davewantsmoore Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 What do you mean by Found LOL. I've been looking in the wrong places so far it seems :-)
Telecine Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 30 amp 115 Volt is about 15 amp 240 Volt. For a discussion on the subject, see here.
Guest yamaha_man Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 (edited) LOL. I've been looking in the wrong places so far it seems :-) It's amazing what one can find at the hard rubbish section at the Melton tip. Edited March 13, 2012 by yamaha_man
Guest yamaha_man Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 Well I bit the bullet and connected the monoblocks up. The Krell FPB-600 that I had been using is an almighty amplifier worthy of it's reputation. However, once the KAS were connected it reminded me of the huge difference I heard when I went from the 2 ME-550II Hi-Cap amps to the 600. I honestly can't speak a bad word of these amps. A certain person who was here with me at the time agreed with me that the KAS are very, very special amps. He also commented that he could think of no amplifier that would/could be considered an upgrade and I must admit, I wholly agree. I think I can comfortably say I have just purchased my last amplifier/s for my main system.
Guest Muon Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 Congrats, Yammie Man. Hehe...you sound over the moon with those amps, they must be very special alright
Chickenism Posted March 13, 2012 Posted March 13, 2012 Umm...that 'certain other person' was me With more lifting involved and another dose of Nurofen needed when I got home. Man, these things are heavy. Run hot, too. They're bigger and much more expensive than any electric heater I know of but just as effective at warming up a room. You can feel the radiant heat from them from about a metre away But Holy Crap do they sound good. I was amazed when they were switched on last night. I've never been entirely convinced that amps make much of a difference, as long as they're supplying enough electricity to the speakers. I might have to revisit that theory. They've introduced a new world of bass to YM's system (depsite being 220w/ch down on his previous amp ) in terms of definition, texture and extension. Space, top end air and detail and midrange smoothness have all audibly improved. Example - Chris Isaak's "Baby Did a Bad, Bad Thing" is a bright recording and is ear-splittingly harsh on many systems, especially the second half of the song. But I played it LOUD last night and didn't cringe and want to turn it down as per usual. Instead, I enjoyed the dynamics, the little percussive details, the big bass slam right at the start...suddenly I thought, "this is actually a great song!" And this through the unforgiving beryllium domes of the Yammie NS1000's. And on the subject of these, they must have been jaw-dropping when they were released in the 70's; it's hard to imagine they're over 30 years old. And boy, can they lap up the power from the new monster amps. Fantastic stuff. These aren't little niggly differences that you have to try hard to hear, exaggerated in writing by an overly-enthusiastic punter. I've tried to avoid going overboard, in fact; but those who've heard the old amp will just luuurrve the new ones A couple of iPhone pics, taken in a darkened room so apologies for the quality. Young Skywalker Posted March 14, 2012 Posted March 14, 2012 The KAS is one exceptional amplifier and unlike any Krell I have ever heard. The KPS-25sc is also the best digital product I have ever heard from Krell. Congratulations. They don't make 'em like they used to.
Young Skywalker Posted March 14, 2012 Posted March 14, 2012 Currently listening to some vinyl with a nighthawk connected to the KPS-25s. The separation, soundstage, pin point accurate imaging, bass control and depth is nothing like I have ever experienced in my system before. I'm amazed! Can't wait to hook the monos up to see what further improvement can be made. Please get a better phono preamp for this system.
Guest yamaha_man Posted March 14, 2012 Posted March 14, 2012 Please get a better phono preamp for this system. You got one you feel like donating to the cause?
Young Skywalker Posted March 15, 2012 Posted March 15, 2012 You got one you feel like donating to the cause? I would if I could but alas, I am just a struggling student at the moment. I am happy to make one or two suggestions via PM if you are interested.

Guest yamaha_man Posted March 23, 2012 Posted March 23, 2012 Loving my new heaters on a cold Melbourne day.
Lil Caesar Posted March 23, 2012 Posted March 23, 2012 Isn't It about time "Yamaha Man" become something like "Krell King"
Guest JohnA Posted March 23, 2012 Posted March 23, 2012 Isn't It about time "Yamaha Man" become something like "Krell King" yep, think a name change is in order for sure

unclemack Posted March 27, 2012 Posted March 27, 2012 What a great thread! This is some very impressive gear and you are a lucky man YM. I heard the Wilsons at the Audio Show and they were mighty nice. God knows how good they must sound with the Krell set-up. Good to hear that the old Yammys are right up there as well. Well done. I await the GTG... Cheers M
cheekyboy Posted March 28, 2012 Posted March 28, 2012 Who's YM? Yeah mate, it's RTR now so maybe you need one of these as your avatar....... Cheers, Keith
