New Feature: Pinned (Featured) Classifieds Advertisements (IN TRIAL)

I hate it completely.

It's distracting, smacks of elitism and is not community focused - allows those with money to flaunt it and take a pinned post simply to be better than anyone else.

It is the pinned posters loss and a waste of money as I just scroll past them without looking.

Wow.

I get it that you are not a fan but there really is no need for a hissy fit about something that you can choose to read.........OR NOT.

Although we are a community with a strong focus upon mutual help, discussion and exchange of ideas,it is also true that running a forum website is a commercial entity and needs to be so in order to remain alive.

This is a benign way for those who pay a very small fee to keep their listing in view.

Obviously you do not like it and this is certainly your prerogative, but I think you need to chill out and just move on. There is nothing to do with flaunting or elitism and I am 100% certain that the members who choose to use this feature are not of the opinion, that that are superior to anybody else.

We all have our differing reasons for selling items and at times, some members may have more compelling reasons to sell than others.

This is not a hill worth dying upon.

As has been said by @Marc in his two posts in this thread so far, it's only a trial. How about we all wait for a little while and see how it goes?

  • I find the outrage around this, outrageous    I'm not bothered by the feature one way or the other, life's too short.

People are entitled to express their opinions. If you are not a fan of that opinion, you too can choose to read or not.

There is no need to attack someone or demean their legitimate opinion as a “hissy fit”

Taken out of context.

if you take the time to read my entire post I was at pains to acknowledge that the poster was entitled to his/her opinion and telling other members that they are "elitist"i or "entitled" is demeaning anyway.

My aim was never to insult anybody and it should not be labelled that way.

Thank you.

Given that there are, I think, 50 individual ads per page, and it has now been revealed that the number of pinned items will be ten at most, I can't see how that could possibly cause real inconvenience to anyone. As has been stated, a couple of whacks on the scrolling wheel on the mouse and you've moved onto the rest of the page. Maybe if you don't look at the screen while you do this, any outrage may be somewhat assuaged.

Yep. This. :)

Am I the only one skimming past the pinned adds quickly to get to the new stuff?

Kinda defeats the purpose, if I don’t like it the first time, seeing it over and over isn’t going to make me buy it.

Im actually more likely to skim past a new pinned ad than a newly listed one underneath the pinned ones.

That said I don’t expect my habits to stop a revenue raising feature being used long term.

Hi mods,

Just wondering if you can advise how to unpin certain topics?  I browse the classifieds regularly, but for some reason (perhaps viewing across multiple devices?) I've ended up with pinned topics in the classifieds forums and cant quite work out how to unpin them.

Your advice would be highly appreciated.

Thanks

It's due a current trial of paid boosting of ads, so nothing to do with anything that you've done, and there's nothing you can do about it either

There's a thread about it somewhere, but I'm not sure where it's gone

Just a suggestion, especially if it is trivial to program (certainly not worth the effort if it's complex)...

Is there a way to make the subheadings "Pinned topics" and "Other topics" more prominent, for example, having a light orange coloured bar behind the text?

I've thought of this since the classifieds have introduced the trial pinned ads, making the subheadings more prominent would bring a bit more clarity when scrolling.

Agreed - it needs to better indicate they are "Featured" ads to avoid confusion. It's on my 'update' list. Thanks for the suggestion.
