Wow, nice Travis!! Have they been restored? I have some of the smaller F81s which have some underspec'd components in the power supply and always need repair/restoration. There's a guy in the US who specialises in restoring them and even makes parts for them.

 

They like big amps of course.

Righto. I am undecided yet what to do with my old Monitor Audio MA84 speakers from the '80s. I sent one of the bass drivers away to be re-coiled before I went away for a while and when I came back there was no business and no driver. So, If there is anyone here that can use what I have here for parts I'm happy to offer them cheaply. All remaining drivers and the one complete speaker work just fine. 

 As you can see from the pics they are matched numbered pairs and were actually rather good speakers in their day. 

 Also, in looking at that bass driver again - it's been a while - it does look remarkably like a KEF B200. Can anyone confirm or deny this for me please? 

 I'm happy to remove the drivers and crossovers and ship them to a new home if needed. The cabinets are ok for the most part, but will require some restoration work after some years in storage, mostly only around a couple of the bottom corners. 

 

Oh and one more thing, can anyone tell me if there is a supplier in OZ of good quality re-foam kits for some 8" JBL drivers? Many thanks for any help here.

 for the refoam kits for the jbls you could try qld speaker repairs or if you are not in a hurry,you could contact loony tunes via ebay,he sells top quality foam surrounds for jbl and they will be to spec.

Palmwoods on the Sunshine Coast, QLD. Yes, it is a shame, I just don't have another B200 - if that's what it is - or the tools to refurbish the veneer on the cabinets. 

 

Have contacted QSR as a starter, they seem to have the gear and it saves well over $30AU just for shipping for the time being.

Hey guys n gals, do any of you happen to have a knackered set of Sennheiser HD430/430SLs or HD250 Linear headphones lying around, maybe with damaged drivers? I could really do with a headband AND a set of the pad rings. Even a set of Senn HD202s would do just for a headband. 

 My HD430s have had the headband usurped for use with my HD250s, as well as the pad rings, but it's a nuisance to have to swap them around, wearing out the plastic ball and socket joints in the process. 

I don't care if the drivers are stuffed, it's only the rest I need. I'd prefer to not have the shipping expense from overseas if possible, hence my local call out first  

BTW, my HD430s sound fabulous with Audio-gd R2R-11 DAC/Pre, despite not having any deep bass - they won't even tolerate heavier bass tracks without overloading. Transparency is fabulous, like an open window, they must have been stunning studio/radio monitors! For speech I've heard none better.

Wow, that was fast, just sold the MA84s to a local-ish collector! Glad they will be going to an enthusiast's home. 

 

Meantime, I could still do with those Sennheiser parts

QSR speaker foams are cheapo chinese ones and are not the correct durometer. Rick Cobb, Looneytune is the business and if you want to do it properly he's your man.

They're nothing that special, I gather, I picked up a pair of MX 1500's for $40 that needed new bass driver foams, the main cabinets and other drivers are just fine and in good condition. Thought I'd fix 'em up and move them on. I initially thought they had 8" drivers, but the actual cones only measure 150mm, so really only close to 6".

 My main project at the moment is restoring the Akai AM-2600 amplifier, about to start on the re-capping of the phono stage. Currently sorting through my capacitor supply and seeing what I need to buy further. Missing a couple of the small odd sizes, like 0.47uF 50V electrolytics which seem to be a popular choice in the 70s and 80s gear. I really must buy a stack of them, most all of my supply went into re-capping my brother's Nakamichi ZXL1000 cassette deck a few years back. 

 Meantime, I want to get the JBLs done and out of the way ... unless of course they sound any good.

Picked this bad boy up to power my Tannoy Berkeleys on the weekend. It’s a Denon POA-2400 and replaces my POA-800.

It’s rated at 200wpc and hails from 1989.

I guess most of my gear is vintage:

1970s Wharfedale speakers with 8" full range drivers.

1978 Rega Planar 3 with R200.

1980 Luxman PD264, Hadcock GH228 and V15/III.

1986 Townshend Rock with RB250.

1980 Denon PMA 250 II.

 

1995 is getting close to vintage, so 1995 Castle Howard S1.

a 1990s Sony CDP-390.
