Calling all tea drinkers!

Featured Replies

I have just spent 2.5 days in HongKong Where I enjoyed the best Cantonise food I have ever had, a real eye opener and also the tea that came with the meals was generaly Jasmine Tea, In one restaurant the waiter sugested I try some Fine tea which came in a glass tea pot with what looked like a whole flower bud submerged in the pot arround 3 inches in size which seemed to have hint of jasmine tea about it this was also very nice, I absolitly loved HongKong I had great time sampling the local food, I only saw one small audio shop the whole time I was there.

although i am drinking peppermint tea right now, the best tea i can recommend is french earl grey. its quite lovely you can buy it at T2 but its cheaper (and exactly the same) if you get it from tea leaves in sassafras (mt dandenong) http://www.tealeaves.com.au/ if you cant get there, order online and they will ship to you.

The missus has informed me that we too use to drink Madura, (dementia again:confused:) but it became too expensive for us because we do have a lot of Tea drinking visitors. The Nerada we now drink also comes from Queensland.

I am on the Nerada now, good stuff.

Interestingly enough, I can state categorically that Nerada buy many many tonnes of tea in Sri Lanka every year and ship it to their packaging plant in Australia for domestic use

Our standard tipple is Jasmine tea, the small pearl variety. I also like Oolong ginseng and the Rosebud teas for variety. Put some tea in a metal sieve (preferably one about 4 cm deep ), pour a little boiling water over to clean and open the tea (into the sink) then place sieve into cup and fill with water. About 20 seconds later tea is ready. Retain tea in sieve, can be used for about 5 cups, however discard after about 12 hours if not already fully used.

These days I drink about 2 coffees a day and at least 5 cups of tea.

As a total break-out, Lapsang Souchong with fresh lemon, 2 flat spoons of sugar and a generous swig of Chivas hits the spot. :P

Mostly Coffee drinker here, Though

Here was I thinking all great tea, green that is, Has a wee dram from the bottle Johnie added to the cup .

Import tea at domestic prices I like it! :P

Nerada clearly state on their website that some of their teas are imported so there is no issue there. The only issue would be if someone thought their biggest selling tea which is "Original Australian Grown Nerada Tea" was in fact imported! This would clearly be in breach of packaging and labelling laws and would be highly unlikely due to the possibility of massive fines and loss of customer goodwill!

I'm sure that no Company would ever mislead consumers

The missus and I are just about to have our after dinner Cuppa of Nerada pot tea. Have to use the tea cosy- it's bloody cold here.

You know Grumps, you could never say "Grumpy is cosy sitting in front of the fire with his missus drinking...a short black". It just wouldn't work, would it?

Ah yes, there's a lot to be said for a cuppa.

And don't say anything about a 'flat white' - that can be a touchy area, too...

cheers

Very nice. We will get those coffee nuts (or is it those coffee beans?) off their poison yet!! And maybe the more traditional Oz tea drinkers may give the Chinese teas a go at some stage.

Ok, so I love trad aussie tea and things like Earle grey and English breakfast, what else should I try?

Ah, a challenge!!

Perhaps look for a proper jasmine tea to start, as it will most probably be a familiar taste. But those tea bags are a pale imitation of the real thing. For example (don't know the site, just googled for a reasonable description, http://www.tenren.com/pearljasmine.html

Perhaps move on to the oolongs.

And then puer teas http://www.pu-erhtea.com/Pu-erhTea.htm (also just a google search for an example). There are fermented and nonfermented types. I prefer the nonfermented.

But, as with all good things there is a process to learn to make a good tea. Not at all difficult, but still a process.

Anyway, that's enough to start you if you are interested.

By the way, nothing wrong with those teas...

Well I am planning on getting a pot tomorrow and a strainer so I might have to find T2 here in melbourne if we have one.

There is another tea I do like it starts as a ball and then turns into leaves and for the life of me I can remember what it is called. Tummy.

My tea pot is a Baccarat Stainless steal, soft touch handle, in-built strainer-tea holder model. I'd take a pic, but it's very used. Just doesn't seem right to clean it thoroughly. We soak it overnight every night.

Any suggestions as to where to get a good pot from? T2 as well?
