Boards of Canada on Vinyl!? Did you buy it during it's initial release run? Because i just had a quick look on Discogs and all the BoC vinyls are heavily inflated :)

Glad I bought my BOC albums on vinyl when they were released. They are all wonderful

I think I will play their early LP High Scores now

As an old raver thats taken a long excursion into 'cool jazz' away from electronic, I'm really appreciating this great discussion.

Faves that Ive picked up from this so far:

Global Underground 39 Dave Seaman - Lithuania

Third Ear Audio

Shpongle_-_Are you Shpongled

Other stuff not mentioned yet:

Xerxes - The Mirror Formula (brilliant downtempo, free from his site)

Xerxes - xerxes_for_dummies (brilliant downtempo, free from his site)

Pete Namlock - Dark side of the Moog 6 & 9 (more brilliance)

LSG - Volume 2 (some a little more up tempo)

Luomo - The Present Lover (more pop-ey)

Ott's third studio album is set to be released on March 8. He is releasing this himself and not going through an established label. I have referred to his music elsewhere on this thread, but it is well worth checking out for those that have not heard him. I think Ott expresses 'beauty' in dubby electronica like nobody else.

more dub :

just been listening to: Intrusion / The Seduction of Silence

not a particularly original sound, but very well done dub/techno in the basic channel/maurizio vein

also I like : jan jelinek / loop finding jazz records

pitch black / Futureproof ( more trancy dub or dubby trance but great)

So I caved in and bought my first records (if you visit the Vinyl thread you know I'm new to this), I hope the weather doesn't do anything to them whilst in transit... (I hope my Warp records records don't get warped!)

General magic - Frantz

333.jpg

So this was the album that got me into electronic music. I got it at the door of a Merzbow/Mike Patton gig in Sydney from the guy who went on to set up the Synaethasia store (RIP) in Melbourne. At the time I was into fairly noisy experimental stuff (like Merzbow) and just discovering the joys of John Zorn and Eric Dolphy. I ignorantly associated contemporary electronic music with Oxford St style dance or those fluro bunny fire stick people who sometimes slept on my couch. It would be understatement to say this CD changed my approach to collecting music.

Listening to it today, it still seems fresh and inspiring. It has a really good balance between experimental and listenable - unlike Merzbow which now I only reserve for frightening small children.

I think the bookat site sums it up well:

This was the debut album by General Magic, the duo of Ramon Bauer and Andi Pieper. Alongside Peter Rehberg the duo pioneered the Mego sound on the by now legendary Fridge Trax 12". The sounds on this album still push the boundaries of acceptable audio constructions. The quivering dropout-laced opener 'Tyrell' is just nuts, while the sample smashing ways of 'Madshoes' and 'The Official GM Ski-wm Theme' are a real hoot. There are some pretty ominous industrialized glitch-scapes at work here too though: the abrasive crackle and room drone of 'Temko' make for a particularly disorientating five minutes, while the corrupted bleeps and oscillations of 'Obvious' make for a pretty brain-frying sonic trip. As with much of the early Mego line-up the spectre of techno hangs over Frantz, with surreal beat structures rising from the digital clamour throughout the album. Another classic from the Mego vaults

Next up...

Kevin Blechdom - I love Presets

Funny low-tech smutty girl rap/electronica - Would make Peaches blush

Check out this vid - the main song doesn't kick in until about 2:30 after an intro not on the cd.

Please dont listen to this if you are offended or bored by Peaches - I think this song is an ode to KID 606 who may or may not be her ex

I agree that this is an amazing album and a must explore for any aficionado of electronica.

This evening it is a Shulman-fest:

Shulman, 'In Search of a Meaningful Moment', Aleph Zero Records

Shulman, 'Endless Rhythms of a Beatless Heart', Aleph Zero Records

IDM, World.

I really dig these two albums and use various tracks of them in my reference cd's for testing new components.

DJ Krush - Stepping Stones

2xCD 'best of' remixes. Disc 1 is mostly hip hop flavored with lyrics and is good. Disc 2 is all instrumental and is awesome sprawling cinematic electronic. Had an interesting take on Planet Caravan (Black Sabbath) with a Miles Davisesque trumpet solo...

Squarepusher - Feed Me Weird Things & Go Plastic

Haven't made my mind up on these two. I really like his new stuff from the last couple years. These seem more serious takes on dnb. Wish he'd pull out that bass of his a bit more. These remind me a bit of Kid 606's Illness.

For another afternoon of thesis writing:

Tripswitch, 'Geometry', Section Records

Well produced, non-psychedelic, chilled out electronica.

Tripswitch, 'Circuit Breaker', Dragonfly Records

His first and best album. Original release is rare and expensive, however there was a re-release issued recently. A classic down tempo release on one of the greatest English electronica labels of all time, well worth exploring the full discography.

Surely they must have looked at the grand piano and thought 'this is the ultimate instrument'

Sensational mixes... this is Dave's best GU compilation IMHO, and one of the best GUs full stop. Brilliant from beginning to end. I bought it when it was first released, and it is still on high rotation.

G'day,

New SeeFeel LP. Not unilke Board Of Canada but a bit daerker, more guitar loops and less flow, more stop start. very tasty from Warp records

A "new" Seefeel? Gawd it must be about 15 years since they released something, back in the heyday of Warp in the early/mid 90s. I think I might have Succour or Qique stashed away somewhere. Kinda reminded me of a more electronic Flying Saucer Attack back in the day, with that shoegaze meets IDM sound.

This could be Jazz or electronic:

Currently listening to an 128k MP3 version which sounds OK.

I also have this on vinyl, unfortunately it sounds as OK as the MP3 version.

A shame cause I really like the music...
