk For those who like big band music, Canadian Rob McConnell's band always delivers. Rob believed in recording in one take so had his band rehearse that way. They did a few direct-to-disk LPs but this one is stellar! Mel Tormé stumbled upon one of their albums in his local vinyl shop. After listening to it, he contacted McConnell and they recorded an album together (http://www.discogs.com/Mel-Torm%C3%A9-Rob-McConnell-And-The-Boss-Brass-Mel-Torm%C3%A9-Rob-McConnell-And-The-Boss-Brass/release/1679031).
