Hi All,   Some 70's German Electronica today:     JJ

  • Last nights retail therapy courtesy of Urban Records in Leederville

  • Aphex Twin - Classics - 1995, 2LP. Because I need a dose of techno nostalgia after last night... It was my birthday on Friday. I had a migraine for most of the day and had to cancel my plans. When S

Bola - Soup -- a great mellow electronic album from quite a few years ago now, on the Skam label. Loved this back in the day and I should really get some of Bola's other albums such as Gnayse ("bola soup" and "bola gnayse" ... geddit?)

Gnayse > Soup.

i have spent most of yesterday and today listening to Cosmogramma by Flying Lotus (for the 1000th time!)

It's got to be my fave of 2010 but i have come to the conclusion that its mastered or mixed incredibly brightly, and the overall volume is so high, other CDs are much quieter in comparison so i assume its heavily compressed. I only have digital copies at the moment, does anyone have the vinyl version - is it smoother?

I have almost bought the vinyl about 10 times. Might add it to the next order.

Its good Jake, get it. The Tom York vocal track is pretty good.

Yes, the vinyl is superb. Nice pressing & sounds excellent. They have spent some time on the vinyl as the two inner sleeves are a tracing type of paper with really calligraphy art.

New Kode9 -Black Sun is very good as well

I may have to get the LP then…

+1 on the Washed Out EP, enjoyable nostalgatronica :) Album High Times is disappointing though.

Right now i'm listenting to: Luke Abbott – Holkham Drones.

An album that is a rich and rewarding listen. About as pure electronic as you can get. Apparently all constructed on vintage equipment, it has a unique sound and a sort of soulless yet melancholic sound similar to Cluster or Autechre. Much more melodic, rhythmic and structured than those two though, it's very very good. Plenty on youtube, my pick off the album:

Been listening to quite a bit of Camo and Krooked lately. Much recommended if you like drum and bass, some their songs also have a pretty laid back house/chill/trance feel to them. :)

Actress -Splazsh

As I read in a review -techno groove dismantled in clouds of static and hum. Luv it

Checked out Holham Drones on Grooveshark - its really good thanks.

If you like this sort of thing you should check out 10th by Nobukazu Takemura on the Thrill Jockey label...he also does Tortoise remixes...

Second that!

Been listening to Swarms - 'Old Raves End'. Very mellow ambient dubstep style. Really good, clean production.

Both these albums work as background music or as music to consciously listen to:

Sysyphe, Running up that Hill, Hadra Records

An atmospheric down tempo offering. Produced in a way to recess the dubby bass lines behind some drone - that gives it a unique sound. It has some beautiful moments, some dark moments and traverses the space inbetween. I rate this as an enjoyable albiet diverse album.

Kliment, The Perpetual Ritual, Electrik Dream

Nicely produced. Dreamy in places as a function of floaty pads, nice flute lines in some places and glitchy tweaks (sounds like a Kaos Pad filter) to purcussion in others. Smooth, laid back and well produced. Sounds like Kuba in some tracks, is reasonably Shonglesque in some some places (e.g. track 7, 4 min 20 onwards) one track sounds like Capsula albiet on half a valium.... Great for a weekend afternoon.

Happy weekend all.

And one more for good measure:

Spectrum Vision, Lost Space Device, Sentimony Records

Very nicely produced, groovy chill out. Quite psychedelic, if that floats your boat - but then I guess a lot of the suggestions I post lean cross into the psy dub category.

And will restate just because they are awesome: Tipper, Broken Soul Jamboree and Androcell, Entheomythic as my contenders for best chillout albums of 2010.

Just a little, light ambience:

Have got a few Takemura tracks but not heard 10th - i will check it out. Not on Spotify though :)

Came across Harmonia/Musik von Harmonia whilst satifisfying my current Krautrock addiction, i can't believe i've not listened to it before, an awesome classic electronic album from 1974 :

Enjoying the new Kode9 album too.

10Th is a bit like Sign but shorter songs and arguably more musical. Both of these are far less experimental/abstract than Takemura's other stuff. His Tortoise and Mice Parade remixes are awesome...

using search engine just like what i did when i have a problem also at home.

Some Spoonbil this morning for the wake up. Quirky, Funky, Australian Glitch Hop.

Some Raster-Noton goodness...

Kangding Ray – Automne Fold (2008)

Senking – Pong (2010)

That Pong CD has been on my wish list for far too long...have been groovesharking it at work frequently...

Came across some 'interesting' 70's electronica from Tomita

All 'old school' but interesting none the same ....

Emeralds - what happened

Beautiful drone synths & keys. Recorded to cassette tape - sounds pretty chunky in an analog way

haha, love that Fripp quote Janjuc :D

Have been enjoying Pantha du Prince - Black Noise

It's the equivalent of pouring the purest spring water and sunbeams into you ear-oles :)

Seriously though, it is fantastically produced and really benefits being played on good hifi.
