At a guess this may have something to do with the Rolling Stones.

Maybe their biggest box set of their releases ever released...

Could be a huge foot?

Ok, here it is!

The ultimate book: The Rolling Stones by Taschen. A masterpiece, hand signed by Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Charlie Watts and Ronnie Wood. Limited to 1,600 copies. This SUMO edition was sold out at Taschen in a short time. A real masterpiece.

It's HUGE! It's INSANE! It's beautiful!

In the first photo, The Beatles 12 inch regular LP is there for a size reference.

SUMO format hardcover volume with 3 fold-outs in a clamshell box, 50 x 50 cm, 518 pages.

The book weighs more than 35 kg!

518 pages of incredible images from some of the world's greatest photographers, including David Bailey, Peter Beard, Cecil Beaton, Bob Bonis, Anton Corbijn, Annie Leibovitz, Gered Mankowitz, Helmut Newton, Norman Parkinson, Bent Rej and Ethan Russel. A foreword written by President Bill Clinton. Three new essays by award-winning writers David Dalton, Waldemar Januszczak and Luc Sante. An appendix with Stones in the media, a Stones timeline, a discography and biographies of photographers.

More cool info here:

COMPILING THE DEFINITIVE, AUTHORIZED, ILLUSTRATED HISTORY OF THE WORLD’S GREATEST ROCK ‚N’ ROLL BAND ISN’T JUST AN EPIC CREATIVE ENTERPRISE. IT’S ALSO A MAMMOTH LOGISTICAL FEAT.

THE GREATEST CHALLENGE WAS THE ELEMENT THAT WILL BE MOST CHERISHED BY ANY ROLLING STONES FAN: THE SIGNATURE PAGE FOR THE LIMITED EDITION. WE PRODUCED THIRTY SPECIAL ALUMINUM CASES TO TRANSPORT THE SIGNING PAGES TO EACH OF THE BAND MEMBERS. THAT’S FOUR ULTRA HIGH PROFILE, ENDLESSLY GLOBETROTTING STARS, EACH WITH DIFFERENT RESIDENCES AND OFFICES AROUND THE WORLD. SO THESE PRECIOUS PAGES TRAVELLED FROM LOCATION TO LOCATION UNTIL EACH AND EVERY ONE WAS SIGNED BY MICK, KEITH, CHARLIE, AND RONNIE.

IT PROVED QUITE THE TRIP, COVERING THOUSANDS OF MILES ACROSS THREE CONTINENTS. SOME SIGNING PAGES JOINED THE STONES ON TOUR THROUGH EUROPE AND THE UNITED STATES. AT ONE POINT A FEW HUNDRED PAGES WERE INEXPLICABLY HELD OVER BY NORWEGIAN CUSTOMS.

IN TOTAL, IT TOOK THREE YEARS AND TWO ROUND-THE-WORLD TRIPS FOR EACH ALUMINUM CASE TO GET ALL 1600 SIGNING PAGES THE MARK OF RONNIE, MICK, KEITH AND CHARLIE APPROVAL. ONCE COMPLETE, THE PAGES VOYAGED BY SPECIAL TRANSPORT TO OUR BINDER IN ITALY. CAREFULLY UNLOADED, THEY ARE THEN STORED IN A SECURITY VAULT TO RIVAL FORT KNOX UNTIL THE FINAL, HISTORIC BOOKS ARE BOUND, PRINTED, AND READY FOR SHIPMENT. AN ODYSSEY OF A JOURNEY, BUT WHAT A ROCK ‘N’ ROLL DESTINATION: THE ULTIMATE ENDORSEMENT TO THE STONES’ OFFICIAL PHOTOGRAPHIC RECORD. SATISFACTION GUARANTEED!

Thanks and you're welcome.

I think it's great to share everthing music related on SNA so members can explore other areas of music collecting/appreciation.

When I looked at the details of this book I could not believe something like this could exist - but it does!

Recording The Beatles by Curvebender Publishing.

It's huge with many pages and goes into SO much detail about how The Beatles music was recorded.

They are working on a new one, which may be 2 volumes - but this may be some years away.

Haven't read this (yet), but highly recommended.

LOVE the cover box and how it looks like a master tape box!

Another addition to The Death Star,

From the internet:

"Most collectors have questions about the famous statue that’s on the cover of Led Zeppelin’s 1976 Presence album, which is called “The Object”.

First of all, after graphic design company Hipgnosis designed the Presence album cover, in which The Object was painted into the various scenes, Led Zeppelin had real Objects copyrighted and produced. That’s what was used to photograph the album’s black and white inner sleeves. Shortly thereafter, Alva Museum Graphics in New York was contracted to produce 1,000 individually-numbered 12-inch tall black Objects for Swan Song to use in their promotion of the record."

I should have bought one of these bloody things years ago.....they have increased in price like crazy. The last time one was auctioned late last year (it also came with the original shipping box), sold for A$18,500 !!!! GULP!

I searched the internet for reproductions and stumbled across an ex NASA engineer (!) that spent over 12 months (!) perfecting his version. It is truly museum quality and people that have the real one say this version is actually better build quality.

He never did get his hands on an original, but he's seen lots of pictures. The originals are made out of plaster of Paris type material. Not really built for the test of time. He said he was sure they never considered the long-term impact when they were cranked out. They are kind of brittle from what he's seen and been told.

He configured The Object to have a specific gravity of 2. It weighs twice as much as an equivalent volume of water. It’s surprisingly heavy. Adds to the mystique. Certainly a conversation piece.

I would say that today, The Object is someone's mobile phone! 🙂

The Object could be used for many things!  😛

Well we could make a list of things it could be used for! Including useless ones. You first! 😁
