For Sale: No pics,not interested.

Featured Replies

It's been mentioned before, this topic heading, and I really don't understand people's reluctance to post actual pictures of the gear they've put in the Classifieds.

I don't want to google your speakers, your whatevers, I wont to look at the actual item that you've got for sale, I honestly don't care if it's brand new in box never been opened...I want to see it in situ at your place. I don't care if it's packed away all snug and tight and ready for transport, you should of taken pics before you packed it. no I don't want to drive around to your place(yet) and look at it/test it(yet).

I want to see the back of them, the top, the sides, the innards(if possible)...in short I want to see as much as could reasonably be expected.

If one or two crappy fuzzy phone snaps is all you reckon your kit deserves  then I kinda think that lack of interest and detail might well show up in the actual kit so I'm not curious unless it's a ridiculously priced throw away get rid of quickly bit of kit and they dont happen very often.

If your asking serious money then pics are required.

No pics? I'm not interested.

This is just me, MPOV. so don't get your knickers in a knot if your from the no pics camp.

Well, it's not every day that I'm in complete agreement with Luc, but this is one of those days.

If it's worth selling then it's worth actually trying to sell it and in internet land a picture really is worth a thousand words.

I am in total agreement. Why not post up the photos rather than say "Photos emailed upon request"

no pictures to me just tell me theres

1. no way to know the things even exist. BS detecter goes up..this could be a scam...

2. no way to know and see the physical condition of the actual item. could have dents and scratches and have been pulled behind a car or rolled down a set of stairs for all I know.

3. something to hide...

4. the seller cant be bothered, so why would I want to be bothered dealing with someone like that...

agree...no decent pics...no interest from me...

Would you accept less, I'm prepared to do a sketch ; )

An artistic impression?

Would you accept less, I'm prepared to do sketch ; )

In that case you had best add some sort of disclaimer in the text.

Something like:  "NB, the 6 elephants depicted in the background of this sketch are not included in the price listed for this pair of headphones."

Edited by Cafad

I'm happy to view ads where the seller substitutes pictures of Salma for their equipment!

An artistic impression?

Yes and there will be interpretive dance to accompany the sketch.

....are you inviting us upstairs to see your etchings?

I agree 100%.

It may be my subjective observation but the quality of ads on SNA has been in decline for some time.  While many ads are excellently presented, a lot (perhaps the majority) aren't.

Fuzzy photos taken in half-light, usually of the front only, or even worse - 'photos coming later' (and they never do).

What bugs me most of all is the lack of information provided for many items: how old is it, what series/version, how many owners, is original documentation available - all this information is useful to a potential buyer.

I think many sellers think buyers are prepared to Google all night - well they're not.  Just think about it - the secondhand the hi fi market has been depressed for some time. Many items (especially in the upper price brackets) are being sold for ridiculously low prices, but's that's the market.

Would YOU buy this item based on the information provided?

And my pet hate: the manufacturer's blurb presented as 'information'.

@@Luc If you're gonna be giving us all lectures, pal, at least have the decency of looking us in the eye and posting an actual pic of yourself.

Too chicken to post a pic, eh?

You sort of alluded to it, but my pet hate is phone pics. In some cases they are worse than no pics at all.

@@Luc

Looking at your pic. Did the handbrake get a bit aggressive sucking your toe?

There was a time when a member has something for sale ,you could find the early post of when the member bought the item with pictures. The For Sale is now used like Gum Tree for anyone to sell or scam.I would prefer seller to have 50 posts before they get to see the For Sale section like on the Steve Hoffman site..At least you would get rid of the scammers.

Also Im happy with a front picture and link.

Enuff of me.

Couldn't agree with @@bronal more.

I do realise that many members selling stuff are 2 to 5 post sellers and more than likely joined simply to try and post their kit in the classifieds. I don't think any member here would be against them being able to do so as it does widen the pool of items available but also @@Stump mentions a different POV. I'm kinda easy either way, I'd just like to see pics. If the seller doesn't supply them I'm not interested, simple as that.

A few recent sellers of headphones have posted links to their reputations over at head-fi sites;I think that's great, they are making an effort to get it out there that they are indeed genuine.

I don't think @@Marc needs to do anything as far as guidelines go as people like me are not going to buy or possibly elicit any interest if we can't see what it is they are selling.
