Off the grog!!

Featured Replies

I usually have a stubbie of stout (Coopers) most evenings, before dinner. I can leave it at that and don't need anymore. I guess we all feel for those guys who have 'issues' with grog. This is a great thread.

Jake, Shaky, Blybo and Pops 110..and me. :)

Five of us so far.

Tubey makes us six.

I don't have any issues with grog at all.

I love the stuff. I don't know how they do it for the price. Dead subs. King browns. Ales. Lagers. Dark. Bright. Phlegmcutters. Crack a few. Blow the froth off a couple. Beer makes you feel the way you ought to feel without beer.

it just isn't good for me at the current rate. :(

Well done Daz. Wish you all the luck mate. You will look, think and feel better for it.

Ive been off the cigs for 4 months now and its hard for sure but I know its the best for me and for my future and wont be going back :D

Fantastic. It's great to taste stuff again eh?? Smell things again.

So remind me again how this "membership" works? I'm only planning on taking baby steps at this stage so I'm thinking 3 dry days in a row and maybe work up to 4-5. One things for sure though I ain't depriving myself on w/e's

I'd be in except that I know I'm gonna buckle this Saturday. :party

I went to  Pub Trivia  last night and on the way home I realised I had only drunk water all night. Pretty boring I know but some nights I just don't get in the mood to drink alcohol. Good for me, bad for the pub I suppose.

@@Tubularbells, take things easy if you must. You'll still get somewhere in the right direction even with small, baby steps. Reckon we'll all be going at our own speed anyway. . But don't be scared to post up here (or even a pm) if you need a chat to get some support. The weekend will be the hardest time for a lot of us, me included. Telling the guys at work on Friday No I don't want an afterwork beer or two with them , as well as Knowing I'll miss walking into bottle heaven (Dans) shortly after those couple for more for myself on Friday will be when it hits home for me I reckon.

Wrong quote, but may the force be with you....on Saturday ;)

Noisy horrible mind. it gets very powerful as we age. Maybe some stillness meditation or some ASMR stuff through the headphones off Youtube etc Ian? Read a book for a while etc, get that mind calmed.

@@Tubularbells you do whatever works but feel free to share whats happening to you, on here. I think it will be great and don't forget how many lurkers are also probably reading this, going through the same issues. Hopefully as you feel the benefit, it will be easier and you'll chase it less. Maybe.

Do you like how I just made you a member, haha, we had our way with you, membership wise!!

I will be off the grog on the weekend as that's the only time I drink, but as I have said, I'll demolish a carton easily and feel remote until Tuesday.

..............burp!

........what?

@ - What can you do for insomnia? Does ambient stuff help, maybe? I got a bunch of things over the past year or so for the bride to use in her massage/beauty business, and the customers seem to nod off. Not the sound of whales, angels, or kittens in the bath either. (She doesn't offer happy endings.)

It should be better once off the smokes, they are a bad stimulant for me.

Have tried lots of stuff but the above will help the most.

Cheers anyway.

No beer taken today. Certainly better for wear after a few lime ice waters, mmmm no hangover tomorrow, nice.

The mind frame to adopt is one of, "I'm not a drinker", not "I'm an ex-drinker". It is an important difference.

One of my favourite benefits of this state is when you find yourself in a queue for random breath testing: "When was your last alcoholic drink." "May, 2007."

Hi "@Darren69"

I wish you well with your efforts.  Changing a lifestyle is always difficult but the rewards can be very favourable.  With respect to myfitnesspal, it is only a tool which assists you to hopefully reach your goals.  Make those goals realistic, I suggest weight loss goal of no more than 0.5Kg per week.  Make sure you enter accurate data, how much exercise is in your lifestyle now not how much you expect it to be.  So if you go for a walk once a day I'd say activity level is somewhere between sedentary and lightly active.  What you do on top of that on a daily basis is one of your goals.  Be very accurate as to how much you eat/what you eat - the tool is only as good as the information fed(no pun) to it.  If you don't know the breakdown of the meal you are eating and it has a bar-code use the reader - it works a lot.  Failing that start building your own d/base in recipes and meals - it takes time but it does help in the long run and remember this project is probably for life.

I started a 14months ago and I've lost 17Kg and my goal is about another 5-8Kg to get me down to ~77Kg.  I've realised the 1st 15Kg were the easiest, the last 10 are getting harder.

I've now been diagnosed with a DVT and I'm on blood thinners for 3-4months with an additional complication of expected prostate surgery somewhere in the middle of this.  This puts my goals much harder to reach or at least stretches the expected time-line out.

I've notified you via MFP - see how we go at keeping the weight down and other issues.

Good luck

Regards

Frank

Well I've lost 0.8kg yesterday through exercise, no grog and a low carb diet. Still had an evening munchie attack and had a peanut butter sandwich but without using my fitness pal, I know I was still way under what would of been a 2300 calorie intake limit, based on the exercise. Some of that weight loss will be fluid, I always fluctuate heaps due to cycling being a sport where it is often hard to know how hard you are working as the breeze keeps you relatively dry and comfortable.

For anybody looking for a drink replacement... A Sodastream and some Cottees "no added sugar" cordial is great. I have one at work and it's a low sugar way to get some flavor, I hate plain water except when riding. A t home I buy Coles brand mineral water to mix with the same cordial, lemon flavor is the lowest calorie one and I reckon I only make it half strength anyway, a spritzer if you will...

I have been fluctuating all day. I better open a window.

Very good point, but as it seems that the mind will grab onto negatives (wording) more easy than a positive.

So I'll say that a better wording is "I'm a non drinker"

Normal person's weight will fluctuate around 1 to 2kgs a day, without exercise, without fasting or dieting. If your weighing yourself each day your really wasting your time, save it up for a weekly weigh in which is more conclusive.

Also your body will be burning calories up for up to 3 hours  after exercise so your body is still munching away at that fat your carrying that's yet another reason not to bother weighing yourself each day.

So day 3 for me, on the way home anfd I know this is gonna be the hardest day yet (can feel it in my bones...lol) craving for a beer something fierce!

Question is, will I buckle under pressure?
