Hey Grumpy.......it was just a link to similar info.

I must admit I've never seen or heard of that album before. So, I had to do some checking to find out a bit about it. Well, I've done my learning for today :)

Fuzzy,

If you like their current album checkout their release from 2004, bloody brilliant.

Just picked up OK GO's new album, 13 short fun rock songs packed into 41 minutes. Great stuff, their now famous Treadmill music clip for the song Here we Go is a good indicator of the rest of this high quality album.

Also bought the Yeah Yeah Yeahs new album, some flashes of billiance on this one incuding "Gold Lion" which is just a sublime song to my ears.

[/b]

Thanks Mondie - that album is Final Straw and had downloaded it after Eyes Open but thought I'd save that one for another purchase since I'm broke after a trip to the Hunter. :)

OK GO and Yeah Yeah Yeah - Sounds like another couple of albums for me to download and check out.

G'day,

A while back there was a beaut Snow Patrol track called "Run", that got flogged a bit on JJJ. Although the CD it was from didn't scale the same heights as that particular track IMHO.

And I did hear and grudgingly approve of that new toon "Chasing Cars" when I heard it blaring out of the speakers when The Bride was watching the aforementioned textbook-titled TV show.

Yup 'Run' and 'Chocolate' were the major hits on the Final Straw album.

well thats my lot for coincidences today.

Been listening to last fm ( recommended by geoff) and when I hear something I like, download a few more and then check them out. One of the recent check outs was Snow Patrol! For some reason had a 'down' on them, don't know where that came from. Liked what I heard so went to the local this afternoon for more of a listen ( would have preferred the earlier one ) but all they had was Eyes Open. Took it over to the cd player for a listen, the guy next to me was listening to - you guessed it-, Snow Patrol!!

Liked enough of it on first listen to buy it, brought it home and then went out.

Logged in now, and blow me down what are you guys talking about!!

If there is a horse in the cup next week with any sort of cross reference guess what my money will be on!!

Also bought The Rakes, and an aussie outfit called Small Sips, one of the guys from Soda Stream, melb outfit that did some great stuff.

Think the reason I was 'down' on Snow Patrol was because of the Reindeer Section, don't like their stuff ( has member from snow patrol in it)

lots of love

terry

More LPs for me today

Led Zep

Led Zep 4, I prefer side 2 even though The stairway to Heaven is on side 1,

Physical Graffiti, love Kashmir

Interesting, because I do enjoy the "Son Of Evil Reindeer" CD that I have, but the Snow Patrol CD as a whole didn't really grab me :)

Led Zep 4, I prefer side 2 even though The stairway to Heaven is on side 1[/b]

"Led Zep 4" is a cracker: Dunno if I "prefer" side 2 -- sure you've got "Going To California", "When The Levee Breaks" and "Four Sticks" but ye cannae forget "Battle Of Evermore" or "Black Dog" (and that other song -- can't remember what it is about -- something about a girl called Miss Given?) on side 1 :)

Still, my fave Led Zep track is "Since I been Lovin You", or maybe "In My Time Of Dying".

Wow there's a group you don't hear much of.

I wonder if many remember that Gary Moore was the guitarist?

also Audioslave's Albums get a good thrashing

Funny thing happened yesterday while I was playing some vinyl (Beatles RnR music LP).

A young neighbour who I helped get into A/V bought his Fiance and his new pup into visit and he took her into my A/V room to show her the system that got him wanting one of his own.

He told me later what she said. " Looks nice, but it sounds scratchy" . I wondered after, if she had ever heard a Record before that wasn't being used for Rap music scratching.

I just picked up a new CD called "Ghost in the Shell, Original Soundtrack", and I've been listening to it heaps.

the music is very Japanese influenced instrumental type.

composed by Kenji Kawai.

Good movie too. Another good anime with a great soundtrack is Akira. Oldie but goodie.

perfect for giving a spin at the next gtg I reckon.

Such a lot of music mentioned. Kashmir was on Rage the other week played live which wasn't bad.

I generally listen to old music:

Early Pink Floyd with Syd (and solo Syd), used to be really into their later stuff but haven't listened to it for years. Still have a pile of vinyl bootlegs of PF though.

Been listening to a lot of Jethro Tull lately, bootlegs I torrent and official releases. They were one awesome live band in the 70s.

The old Captain Beefheart gets a spin every now and then: Strictly Personal and Safe as Milk remain favourites.

Bought quite a bit of Creedence lately, Cosmo's Factory is one awesome album.

The Stranglers collection is getting bigger as I find more of their stuff.

Most of what I buy is vinyl as I prefer the sound, although CDs are also fine in my opinion.

Yesterday I went to spend a gift voucher at Sanity, really surprised my daughter by buying a new album by a young Aussie band: Wolf and Cub. I'm really enjoying this one, sort of slightly heavy psychadelic music played by a band with 2 drummers - very good stuff.

It's all about the music.

DS

To me, CCR and their Cosmos Factory were the most exciting thing back then, since the British invasion groups (Beatles, Stones, Kinks, etc.)

G'day,

Listening to a CD at work today -- This Binary Universe by BT, of Monster soundtrack fame, and before that an ill-advised foray into treacly doof-doof-progressive-house. But holy flirking schnitt! This CD is just beaut. Some choice melodies and wonderful ear-candy here, with sounds whizzing about, some in a crunchy microtonal way and others in a more classic electronic style.

To quote from the Wikipedia entry:

Apparently this release comes with a DTS 5.1 mix, which is how it was meant to be heard. I've not heard it (and don't have the 5.1 setup anyway), but I can imagine that it sounds double-plus beaut.

For lovers of Kraftwerk, or other 5.1 mixes like Jean-Michel Jarre's Aero.

Hi Geoff thanks for the heads up on this one. I have been listening to the newly purhcased cd/dvd tonight and can completely agree its a great set of tracks - experimental somewhat - but they pull it off well I think. The DTS 5.1 version is very Aero.

Glad you liked it. I have been listening to BT's Monster soundtrack a bit lately, which is also a CD-and-DTS -5.1-mix-on-a-DVD double pack. Only listening to the CD however, which I reckon is just beaut. More melodic and conventional than This Binary Universe (but still with some deep bass in parts). Two thumbs up (and a wink) from me.

--Geoff

OK, been listening to a few new CDs and would really recommend these two ;)

"The Royal Tenenbaums" OST and "The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou" OST.

Both are great movies written and directed by Wes Anderson, and the OSTs are just as great.

GO TEAM ZISSOU!!!!

G'day,

"The Royal Tenenbaums" OST and "The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou" OST. [/b]

I have been spinning the Gladiator soundtrack a bit lately -- a lot of yer typical Hans Zimmer orchestral bombast, termpered with a touch of Dead Can Dance. Track 3, The Battle is a Wagnerian epic that has some killer dynamics.
