Ok, went into the Apple Store today, had a listen, and the complete lack of extended top end was a deal breaker. Bass was ok, but no treble. No go, sadly.

I've ended up with the BeatsX - I find the EarPods uncomfortable so I figured the AirPods would be the same

BeatsX are a bit bass heavy, but much better than I was expecting - esp considering it's Bluetooth

I already have Bluetooth Jaybirds and find the cord catches on my hair or neck  when i turn my head which is annoying.

I found the AirPods a slightly different fit to my Ear Pods, not as chunky, but i rarely use EarPods so cant comment on longer term use.

I supposed trimming the hair and removing the neck isn't an option hey?   :D

Hi, first post :)

I jumped on these early - had them since December 22.

They're a big part of my week - use them every day at work & during my 3 gym workouts.

The first hurdle is fit - if your ears are like the majority out there, they'll be ok, but unfortunately they can't fit everyone. No manufacturer can make ear buds that suit every ear, especially without rubber/foam covers.

If they fit & don't feel like they're loosening during activity, then you're set.

The next thing is Siri - if you've adapted to voice commands then their lack of physical volume/track controls won't be as big an issue as you think..... Initially, this was a deal breaker for me, but having taught myself to use Siri more frequently in the lead up to their unexpected release, I thought I'd give them a go.

They were brilliant from day 1, & only get better as you get better with Siri.

They're just so seamless in not only the way they connect to your IOS device (iPhone 6s user myself), but in the way they connect you with your device.

Phone calls - it's genius how you can talk for 2-3 hours, hear a low battery tone, take out one Airpod, place it in the charger for 10-15 to quick charge to near full, whilst you still talk on the other. Then after 10-15 minutes, you swap them over & quick charge the other whilst using the freshly charged one.

Music - Audio quality is noticibly better than the Earpods. Overall a richer, more detailed sound. I'm a big music listener. Love Spotify/Apple Music & have discovered more new music in the past 6 months than in the prior years as I have these things plugged in near all day.

I don't need the best audio quality, just enough detail & loudness with the volume turned down or up, & compared the Earpods, these are superior in both regards.

Tap commands - The simplicity & intuitive nature of either conjuring Siri or Play/Pause music are great. & With IOS11, more options are coming with seperate tap commands for each Airpod (track skip/previous). Only a matter of time before volume tap controls are introduced, which will mean these things will sell big (bigger then they have already). Removing an Airpod pauses not only audio but also Youtube clips & resumes them all once placed back in.....amazing.

Noise cancellation - I've never owned noise cancelling ear buds, & due to the safety issues they can create walking down a street or at work, I'm thankful that I can still wear the Airpods whilst talking to a person face to face. Their loudness is high enough to drown out environmental noise enough for me (I don't recommend this, but I turned them up whilst mowing the lawn & was still able to enjoy my music. Gardening's now less of a chore!)

6 months later, I'm still discovering reasons why they were worth the money spent.

The way I see it, if you own recent iPhone/iPad, are able to work with Siri, & have similar use habits to me, then these are a must.

They even work with Android devices, but with less functionality & slower pairing.

Anyway, I hope this helps those considering them.

Any questions, let me know.

Edit...

Range - This is another huge plus... I'm able to stand 27m (personal best) from the iPhone & still get uninterrupted music. At gym, I can place the phone on the open locker & exercise anywhere within the complex whilst listening to my tunes & not the repetitive playlist of the gym itself.

Ive never had my AirPods drop off when I was on an airplane or out for an exercise.

And I'm not kidding it sounds better than my old EarPods.

It's amazing how well everything works together.

The other day I was in a company van and needed GPS navigation, I was able to use SIRI on the AirPod to set navigation. It's often more accurate in transcribing my speech than the phone which is better than my car audio system.

My watch gave instructions by beeping at the right points while the audio comes across the AirPods so I never had to find or mount my phone.

I saw someone with a pair of these the other day. I must say they look very silly.

It doesn't bother me what others think I look like with these in my ears.

Although, I guess I'm lucky in that they sit almost behind my jaw, nearly hidden from the front. I notice on others they protrude out, which may seem odd, but their practicality & sound quality win out for me.

If you think about it, wired earbuds look sillier in comparison, with their dangly wires getting caught on things & tugging on them, actually increasing the chances of them falling out.

I much prefer the minimalist design of these, & dislike the bulky headphones which cover your ears completely. Their tiny size add to their practicality & improved mobility.

Added extra info in review above...^

well no they don't.

But that's possibly because we are used to them, as I'm sure we'll get used to airpods

People will get used to them alright. Especially after software updates add tap commands that completely replace physical button controls on wired buds. I look at wires now & think how silly/clumsy they look. No wires is a liberating experience.

I must be old-school. I don't use button controls on wired buds, I just control my music from my phone.

I'm happy for you that no wires is a 'liberating experience', personally I need something a bit more meaningful to set me free but to each their own

But why AirPods specifically? Aren't there so many wireless cans put there? Or is Apple the new word on SQ?

Voice assistance will evolve & become the norm over time. Tap commands on ear buds/phones seem a natural progression. I guess it comes down to how each of us have adapted.

I think you're having a 'literal experience' with my expression there.

Only liberating in the context of being free of wires in relation to thread's topic.

But I think we both knew that...

No, & I don't think they're trying to be.

I guess it depends on how one balances sound quality, mobility & practicality. As mentioned, Airpods seem to have a very decent package whilst not being world beaters in sound quality, although they're not poor by any stretch.

Pricey but these could be interesting.
will wait till the reviews before I buy a pair. It’ll be interesting to see how much better they can over the original considering they are sealed earphones.

I've worn mine more than any other headphones I've ever owned. Do they compare with SQ of my other "serious" headphones? No, but it reminded me of the old photographer chestnut, "what's the best camera? The one you have with you." I carry mine just about everywhere. Even when travelling overseas, I take my noise cancelling ones for the plane or hotel room, but my airpods for out and about as they fit in the change pocket of my jeans which usually has no other use for me.

I love that these have a mode that allows outside noise in, I hate the feeling of isolation when out walking or riding.

Yes my wife has lost hers before but I never have. From memory we used the find my phone app to get us close to my wifes, and then were able to find pretty easily.
