  1. The HD800S can be a somewhat fickle beast. It can sound absolutely phenomenal, or very average, depending on the amplifier feeding it. It's an expensive headphone to purchase without knowing if your system can do it justice. It might be helpful to understand what you're looking to get from your headphone listening experience, and what type of music you listen to. Your preamp headphone out will definitely drive the HD800S. Whether it will sound good or not, who knows.
  2. Doesn't look cheap. Using Hobart as a postcode for Pack n Send, it's estimating around $190 or $220 insured.
  3. Further information: Up for sale is a pair of Wharfedale Evo 4.3 floorstanders. I am the first owner, having picked them up from an eBay seller during a sale that saved me a bit of money compared to RRP. I'm not the most knowledgeable when it comes to speakers, but to me they sound absolutely phenomenal. A review can be read here if you want more details: https://7review.com/wharfedale-evo-4-3-review/ They are in as new condition, and have had a pretty easy life. They've been kept in a child free, pet free, smoke free home, with the magnetic grills attached. I have the original packaging so shipping would not be a problem. Forgive my terrible photography, hopefully these images can show that the speakers are in perfect condition. 4. Further information: Up for sale is a NAD C338 that I purchased as a refurbished unit from Digital Cinema. For the life of me I couldn't figure out exactly what required re-furbishing, as the unit appeared to me to be as new. It's in very good condition, no visible markings that I can identify, and has worked flawlessly since I purchased it. It's had a relatively easy life powering some Wharfedale Evo 4.3s that I will also be selling. It has digital and analogue inputs, a capable enough phono input, subwoofer line out, and will accept Bluetooth or wifi streaming. It has run Spotify connect perfectly for me. I'm moving into a studio apartment, with no space for a proper speaker set up. Plus I don't wanna be that dingbat blasting metal at midnight. So the speakers and amp have gotta go. My loss is your gain. Don't know how pickup would work given restrictions, but happy to do contactless if Gladys wills it so. Otherwise shipping should be fine, I have all the original packaging. 5. I once owned a pair, can't remember if it was ZS10 or ZST, but I recall them being pretty enjoyable to listen to. Hard to go wrong at the price they go for.
  6. As some of you may recall, a while back I was asking about some possible options to pick up a HD800S and drive it suitably. I had a budget at the time which I ended up completely ignoring by purchasing a used Eddie Current Zana Deux. The sad news is that it arrived damaged, and is currently awaiting repair. To stop the seemingly endless flow of tears, I purchased a Gieseler GroB when another member here offered me one at a price that was too good to ignore. But it sat around neglected, as I had no amp. I impulse purchased an Xduoo MT-604 to tide me over, and it arrived today. Initial impressions are difficult, because it's an entirely new chain, and I can't tell if it's the GroB or the tubes, but the HD800S are sounding absolutely phenomenal. A step up from the Dethonray Honey H1 which was already doing wonders as a portable DAC/Amp. As an additional benefit, the MT604 has seperate volume for L/R channels, presumably to deal with imbalances between the 4 tubes. But I have some very mild hearing loss in one ear, nothing to worry about according to an audiologist, but enough to skew the soundstage to one side. Easily accounted for with the 604. I'm gonna give the amp some time to burn in, but at the moment I'm a very happy man, definitely remembering why I love this hobby.
  7. I know it's been a while since you posted, but if you're still looking, I have a pair of Evo 4.3's in walnut, immaculate condition, that I'll be listing once I get around to photographing them.
  8. Hi Mike, Have just powered up the unit to check, details as below:
  9. Further information: For sale is an SMSL M500 DAC and HP amp. Purchased second hand on a whim while experimenting with how I wanted to set up my desk for listening. Have since decided to go another direction. It's in pretty good condition, some small superficial marks here and there, too small for my lousy photos to pick up. Worked perfectly during my use. Got pretty good reviews from what I recall, and measured well on ASR if that's your thing. MQA compatible but I didn't play any MQA files. Shipping required due to lockdown, but should be under $20. Happy to get estimates if you're curious. 10. Would help to know a few things: What kind of budget are you looking at spending on the DAC/Amp, and each pair of headphones? Are you interested in purchasing new, or would you wait around for second hand items to get better prices?
  11. I'm taking stock of what I'm currently using, figuring out what I'd sell and rearrange to work this in somehow. An incredibly tempting price.
  12. There are probably many folks here who know much more than I do. But in my limited experience, one of the most enjoyable things I've ever tasted, booze wise, is Hellyers Road 12 Year Old Whisky. It's Tasmanian, and all I can say is it just tasted "right". I enjoy Glenmorangie and Laphroaig but when the mood strikes, the Hellyers Rd was the go to when I just wanted to indulge. It's slightly over $100 at ~$130 a bottle. But I suggest trying it.
