It is amazing what  a smiley face will do.

Andy may actually take your comments as a joke then.

Oh it was a joke of course. I was actually talking to Andy about auditioning his phono :)

Interesting, and your work is well received looking at AK and the like :)

But am I seeing something that isn't there? or has that resistor been drilled in part  could be an optical illusion?

I'm tipping that's a top view of heatshrink on the cap's lead; check out the capacitor for the other channel.

It sure looks like it's been butchered at first glance though!

He is not sloppy with his work, so it did make go WTF! ;)

Edit: OK, now I see it is the tubing :) Doh!

Interestingly, the first post of this thread mentions the Denon 103 MC cartridge. Tonight I bought one on Ebay! I am looking forward to it's arrival, it will be my first Moving Coil! :) Hoping it matches well with my new Vincent PHO-8 phono pre amp. :thumb:

I'm running my first 103 in a wood body too now.

I'm running my first 103 in a wood body too now.

Does it sound better erect, ie: with wood :D? Also, more importantly (to me anyway :)),what was it like before the wood body? Cheers...

wow , interesting likeness.

Hi Owen,

i gather that could be a koetsu? prob higher grade than the black,

and Wand and some decoupling TT mat , similar to mine.

My decoupling is a cheap but effective version of 50cent pieces and pyjama pants

cut and using electro tape and blu tack to put it together. I got the idea off a conny bd1

obsessive on pink fish media. works.

I also have Duc's isolation piece on the cart. Thanks Duc and others for the Like btw!

Ok sound:  well I like it. It's the best I can do at my place.

I find the wand very good value for money. I have no other arm that seems

to be able to beat it. Transparent & clean.

the koetsu I like. it's a bit soft sounding compared to my ortofon Rohman.

u notice this on Rock.

but it's the cleanest cart I've heard , again at my place. lower mid range is

just very un coloured.  good but natural detail.  it's more natural sounding

than my ortofon's.  even though I do love my ortofons also. I have an MC30 supreme

that is INCREDIBLY musical with the WAND. Those 2 are married in heaven.

I haven't had my black on another arm so can't comment on such results.

what are your results with koetsu on wand?

Hi Pauly - that pic was from a review write-up I did a couple of yrs ago.... http://www.audioenz.co.nz/2012/12/the-wand-tonearm/

Have you tried the K Black with the isolation pad on the Wand?

What TT do you have it on?

Cheers, Owen

do you mean Duc's isolation pad?
Yes it is on there. Have a look.

My TT is a Connoisseur BD102 or 101 can't remember right now.
I'd prefer an Aura or a Micro Seiki ;)
But I find it good value for $ table.
The BD1's are very musical and a nice TT. 10 inch platter.
The BD101 is just with a 12 inch platter.
I bought it off a guy in Canada who re plinthed it in what I presume is
a fairly dead sounding soft wood.
My Father had a BD1 back in the 70's and I used to listen to it all the time.
Loved it, very musical. His was plinthed in some massive and heavy piece
of wood. He sold it before I could grab it. many tears, many tears.
Prior to the BD101 I had a Thorens TD316. Quite respectable name.
But I could never really get all I wanted from this table.

Pauly - v sorry, typo, I meant, have you tried the K Black without the isolation pad?

I had a Thorens TD145 MkII once, nice.

( PS. My Aura is now surplus to requirements, for sale   ;) )

Cheers, Owen

I haven't tried it without the pad.

Can you comment on your experience?

My interest is right up now. :)

May have to try this.

Also I read your review of the wand and my ears

bristled when I read about Simon's "on the tool" arc protractor.

Apparently slightly different to baerwald for sake of inner groove

distortion. I'm not real happy with my inner groove currently.

It's set up with strict baerwald curve at the moment.

So motivation for no pad and Simons curve envelops me.

Let me know what you want for the aura. PM me if you like.

I probably can't afford as I have a 5 month year old boy at

home. I have a drop in cash available this year ;)

But I have some stuff lying around I should really sell

to raise some cash. Was looking also at a sota saphire lately.

Not sure if it would beat the aura.

A Benz LP-S has recently replaced my Ortofon Jubilee with ESC retip thanks to Stereonet classifieds, a nice price and a great forum member. Never thought that I would own one of these, pretty blown away with the sounds from the Benz, great sounding cartridge in my set up. Stoked is an understatement!!
