Caravan Armageddon

Featured Replies

Hi guys, just thought I'd share with you my newly completed system in my home which is a 25 foot Caravan, with a deck built outside for the annex. Due to some unfortunate life changing events in 2010, I had to sell my house, and bought the caravan for a place to stay, and believe it or not, was one of the best decisions I've ever made, financially and lifestyle. And no, I don't live in a caranvan park, but on the driveway of a home in a very very nice part of Canberra.

Ok, the system Consists of:

Marantz AV 8801 pre/processor

3x Rotel RB -1581 Mono Block power amps (LCR)

Rotel RB-1552 power amp for the rears

Rel T9 Subwoofer

Chord Hugo DAC

Isotek Gii Sigmas Power Conditioner and a Isotek Polaris power board

Cambridge Audio AZUR BD-752 Blu-Ray Player

Bluesound Node Hi-Res Music Server

Apple TV

Sony KDL42w800b 3D Tv

Bowers&Wilkins 805's as mains

Bowers&Wilkins CM Center 2 Center Channel

Bowers&Wilkins CM1's as rears

And a variety of Van Den Hul/Chord/Wire World Cables throughout

This system in the space it is in can be rather brutal, brutal in a good way, and thanks to the help from Audyssey, it's works well in the space, and at the same time, can be so eloquent.

The only problem atm, is that one of my 805's developed harmonic distortion in its tweeter the second day I had them, so they both went back for service and a checkup, but the night I had them was sublime 😠so my CM1's are in their place up front till they return, but needless to say, with the electronics running them, the CM1's are doing ok lol.

Wow great use of space, I like it.  :)

Need to show my 25yo son tonight, maybe I can get him out of the house and into a caravan.   :D

In the annex there's another system, that consists of:

Yamaha RX-Z9

Humax PVR

Toshiba DVD-RW Recorder D-R1

Sony PS3

Digitel HD 3300 STB

Sony KDL42w800b 3DTV

Def Tech CLR 1000 Center Channel

Def Tech BP1 as mains

Acoustic Energy sub 12" (can't remember the model Number)

And inside the van, at the front, there's a Sony KDL32w700b Telly.

Lol, I needed to fit in a 5.1 system somehow...............

And I'm lucky that the van I have has a unique floor space, a system like this can't be put into the majority of modern caravans. It's a 2010 model Jayco.

wow amazing setup ! :)

and that you have two systems let alone one, down well to fit in ! great use of space

Looks fantastic @@Sime, you appear to have weathered your personal storm and come out of it into a good place. Well done. Northside or Southside btw?

Well done. Northside or Southside btw?

both!!...its mobile LoL

theres a similar set up deep in the forest behind Crookwell/Goulburn that consists of a series of old railway carriages joined together in a H shape and totally self sufficient with water tanks, solar powered and battery back-ups, however even though its a permanent fixture on the property, it can easily be moved to another location if needed..brilliant idea and set-up

if you saw its bush setting you wouldnt want to move it anywhere

Any idea what the system consists of?

by similar i meant permanent mobile living, although the Crookwell one isnt mobile, it is a similar lifestyle

nothing as elaborate as yours, cant say i paid much attention to the sound system, the surroundings and set-up took all my attention

edit: if this is your caravan, i wonder what the house is like

I could easily live is a train carriage setup like that.

I guess living in a Cold, Canbarian Caravan you can get away with stacking amps like that.

Cold, nah, covered pergola and 5kw of heating installed, cosy as

And on hot days, there's a fan in the room the amps are in, keeping the air circulating, so they don't ever get to warm.

And also, I put a bit of thought into thire placement in the stacks, the two left and right bottom amps are the main channel amps, that are on all day, and the ones used for whatching movies are on top of those, and they'd be on only for a few hours a time while watching a movie, and that's prolly one two to three times a week.

Just love where some gear ends up....Fantastic and thanks for sharing....

25ft w/annex in a town !?  You lucky bastard.  I was reduced to a leaky 12ft in a field. Still had a 'sound and vision' wall at one end once I got electricity.  Got a house now tho  : )

Someone's going to post about living in a tent with valve monoblocks next.

Amazing where some expensive gear ends up!!! :thumb:

Well my annex is technically a tent, and there's a Yammy Z9 in there, and that wasn't cheap in its day

Reminds me of my 8" tall Acoustats in the 8m x 2.7m loung/kitchen/bedroom, that I ended up in after my similar "fall from grace" ... lol

Cheers

We lived in a shed for 12 months in 2009 and loved it. :)

Totally agree, once we eventually aquire the house I'm parked at, I'll still stay in the van, it's nicer than the house.

Nice work. My initial thought was, what happens when you move the thing... but now I realise it is parked permanently for now. One of my mates just bought an old house on the back of a flatbed truck that he now has parked in a paddock as a holiday house. Love the idea

True, I've never been happier since I moved into it, and we only pay $200 rent a fortnight, no rate bills.

Cheap way of life, and that's how I could have acquired most of that gear inside it in just over two months. Only big cash injection was the sale of a 2012 car to help.

  • 1 month later...

All finished :)
