jimmmy
Hey Guys I was wondering if anyone here had any experience with a brand known as Vincent. I found some info but have not seen many retailers, reviews or anything about them here for that matter. Worth a try to see if any body had some first hand experience with this gear, in particular their 6 channel amp and pre amp. cheers James

Most of their gear is good, but IMO their tube/hybrid models aren't that great.

cheffie
This is what i have found they are enormous, not sure if i can find a speaker to handle the power i can buy them pretty cheap not sure what i can do with something that big. Symmetrically constructed amps with a huge amount of power that also play critical speakers. You can get up to 600W per channel from the big ring core transformer. Big storage condenser batteries provide sufficient reserves . Class A circuitry design allows clear sound low in distortion at full power. Frequency response: 10 Hz - 50 kHz +/- 0.5 dB Nominal Output Power RMS/8 Ohm: 300W Nominal Output Power RMS/4 Ohm: 600W, Class A/8 Ohm: 50W Total harmonic distortion: < 0.1 % (1 kHz, 1 Watt), Input sensitivity: 1,1V Signal-Noise ratio: > 95 dB, Input impedance: 47 kOhm, Inputs: 1 x RCA, 1 x XLR Outputs: 4 x Speaker Terminal, With 12 V Triggerinput Mains supply: 230 V/50 Hz, Colour: black/silver Weight: 31 kg, Dimensions (WxHxD): 265 x 458 x 420 mm
everyones_shadow
Hi All When I was posting about seeking a sonically 'smaller' amp a week or two back to try and overcome problems I was having with my DC-Xs in a small room Phil V PMed me saying VAF were now carrying Vincent amps and he recommended I come in to listed to their physically small monoblocs. I needed to speak to him anyway about mu speakers so I went in yesterday. The amps he was suggesting were http://www.vincent-tac.de/en/product-types/poweramplifier/sp-997.html a very small pair of monoblocs ($800 each?). They sounded very sweet and delicate but still had good detail. A big change (and frankly relief) from my Krell but with nowhere near the drive or impact of that amp. I think a lot of people will really like them and they'll be very convenient to place and hide if you want to. There was a bigger Vincent pre-power connected up to the i93s maybe http://www.vincent-tac.de/en/product-types/poweramplifier/sp-331mk.html this one with matching pre-amp. Not as sweet perhaps but all the drive and impact you could want without losing impact or drive. The i93s were just spectacular. Better than at the GTG. I was even able to convert Phil V to the Dresden Dolls. Now he wants his own copy to use as a demo disc. We only listened to 'Miss Me' but all the problems I (and others) have previously attributed to mis-recording or mastering just weren't there. Not even a Linn Klimax DS/Klimax/Akurate system could do that. (Vincent CD player). When the kids allow I'll have to take my Krell and Trichord in to have a proper comparison. ajk_mkm
Hi guys, Eastwood hi fi just started stocking these. Anyone heard one before? Impressions? Andrew
Jventer
I think there were some at the Melbourne Hi Fi show - did not listened to them then. Elsewhere I listened to one connected to Paradigm Studio 100 - NAD and then a Bryston Cd player. Diane Krall - Bryston CD through the Vincent and the Studio 100's was actually very nice. Did not do comparisons.
proftournesol
I haven't heard that one but I've heard other Vincents - dynamic and nice sounding amps that lack ultimate micro detail, but great for the price.
JUV
I haven't heard that one but I've heard other Vincents - dynamic and nice sounding amps that lack ultimate micro detail, but great for the price. that is similar to my experience. headed by the cds6mkII cdp produced a large sumptuous sound stage with air and weight but lacking in finer detail. but very entertaining and easy to live with
ZEN MISTER
I have lived with a V60 for the past 18 months + . This is the best amp I have owned, throwing a great soundstage, able to cope with wide transient energy, timbrely accurate, and makes music sound like music. I believe it has all the detail you could throw at it, but it appears as a naturally occurring part of the music, and does not sound as though it was carved in with a scalpel . The V60 is a hybrid model. Best of both worlds. ZM.

L J T
I was looking at this brand a few years ago. The hybrid versions have their tubes hard soldered onto the PCB's for the models I was looking at. Find out the replacement costs and where you have to send it to get redone and any warranty issues you might be faced with if you choose to use someone else to carry out the work. ZEN MISTER
The V60 tubes are user friendly, as are other upper tier models. I was not aware of the soldered tube issue- seems odd. ZM.
Phantom
Hey folks. I recently saw but did not have a chance to hear, one of the Vincent SV-234 amplifiers and I am able to buy it for a crazy low price. I don't actually need another amp but many people here have said that too many is about right, so who am I to argue? This amp AFAIK is biased into class A for 10 watts and then switches to AB and outputs 200WPC continuous. I was curious if anyone here had actually heard one of these and or knows something about them. My knowledge extends to knowing they are a German company designing there but manufacturing in China, where it is sold as a Cheng Ya, but that's about it. I have done some Google searches and reviews are pretty rare, but I tend to take then with a dose of salt anyway. From what I saw and from pics on the 'net it looks impressive, but it might be fools gold yeah?? They retail here for $2400 and I can get one for a bit over half that, which is cheap I guess, but if it's just crap and bling I don't want to waste money for a bargain that isn't. Any thoughts ,opinions or info would be appreciated. Cheers. P.
ZEN MISTER
I have run a V60 for the past two years, marketed here under the " T.A.C." banner, ( Tube Audio Company). It is the last amp I could ever want/need. Vincent are dedicated to music, and their amps and cd players are routes to that end. If your possible purchase is untampered with, at that price grab it quick. You will not be disappointed. ZM
Cafad
Exactly, too many is just the right number to have. If you don't have too many then you are just not trying.

HUMBUG89
I own a Vincent amp (SV236) and it is very well buildt, weighs a ton and has higher quaility components within (caps, resistors etc) drives my speakers, which are 92db!, better than the well respected valve amp I had and if you can get a $2400 amp at half price or less and you have the funds, I'd grab it, the worse being you can resell it later on or use it as a spare. mogtribe
I own a Vincent HT amp (SV-388). As spike89 mentioned, the build quality is very high. I have owned it for almost 10 years and it's never missed a beat. Compared to most other HT amps, which are full of digital processing cards, the Vincent is all about pure sound quality (the majority of the space inside is taken up by two toroidal transformers and a massive heat sink tunnel), and it sounds excellent in stereo mode. If I was in your position, I would definitely buy it.
Time_Lord
Has anyone here got these mono in their setup? Dolphy
I've been running my Vincent MK236 with stock tubes and I've read in various places that the stock tubes aren't great. I always thought that the amp performed well, but as they say, curiosity got the best of me, I bought three 12AX7 Electro Harmonix tubes and replaced the stock tubes. I must say the difference is night and day. The sound stage has vastly improved and the detail has also improved. I can't recommend this change highly enough. Any other tube rolers out there that can share their experiences? This is the first time I've been game enough to open up an amp and make changes. I found the spring holding the internal tubes to be tricky and somewhat frustrating, I persevered and the challenge was well worth it.
