Shooosh...I've had no beer for a week!

I've racked up 70k's in walks/jogs since last Sat and half hour workouts each day in my seriously cold pool and I'm .6 of a kg from my goal which is to get below 100kg. I was the same weight as Rantan 2 and a bit years ago but I'm a bit taller than him I think.

I have had wine this week though and I'm about to have another as I just ate a really big octopus(as you do) and some pinot gris is in order.

No red meat, just fish/scallops/prawns and more ramen than you can poke Narutu atramen_by_raidenss-d4cx7t4.jpg.

@JukKluk2  hope your feeling betterJK

What are you doing on this thread @@Luc ??

Jeez - no beer for a week, what will power!!

Only wine, well that doesn't count especially if it's White!  ;)

Under a 100kg!!??? - might be hard to recognize you with one or two less chins the next time I see you!  :D

:thumb:

Think no one will find you over here you traitor.

If you wanted to get under 100kg you could of lopped off a leg and kept boozing.

No wonder the on the grog thread has gone stale.

I have found that social- circumstances are keeping me at 95 kg, haha.

I live in an alcohol culture. :D

Pretty sure things will be back to normal after this week, would be nice to be back to 94kg.

Lee, excellent stuff.

Hey @@Darren69, how did this week's weigh in go?

  • Author

Still @ 95kg @@JukKluk2 , thanks for asking, am hoping to start slowly slipping back down to 94 kg this week. I forgot to post.

Was a beautiful run-wheeze-walk-run this morning, 9 deg here and clear as a bell!!

How are you travelling? Back at work yet?

Back to work next Monday @@Darren69. You can imagine just how much I am looking forward to that can't you?

  • Author

Heehee, turn that frown upside down!

Seriously, I hope you are feeling better.

Yes, much better, I would just rather not be going back to work next week. But, hey, after the first week I'm sure it will soon become thesame old, same old.

After the first hour. :P

will power !

whether its grog or eating or exercise for that matter..am finding thats all the key.

this morning was looking at the weather...ooh a bit chill...oh I have a touch of a sore throat...should I go for a jog ...could think of all the reasons why not...in the end pushed myself out the door. surely do more good than harm..

one hour ...rather slow jog later...feel much better for it.

oh and as far as other cravings go...caved on seeing cadbury GOLD rum and raisin on special while shopping in coles...that was 2 days ago and half a block later :D

I think it was that half a block that pushed me out the door ! so cravings can be used as driving force...

anyways before the jog I was pleased to see in anycase am closer to 89kg ...only 200gm to go...100gm of it no doubt is the chocolate :D

been staying away the grog. a couple of glasses of red sat night on the weekend and that it :)

Am the same Al!

God, it's so cosy and warm in bed.

Force myself to get vertical. I find once the sheets are thrown back and the face washed, am right to go.

Yep, coming around the corner onto the home stretch an hour later with the sun coming up behind me and looking forward to a nice brekky, am always feeling great.

We are funny creatures.

Nice going everyone :)

@ :) al I prefer to call it "want power", not that I have any of lately

I wanton exercise badly :D

OK, i just looked that word up  :o  and now retract this above post

Well done everyone could well be over the "hump" or hard bits now with a new routine.

Not drinking, stopping, has its benefits, better memory and mental agility is most apparent, with nicer mornings and appreciation for it. Going to bed earlier, not so pre occupied with drinking.

Desire to eat better and work harder, more tolerance for what life throws at us mortals, a tiny story  :)

Wife's car clapped out on Friday, clanking engine, buggered, big $$$$ (in pouring rain) which meant closing a busy day's trade at the shop for a rescue, while my work bus is at the bodyworks for a hit and run, 4 months ago, first time I've had a car at bodyworks, years. Got a taxi then limped the "clanker" home (Taxi was $130). Got up early, dawn service for my 8 y/o and amazingly found a 1 owner, toyota 93 corolla auto on way home, really low K's in mint condition off an old couple, cheeeeap. Others were pulling up pulling their wallets out while the deal was completed, it's freshly serviced, new tiers and brakes :D brought back memories to drive it, cool.
Didn't loose it once, didn't worry about it, just did it and WON,, HOORAY. Only have to wreck the ckanker now, which is fun.

None of this "adventure" would have been realized if I was still drinking, things would have been very different, and not so nice.

Anyway, different me, just better and a brain to realise it. You guys were my inspiration.

@JKK2 doing some hard yards there, wish you well.

Yes, the same, people don't stress me at work as much anymore etc.

Still at 100.3 but walk/shuffle/jog has increased to 11ks in 1.22. and I have a vague-ish idea I might be able to eventually do 21ks which is a half marathon distance although I reckon mine would count for more as there is hardly a flat bit of ground on my route through hills and the narrow lanes up this way.

I drove it yesterday to log the distance I need and can't quite believe just how far 10.5 kilometres is and then you have to turn around and go back! :(

Had four beers this week so I'd better go back to the other thread for awhile. :o

Tossing up whether to go to a sports physio and get checked out as I'm no spring chicken( 60 is getting close ) and I don't want to be buggering up my legs or something after a life of indolence and sloth.

What do you runners/joggers/walkers here think?

I'm trying to stay on the grass verges but it's hard, as many places are unslashed and overgrown so you have to get on the bitumen and a friend says that's no good for your knees or heels. Running round and round a oval is not on either, I'd rather watch paint dry than do that.

I'm on no medication at all(except  selective Coopers liquid PMU taken on direction) no diabetes or high blood pressure or cholesterol or anything else so I don't think I have to worry too much about upsetting my metabolism

All advice welcome :)

luc I have been part of orienteering groups and theres guys there all ages running all sorts of distances and classes.

how often are you running this sort of distance ?

think you mentioned some time before old injuries. for me was a case of building strength back with walking and bike riding before running. and also not running till had driven my weight down enough otherwise would put too much load on joints etc.

as far as reduce load of jarring etc while running, instead of wearing fancy shorts and tops, I have always put my money into best runners my money can buy, which are the basics gel kayanos after 10+ years and on my 3rd pair of those I wouldn't buy anything else. I once ran on a pair of nike air's for a change returned them the next day could really notice the difference :)

definitely visit the sports physio for peace of mind.

if your shoes have done more than 600 km, get a new pair.  Use the old ones for other exercise, but not running on hard surfaces (certainly not runs over 10 km).

Do plenty of recovery/stretching and use ice where sore.  I frozen water bottle and/or an old bag of frozen peas are both very handy.  Using a tennis ball (or lacrosse ball) is very good for rubbing/massaging sore areas.  Don't be scared to use compression tights and/or socks for recovery during the day.

You won't hurt your legs/hips if you run properly and wear good shoes, and listen to your body.  You will end up with worse ailments to your body if you don't do this exercise.  It is your choice.  PS  develop a taste for water.

I went to Athletes Foot and told them I was running-walking-wheezing on the bitumen for 7.5km's in my Mack workboots.

After the lady recovered, she kitted me out with Asics runners meant for hard surfaces. It's much easier now, hahaa!!

My ankles like the bitumen better than the uneven surfaces that are off to the side but that's just me and if I get a bit of a twinge somewhere as my running gets more and the walking gets less, well I take it easy maybe the next day etc and slowly build.

Yes, @@Luc. Get checked out. It's important.

Into my third year of running, one of the most important lessons I have learned is not to run in worn running shoes. They may look OK but they all wear out the cushioning midsole that you can't see. All brands are the same. Don't believe the hype.

If you want to run without putting unnecessary pressure on your joints, then replace your shoes at 600km, even if they still look new. I go through three pairs a year and it should probably be four. When you buy the new ones, wear one old and one new and walk around. You will quickly feel the difference and know the cost is justified.

@@Luc stick to the treadmill on low speed sucking the froth while watching tele - that's all the training you're gonna need for when I'm up there in a few weeks!!

Your dedication doesn't impress me one iota, I see through your shallow motives - to impress me with your new "ripped" physique!

Sorry everyone - back on topic!
