After a week of relentless wet weather here in Perth, I finally got my setup back up and running this evening. My main focus? Test out the Siltech Royal Double-Crown speakers cables. Now, these aren't just any cables—they come with a jaw-dropping price tag of $90,000 for a pair of 2.5 meters! I couldn’t help but feel a mix of excitement and skepticism. Would they really be that much better than what I currently have?

Well, let me tell you, as soon as I hooked them up, I was blown away. The sound presentation was transformed in ways I never thought possible! How could this be? The clarity, the timbre—it was all so breathtakingly vibrant and natural. Each note had a sweet richness and a decay that felt beautifully organic.

How can my mid-fi setup deliver such astonishing improvements? It's almost unfair! It’s hard to wrap my head around the idea that a pair of cables could sound this engaging, especially at that eye-watering price. If this is what high-end audio can do, then I might be in serious trouble! Sighhh…!

These Siltech double crown cables evoked memories of a friend in Brisbane. He owns a pair of Marten Coltrane Supreme 2 speakers, and their sound quality is exceptional in his setup. My positive experiences with his setup varied significantly from those of another individual using a similar Marten Coltrane Supreme 2 in HCM City, which I had previously listened to. It transpired that he was employing triple-crown speakers cables and interconnects. Now, having experienced the double crown sonic signature in my own setup, I was reminded of the remarkable Marten speakers that captivated me back in 2015.

I will allow the situation to resolve itself once my Magico M7s arrive for a thorough listening evaluation. Good night.

An iPhone was captured last night. It was absolutely incomparable to being here, but at least it gives a slight taste of what yields from these double crown cables.

Some of those expensive cables are guilty of manipulating the sound somehow to make them sound a bit different from the norm.Which some people will then convince themselves is better. Jorma Prime is a good example of that.A really weird sounding cable that somehow sounds a bit phasey .Some people think they are great!Perhaps a bit phasey sounding is what they like?

I have sat through many hours of comparing expensive cables [not owned by me] and come to the conclusion a good honest cable is a good honest cable and price does not really reflect quality. The Vermouth Audio Red Velvet speaker cables out of Bali are as good as anything I have heard. And by high end standards not very expensive.

This is a transparent experience. 🙃

You might have to explain to them it was supposed to be "transcendental"

I also want to acknowledge @brodricj and @ELECTRiCPiNEAPPLEfor their enormous efforts. Without them, this would not have been possible. After all, they have exceeded 250 kg in gross weight. It’s time to enjoy the results after years of soul searching! So far, it has been absolutely wonderful!

Looks fantastic, and i bet the sound will be sublime.

Most impressive upgrade Chanh.   They look right at home in your listening room.   Enjoy!

I seemed to have missed this room while at Munich HighEnd.

I would like to express my sincere gratitude to all of you for your kind comments and support. I particularly want to acknowledge Dan Cross at Addicted to Audio for their invaluable assistance in facilitating this project. It presented a substantial logistical challenge, and their efforts were instrumental in overcoming it. Well done!

Viewers may note the tape marked on the floor a few posts up. This was the dialed in position of the S5's and was the starting point for the M7's. We did an initial coarse position adjustment which is what you see in the photo with the M7 outside the S5 tape marks. There will be some more fine tuning of position over the coming days no doubt. The M7's can be moved on the Mpods with less effort than I was expecting. Yeah, the A2A guys handled all the logistics and the delivery/installation plan came together nicely.

There is a wider listening sweet spot with the M7 closer to the front wall than what was heard with them in the S5 position. The torquing of the tie rods from the very loose shipping position to 20 inch-pounds had a very noticeable effect on snapping the sound field into sharp focus. There are a few moving parts here with distance from the wall boundaries, toe in, torquing of the tie rods, etc all needing adjusting. There was quite a bit of Magico experience in the room during the installation and the roughed-in position is probably close to the final position after a bit of trial and error over the coming days.

Despite the large physical presence of the speaker we got them to sonically disappear without too much effort. The sealed enclosure of Magico speakers makes them very forgiving of position in the room, and in this optimally treated room even more so.

Congratulations @AccMagi7s on the M7 acquisition. All the hard work in that room is substantially complete. No more tail chasing. You get to enjoy the fruit of your effort, together with the fruit of the vine!

Footnote: M3 tie roads get torqued to 115 inch pounds. M7 only 20 inch-pounds.

It is intriguing that you mentioned this. While conducting testing, we inadvertently left a midrange horn in the room, and its resonance produced an unpleasant sound for the listener.

An intimate evening with M7s for the first night—wow! What a pleasure. This reassured me that such a significant decision was worth every pressure I endured. Now, the setup is projecting PRATT without compromise. I must reflect on my choice between the Marten Coltrane Quintet extreme at $450k a pair and the Marten Mingus Orchestra at $385k a pair. M7s are simply addictive, like an ongoing orgasm that stimulates you both physically and mentally. The demand for pleasure intensifies after its initial experience, resulting in an insatiable yearning for more. This desire manifests in the exploration of every conceivable genre, with the ultimate objective of further satisfying such yearning. I am currently experiencing a profound sense of well-being and contentment.

At this end of the performance spectrum everything matters. The midrange horn cabinet sitting lazily in one corner of the room - behind the M7 - was being excited by a resonant frequency. You could plainly hear that something was not right. On investigation the cause became apparent. That problem solved. We initially suspected the centre image balance had a left shift. Dan was half way through torquing the tension bolts on the back of the left speaker. Once the tie rods of the right speaker had been torqued the centre image snapped into focus. That problem solved. The Accuphase SACD source was skipping, interrupting the assessment. A scratched disc which the optical mechanism couldn't compensate for. That problem solved. And then educated guesses for adjusting speaker position and toe in. Setting the speakers closer to the front wall then had the big Gryphon mono-bloc amps impinging the width between the speakers. The position of the listening chair in relation to the back wall. When you are not listening in the near field, which is the case here, the acoustics of the room and position of everything in it are particularly important. That the Mpods  specifically for the front are actually installed in the front position. That problem was noticed and also dealt with. Everything matters. Making one change to correct an issue can introduce a new issue. You just don't dump speakers in a room and hope for the best. It's a step by step process. At the end of that the lights get turned down, the door is closed, you sit in your listening chair and start to listen. And what do you find? If you've got all those basics done right you don't hear the speakers. They disappear. And once they disappear you know you are 99% of the way to the true magic. By the sound of it, that's where @AccMagi7s is now. Electronics and cables now enter the equation.

To be honest, I believed my ears were well-trained and experienced after years of this hobby. However, Brodric’s expertise is truly exceptional, surpassing many levels. Your extensive experience, Brodric,  with Magico speakers throughout your journey has significantly enhanced our ability to efficiently relocate the existing S5s and place the M7s in the desired positions.

As I write this, I am captivated by the exceptional bass, which is both tight, transient, and articulate. It is truly remarkable.

What you have, and I'm sure you know this, the nuances of texture and coherence in the bass of those M7's - which you just don't experience in any of the S and Q speakers, makes for a sonic revelation. And the lesser M series speakers are cut from the same cloth.

And Paul McGowan has just written this in an online post....

"Don’t forget the most important component in your system: you. Because the magic happens when the equipment is good enough that your brain forgets it’s listening."

He's right about that. I dare say at this moment your brain has probably forgotten it's listening, and forgotten about S5 and all those other possibilities that until now had been scrambling with your brain.

Congratulations @AccMagi7s.

I know you've worked very hard to get to where you are and those M7s appear to be the perfect speaker for you.

I hope they provide you with many happy hours of listening. 😊
