Can you buy stocks in Aussie broadband?

Been with Internode forever.

Time for a change.

I’m with internode but haven’t been notified of anything

Is there something written about it?

Everyone - what are your recommendations for best email account providers?  I have seen some mentioned, but mentioning and recommending are not the same thing.

I have used gmail for quite a while.  Prefer them to hotmail.  I am interested what others say as well, as I have shuffled all my iinet mail to them in preparation to moving providers.  I want to stay ISP independent in future.

Will probably do nothing and let it lapse and join up with Telstra

So, out of the frying pan and into the fire eh? Telstra is terrible, Aussie Broadband all the way.

Our internet is with Telstra

Now that I am being forced to think about it only our email address is with Internode which I didn’t change after we changed suppliers

I don’t understand enough about technology to offer an opinion as to the quality of Telstra

A bit like asking me hear the difference between one set of cables and another 😄

I am not a binary /coder/tech wizz either, just a seeker of reliable internet which AB delivers in spades. Still, If you are happy with Telstra that's fine. Obviously I didn't know that prior to posting.

I was just going on the basis of various horror stories of some friends and family, but I am chuffed it works well for you.

I've been following this topic with interest, as I've been an iiNet customer for over 20 years.

I've yet to decide what course of action to take, as I suspect that other ISPs are following iiNet's decision closely, and we may be seeing the start of a trend (perhaps evidenced by Internode's decision also to ditch its email service).  I wouldn't have thought that the provision of webmail services was particularly burdensome or costly, as the technology appears to have matured a long time ago.  It also offers customers a 'one stop shop' that people like me appreciate.  Perhaps someone working in this area can shed some light on what is going on?

I currently pay iiNet $79.99 a month for a bundled internet, webmail and land line service.  Presumably some of that is charged towards my webmail service - perhaps $10 to 15?  I wonder whether the cost of my plan will be reduced when iiNet ceases to subsidise The Messaging Company in 2024.  I suspect not.

I believe iiNet own Internode

Correct and TPG owns both IIRC.

I used to be with ihug, then iiNet many years ago but ditched them when something changed, they got sold I think.

I have used Mate Communicate for quite a few years for internet and mobile phone. They are Melbourne based and just easy to deal with. But they don't do email either.

I actually use a German company for email called Mailbox.org. They are reliable and very privacy focussed. I never get any spam through.  It can be a little slower to load messages but I'm happy with them.  One Euro per month.

I could never get at ease with companies that offer a "free" email service.  But I am probably more cautious than the average user.

Yet you are happy to use a company that isn't subject to Australian privacy laws.

That's the problem I have with gmail and Hotmail.

That's a good point but I'm of the belief European laws meet or exceed Australian. They are definitely better than US.

Try looking at proton mail.

Swiss based encrypted.

Think they have a free service and paid with more options and mail boxes.

I saw them mentioned as one of the best free email services but had no need then.

Signed up this evening to give it a try.

I checked with a friend who has proton mail.

He is generally happy with it but pointed out that the free service is partially encrypted only.  Also, certain sites, particularly those in the US, do not recognise proton as a valid email address.  I asked him what he did to get around that.  He said 'opened a gmail account'.

That's weird.  Aren't they registered properly or something?   Pity, as I was almost considering them.

Can always use the message company free for a year and see how it goes.

I read about this a few weeks ago, but only received a email from iiNet last week.

I originally signed up with Netspace, and have a Netspace email address that has been my main one for 25 years, so I have a big decision to make.

Netspace got gobbled up by TPG and then iiNet, the only reason I've stayed with them is that with the change from ADSL to the NBN, I found I had FTTB that had unlimited down/up load at 100mps [ it averages 90+ in speed tests] and was a painless transition.

That was until the bill I just got, which I see has sneakily upped my monthly bill by $15pm, without notice, from $69.99pm to $84.99pm.

Anybody else checked their iiNet Bill lately?

I suppose whoever stays with iiNet IS paying for any email addresses being moved to the message company with this price hike, even if they don't use them for emails.

The Message Company is supposed to be situated in Australia [Brisbane ?], at least for now, but if true to form of other companies, will be moved off shore soon after the transition period, and probably with little notice.

I've only had one internet problem in 25 years, and that was around 2 years ago with my internet dropping out....after ringing iiNet support numerous times [based in India] they finally sent somebody around to my place to sort it out...turned out to be Dirty contacts on the connector from the wall.

Strange thing was after this episode, I started to get a huge amount of fishing and spam emails [related to my iiNet account], which I had never suffered from before....this had obviously started from dealing with the INDIAN based iiNet support.

Like others, its probably time for a change....I dread having to change all the contact details that use my Netspace address though, just thinking about the ones for software licenses is enough to do my head in.

I think we are looking at this all wrong (it took me a while to get to this, having been a happy Adam internet/Adam email customer for 25 years).

Our existing email addresses will move to the other company.  We have a decision to make whether we use that service or go to the pain of a new email account provider.  This decision doesn't need to be made now.

Our existing internet provider no longer bundles email with internet, so the only reason to stay with them is if you are happy with the internet service.  If you aren't, what is stopping you from going to, say, Aussie Broadband?  You have exactly the same email arrangements as you had staying with Adam/iinet/TPG.

I think the internet business has underestimated how valuable the bundled email/internet provision was, and the loss of internet customers that will result from the loss of email provision.

I'll stick with the messaging company for my email (until the messaging company upset me), but I am likely to go to a different internet provider sooner rather than later.

I'll probably do the same , having a terminal illness, where I might not be around after the free email hosting period expires has a fair bit to do with my decision.

After the so called FREE period [which after looking at my sudden bill increase this month, seems I'm actually going to be paying for it anyway ], I'm wondering how the Email hosting with AD's will work if I stay with the FREE option, rather than pay yet more again for AD Free Email hosting.

Having my email go through The Messaging Company is rapidly looking like a 'Tiered' Netflix like subscription service...........I'm also curious to know if iiNet owns, or partially owns The Messaging Company, which wouldn't surprise me in the least.

I can understand them being able to insert ads if you are using their web client or phone app etc,   but I access all my email via IMAP (or POP3 if forced).

Does anyone know if the new messaging system supports IMAP ?

I’ve been with Internode since the early nineties and the last thing I need now is to deal with changes to the email service.  But such is life and I may now be motivated to ditch the current email address and start anew.  A hassle for sure but at least free from spam (for a while at least).

Yeah the spam is out of control, never knew so many girls wanted to meet up for fun!
