Amar Dhall Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 (edited) This early afternoon it is the seminal classic... Ott, "Hallucinogen in Dub", Twisted Records Aside from being one of the best re-imaginings of existing tracks I have heard, this is one album that does not get tired. I have listened to this album for years and years. The original Hallucinogen albums were w-a-y ahead of their time and are proper psychedelic goa trance, and this dubification is a must have album with thick, layered dubby basslines and plenty of tweaky perussion. A great album for just about any pastime. The original Hallucinogen albums "Twisted" and "The Lone Deranger" are also must haves for lovers of trance - despite their age they (still) cause dancefloor meyham - Simon Posford is performing a Hallucinogen set at the Rainbow Serpent Festival this coming Saturday night. For Ott fans, you will be pleased to hear that his third studio album is set for a March release. Of course, such statements often end up being out a couple of months, but at least it is on the way. wagner Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 Some more minimal electro dub: Kit Clayton - Nek Sanalet Vintage (1999) Scape release. yes, this is good.
Janjuggler Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 Talking Klaus, the artist at mature stage of his career path, for my taste him the best album, "Kontinuum"berun This is one album which I prefer to listen to on CD over vinyl, as I think you have to listen to the entire piece without getting up to flip the record and I think you 'lose a bit of the feeling' for it in doing so.... 2
Amar Dhall Posted January 18, 2011 Posted January 18, 2011 Another classic for an afternoon of thesis writing (and SNA-based procrastination...) Phutureprimitive, "Subconscious", Waveform Records Dark, Dubby beats. I think that this album offers quite a unique sound, there is not a lot of darker chillout that is complex and well produced.

zog Posted January 20, 2011 Posted January 20, 2011 Clan Analogue - CogCompilation of early 90's Aus electronic dance music. Takes me back to some very weird warehouse's in inner city Sydney during that time. When you had to call on the hour for the 'secret' location...memories... Same here! (though the memories are of the corresponding Melbourne warehouses...) Clan Analogue still active in Sydney and Melbourne and producing releases.

Good to know...is it just me or are there fewer dance/electronic music stores around these days? I've seen a couple around Melbourne but their vinyl stock always seem a bit slim...
wagner Posted January 22, 2011 Posted January 22, 2011 there are fewer. 1985 - 1998 were the golden years.
Grimmie Posted January 22, 2011 Posted January 22, 2011 Just been playing one of my favorite albums from last year, "On" by Funki Porcini. I’ve mentioned once or twice that I am a huge fan of the Ninja Tune label and FP came to my attention through the excellent Ninja compilations that they issue every now and again. They have a branch of their artistic tree that has an electronic-jazz feel to it that I love. DJ Food, Skalpel, Cinematic Orchestra, Bonobo and others all do it for me very well. So the first time I heard this latest offering I knew it was a classic and it’s grown on me every play since. I know some would cringe at the word ‘jazzy’ in context to any music hybrid, but don’t let it put you off this is pure quality electronic / dance / jazz / seriously good music G
New Sensations Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 Plastikman - Arkives Mix. Just stunning.
houdinifangs Posted January 24, 2011 Author Posted January 24, 2011 Plastikman - Arkives Mix. Just stunning. How does it compare to Closer? (which I haven't heard either)
Amar Dhall Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 Mid tempo proggy tunes: Sundial Aeon, Apotheosis, Flow Records Groovy beats that feature a fat, proggy kick. Some psybient breaks make an appearence in this album. I would suggest that this is quite an electronic sounding album - not in a bad way. Did anyone here make it to see Shpongle outdoors? It was absolute dancefloor mayhem! A very primal dance floor, with well over 5,000 souls getting Shpongled. I think that was my most 'losing myself in the music' dance I have ever had. The engineering was sublime and deft as well. I had thought that some of the new stuff was cheesy on the fourth album, however, it translated into an epic live experience. If/ when they come back, I suggest anyone that loves electronica go and check it out.

zog Posted January 29, 2011 Posted January 29, 2011 Good to know...is it just me or are there fewer dance/electronic music stores around these days? I've seen a couple around Melbourne but their vinyl stock always seem a bit slim... Very possibly, as I don't go out and buy CDs at all (except for random 2nd hand buys), I have been buying FLAC files from the net.. and the occasional ordered CD. I think SLAP records in Fitzroy (the proprieter being the most excellent Clan Analogue DJ Toupee) wound down their operations mostly due to the pressure of everything being easily available on the 'net. Also it seems a lot of DJ's are going the laptop route, so buying music as WAV or FLAC files online for playing might be taking over from vinyl.
