BTW: happy with peated and un-peated! My favs probably are Laphroig, Ardberg and Lagavulin, but for every day I’m not sure - maybe I’m just kidding myself!!!

Ta all!

Aberlour A'Bunadh.   By the time it's diluted with a little water to get it down to standard drinking proof it's very close to your limit; and to my taste it's one of the best.

  • My oath that is a thumper! But bit of a struggle to get it for less than a hunned dollars... This one I recommend...it's under$...even in the ABV...around 40%...slight peaty bouquet...easy quaffi

  • https://www.danmurphys.com.au/product/DM_1085/glenmorangie-the-original-scotch-whisky-700ml One of the best easy drinking under $100 whisky out there.  Neo

If everyday means not too heavy then this fits the bill perfectly. One of the best Speysides.

There are probably many folks here who know much more than I do.

But in my limited experience, one of the most enjoyable things I've ever tasted, booze wise, is Hellyers Road 12 Year Old Whisky. It's Tasmanian, and all I can say is it just tasted "right". I enjoy Glenmorangie and Laphroaig but when the mood strikes, the Hellyers Rd was the go to when I just wanted to indulge. It's slightly over $100 at ~$130 a bottle. But I suggest trying it.

Agree with you, I like Hellyers Road! Though to 'quaff' (or is that wine) and 'guzzle' (possibly more appropriate), and to have as a 'go to' as regular drop and an album before bed, a bit exxy! Need to get some again soon!

I agree...a tad exxy for a regular drop...

My secret...shhhhh...is not to buy under 45% ABV for a 'go to'...I find that it lasts that little bit longer...whereas the 40% is too easily sniffted, quaffed, guzzled and before you know it... :(

"Sniffted!" - nice, forgot about that... Ha!

As I departed a job that I have had for nearly the past 27 years I was given a lovely Tom Dixon Decanter. So my intention is to fill it with an everyday go to Scotch, probably a Single Malt. Would consider blended....

What should I put in it?

Less than $100 per bottle to be considered. (That's verging on OTT for everyday I know...)

According to boy wonder son who thinks he is the Inner West of Sydney's hippest and coolest bartenders with nail polish, etc... - what ever has an ugly label dad! Not a bad point actually!

Kind regards,

Michael

Also have two of the glasses. Nice!

Wow! Great list, familiar with a few of those! Drank far too much Oban in Oban many years ago...

Next on the list!

Or Johnnie Black! (just cause it matches the Decanter)

If it's a day to day drinker, something to be shared, always in the mood for it, I'd get something easy like a Highland or a Speyside malt.

The Glenmorangie above is a good example, but I'd also consider Johnny Walker Green (vetted malt), Balvenie Doublewood, Dalwhinnie or even Oban 14 yo if you'd like something with some mild peat.

While I love peated whisky, it's not a decanter drink unless you are the Marlboro man and have already cooked your taste buds with cigarettes.

Upvoting the Balvenie Doublewood. Great drop. Very smooth.

Leaning towards the Black…

Shootouts are great fun and thanks for keeping us in the loop.

For $50 JW Black is pretty reliable. Tho putting it up against plenty of other options within your original budget bracket and I think it will be left behind. Maybe you can keep us posted on that as well👍

The $100 budget was more about keeping recommendations in some level of check… I’d prefer to keep it well below that! It’s a bit like ‘recommend me a Turntable’ here on SNA with no ceiling, things go crazy really quickly, if you know what I mean.

@SPR08Y if you like the JW black, then you should really try the Green if not already. Can be had between $64 to $72

Have been eyeing that Bunnahabhain off since you recommended it...with a long name to rival the 85 character Kiwi Town...the longer the better, it must be good!?!

Have been waiting for your tasting comments...but then I see it's an Islay type whisky which means it's peat tainted?!? So maybe I'll pass...

I'm pretty sure it's not peated, just like the 12yo I have. They do make a peated one.
