Unclemack is making some changes

So. The system has been working beautifully except for my preamp which has decided to introduce a buzz on one channel. But that’s another story. Due to a little windfall, I made the decision to upgrade my analogue source (Turntable) 😂. I found this lovely thing at a great price and Mike at HiFi Collector in Adelaide made me a great deal on this, the EAT Forte turntable with the 12” Wand Master tonearm. What a beautiful piece of engineering from Mrs Project and Simon Brown  it’s often said and received with scepticism but at 66 this is truly my end game turntable.

Finally got the records in place. Big job putting backs on the Kallax and then hauling the lot downstairs then bolting them to the wall, levelling and aligning everything. My brother was a godsend. Hi

  • Ive finally taken some pics of the new beasts. Once again I find myself with an Aussie product that delivers so much. These are a prototype of the speakers being built for our SNA friend @mondie. Thos

  • Well. Holidays are drawing to an end and I’ve finally completed  the concrete equipment rack. Spent a couple hours cleaning contacts and components then installing them into the unit. I’m pretty happy

Congrats @unclemack on your new deck 🥂. European Audio Team are good value and fly under the radar. Those guys know what they're doing. The Forte is the 3rd top of the range model, but has a separate subchassis and motor like the flagship model. Paired with that nice carbon tonearm, it should bring you many years of musical enjoyment 🎼.

Great pick up mate, always been intrigued by the EAT decks and that one looks like a cracker!

You know how l feel about Wands, very hard to beat without spending crazy money.

Enjoy my friend! :thumb:

Just watched Michael Fremer giving a tour of his listening room / set up and he gave the Wand arms from NZ a big accolade.

Yeah and he's not alone, with some other big names also firm fans! 😉

It’s an amazing design. Still getting used to the unipivot and all the adjustability. Fun times ahead.

It is quirky but brilliant, has it been setup for you?

If not, the metal  protractor multi tool is very good for getting it right.

Just make sure to get the right VTA ,with the arm relatively parallel to the platter.

And when you measure tracking weight, it needs to be measured at the same height as when it sits in the groove.- as it can vary enormously if higher or lower.

100 percent right wrt the tracking weight.  The geometry and the weight overhang position relative to the pivot point gives some crazy variation in tracking weight vs arm angle that really surprised me, especially on my shorter 9" Wand arm. It definitely isn't a negative though as I feel it is this part of the design that helps it track so well.  The wand on my cr@ppy old Lenco with my at33ptgii is something I haven't really wanted to upgrade from for a long time.

Happy Listening Unc!

Great advice. It’s all been set up for me but there will be some tweaking I’m guessing.

Had young Paul from Lenard Audio in this morning to do some dsp tweaking on my Symphonys. I’d been a little displeased with the sound I’ve been getting over the past few months but thought it was either listening fatigue or just my dodgy hearing. Happily, Paul discovered that something had gone awry with the settings. And so used his magic laptop to restore the sound to what it should be. What a difference! The bloated bass is gone and in its place I’ve getting so much more detail and separation in the mids and highs. The bass has been tamed and now instead of an overblown bass that overwhelmed every thing else, I’ve got a tight articulate and still powerful bottom end. Couldn’t be happier. These are remarkable speakers. Thanks Paul and John.

@unclemack Nice work, and you've got a good looking audio room there 👍. There are a few DSP advocates on SNA, with Keith Wong being a notable standout for his years of commitment to that tech, and relentless pursuit of perfection.

I’m a dunce when it comes to this. The DSP is built into the amps as I understand so I just get Paul to fiddle and correct what’s needed. It’s marvellous tech the workings of which will remain a mystery to me.  M

I personally think DSP works best in subs. For active speakers, I prefer Siegfried Linkwitz's approach of using ASP (as per his LX521 OB speakers). Though my next speakers will be passive and sans subs.
