Anything but class A amplification is more of a compromise to my ears.

Mnn however it really when it comes down to amplifier / speaker / cable synergy.

I think one perhaps overlooked factor comes down to the amplifiers Dampening Factor.... does it suit ones speakers and particular cable impedance...

In a perfect world , amps with adjustable dampening Factor for both  lows and highs be a revelation.

I mention this as id be lost without this function on the Wolcott Audio Presence Monoblocks , the ability to dial in the bass to be either loose / tight / forwards or recessed is a feature i adore.  Offers both high level or low level dampening adjustablity , as Mick said ,  its part of the  Positive Feedback circuit for speaker and cable Impedance matching tuneability.

Unsure but its perhaps too hard for solid state gear to implement or bad for business as it would slow down the epic Amplifier merry go around.

Anyhow yours is sounding great with soul now Chanh.

Kevin from Class A contacted me regarding Poweramps. He recommended the Burmester 159 monos. I would like to seek your input on this matter. I have not seen them power Magico speakers. They are retail $449,000.00 a pair.

Are you sure it's for a pair?

Oh, I may have misheard that! But hey, you’ll have to forgive my somewhat muddled hearing after a week of pure eargasmic bliss!

I'd be careful of someone trying to sell you amplifiers based on matching the price tag of your speakers and while honest opinions on amplifiers that may match the m7s can be helpful any potential upgrade over the Gryphons should be based entirely on what speaks to your soul like your Gryphons do just on a higher level.

Yep, stick with what you know. The new Gryphon Antileon Revelation amps are the way to go!
Mark

The current setup is certainly not sloshy and is undoubtedly the endgame by many means to many.

The new amps are expected to impress me when connected. I aim to replicate the exceptional auditory experience I had with the M7s when they were unboxed.

Upon reviewing the Gryphon versus Karan, both devices have compatible two IEC sockets. Therefore, to acquire them, I will require four power cables, two of each mono. Each power cable is approximately $2500 pre-owned or $5k-ish new. This situation has become somewhat insane, but I like it! 😁

The Gryphon shown in the photo is the stereo model which is a dual mono design which would explain the duel IEC Sockets.

I imagine the new Revelation would be an incremental improvement over what you already have so whether it would be worth the financial outlay considering how good a job your current Gryphons are doing is a question.

If you were wanting to upgrade and stick with Gryphon the Apex would probably be the one/s to check out considering what you would be wanting to achieve with the M7s.

The Karan Powera monoblocks are definitely not pure class a as reading up on them they are rated at 2100 watts into 8 ohms and 3600 watts into 4 ohms... Four IECs are definitely required here...

Ironically this is actually rated well over the m7s maximum listed power limit of 2000 watts !! 🤯

Also, if i was playing in this league, I would listen to the Dan D'Agostino Relentless monoblocks.

Thanks, Marty. Great pickup on the Karan. I haven't yet delved into the details. Right now, I'm taking a brainstorming and opportunistic approach. I suppose the final cost will possibly determine the success of the transaction.

Regarding the Gryphon, you are correct. I had the stereo version here before upgrading to monos. The upgrade completely elevated the setup, and I have never looked back since.

My room at the beginning! Note the red velvet speaker cables I posted last week.

Thank you, Volker. I wholeheartedly resonate with your perspective. My audio journey began with Class D amplifiers; back in the day, brands like Nuforce and Bakoon were all the rage. In those early years, I was impressed by the remarkable resolution and clarity they offered. In fact, I still cherish my Nuforce gear, which I now use for my personal karaoke setup—it adds such vibrant life to my gatherings!

As time went on, I ventured into Class B and Class AB solid-state amplifiers. I had an unfortunate experience with one of my Class AB units (I won’t name the brand), which led me to send the amplifier back to Calton Audio. I ultimately traded it in to a dealer at quite a loss, as I simply couldn’t be bothered with the hassle. That marked the beginning of my passion for valve and tube amplification. The moment the Bob Carver Mono Red Cherries came into my life, I was hooked! I explored various brands—Conrad Johnson, Audio Research Reference 1, Coincidence, Mingda, and many more—each adding to my understanding of sound. However, the turning point arrived when I discovered solid-state Class A amplifiers from Gryphon. That experience ignited a new love affair with audio that has become the bedrock of my listening experience. Reflecting on my journey, I realise I could never go back; Gryphon truly represents the best compromise for my discerning ears. Of course, there's still the ongoing debate of Gryphon versus Accuphase and other competitors in that price range, but that’s a conversation for another time.

Not yet, Mark. I was hoping your visit could coincide with recalibrating the turntable again. After many movements and shifts over the last almost eight years, it is no longer in the ideal setting or properly calibrated. Perhaps this would also be a good opportunity to re-do the calibration and pair it with your amazing phono amplifiers, which would do justice to its state. Please let me know your availability. I have until end of next week before work resumes.

We can make that happen for sure mate.

Looks like we might need an EWP to access it though 🤣

Will rearrange it for better access for sure.

Too much power is never a bad thing if you have some serious speakers. Especially if you are going to stretch their legs from time to time.

I drop 1.5kw (at 8 ohm) of power per side into my mains and they don't flinch. my wife can hear the system from the front gate, 300+m from the house when she's foraging for mushrooms.

Fortunately our closest neighbour is 1km as the crow flies. 😶

I'm fully in favor of using reserved power. However, it’s important to ensure that the volume doesn't damage the tweeters. There have been cases where high-end speakers have had their tweeters fried. I've heard of people who own highe-end speakers going through tweeter replacements firsthand. In fact, I once helped a friend replace the tweeters in his speakers.

This album is interesting even to this day. I didn't realise there was so much more going on. The little subtle details of the texture/composition are certainly audible, with sounds moving quickly from left to right and creating depth in the soundstage. There are sounds of laughter, helicopters, and the crowd chanting... It is certainly very enjoyable.

A valuable lesson from the recent unpleasant incident has prompted me to create a QoBuz playlist for friends to familiarise themselves with before visiting my home if they intend to compare and critique the electronics or system, which is outside the purpose of simply enjoying the music and socialising.

As previously mentioned, my setup is rather crude and brutal, with poor recording quality. This is akin to projecting one’s own frustrations onto the system, resulting in unsatisfactory outcomes. I acknowledge that other setups may be more forgiving, but it is important to note that this is not the case in my situation.

Good on you @AccMagi7s for posting this. I still am in disgust that visitors treated you as they did.

I have not had the privilege of listening to a system like yours, but many years ago I did have the opportunity to listen to a $500K system - I learned so much from that and discovered new music. I am just gob smacked that you were treated as you explained.

(Maybe add a Spotify playlist as those critics may not have Qobuz 🤣)

Thanks @Jventer

I always aim to foster a warm and inviting environment for my friends, ensuring their time together goes beyond just enjoying a gathering, music, and socialising in a respectful manner. To enhance their experience, I have curated a cozy space that aligns with their preferences. My active bookshelf, which features dual 12-inch Rythmik subwoofers that I am considering parting with, is prepared to provide a remarkable audio experience that resonates with their purpose for the visit. I am eager to see how they appreciate this thoughtful setup!

1. You’re a great guy with a warm heart and a desire to contribute and share.

2. You like me are not suppose to be and are not going to be for everyone, and thats ok.

I get it is hurtful, but you don’t need to spend any time worrying about it. Keep doing what you’re doing it’s awesome.

And my favourite, what the people think of me is none of my business.

These electronics truly deserve a more inspiring listening environment than this room, Marty. I envision setting them up in the open space of the patio, where they can bask in the beautiful view of my garden while indulging in exquisite sound satisfied their pure intention!

Meanwhile, for the rest of us who appreciate music and revel in our shared passion for audio, we’ll continue to gather in this room, savoring delightful grape juice as we delight in the horrible sounding from the M7s.
