  1. Yes the Dartzeel copies are really good in an ultra refined, open and clear sort of way and I agree also very high resolution but in a very understated sort of way. They are surprisingly good with my big Tannoys. Many SS amps can draw attention to the horn loaded compression drivers in them and make them sound a bit P.A. like but really good amps like the Dartzeel and Bakoon do not do that.People often describe Tannoy treble as being a bit like that but it is really not the Tannoys -it is just those drivers seem to expose the underlying treble coarseness that is common in many amps but which tends to be glossed over by most dome or ribbon tweeters and which seems to be associated with too much negative feedback. The Dartzeels and the Bakoons use no negative feedback. I do prefer the Bakoon AMP 5521 to the Dartzeel copy but they are very close to each other in sound and the Bakoon costs about 5-6 times more. The Bakoon is also more speaker fussy and sounds best with genuine 8 ohm speakers[some say even better with 16 ohm].
  2. I think people need to be aware that all these speakers of this age will require at least some work on the crossovers. The original capacitors were not that good quality to begin with and even if they have not lost value would benefit from being replaced with decent quality new ones.It cost me $480 to have the crossovers redone,
  3. If you like the sound of class D yes.As I said they are not amplifier fussy.
  4. Not that I know of.Or perhaps in some really early models? They tended to just to use the T27.
  5. Yes same as Spendor BC1 and BC3 and Rogers Export Monitor,B&W DM2 and DM4 and several of the classic Celestion speakers.
  6. I would say a bit more modern and dynamic sounding than the BC1s.More like the Harbeths probably but I reckon they image better than them. The HF 1300 is a superb tweeter -like half way between a dome and a compression driver so you get that energy and dynamics.
  7. Similar to Spendor BC1 but with much better power handling. The Rogers woofer and crossover was designed to allow for higher volume levels than previous versions.
  8. Further information: Highly desirable English BBC derived speakers in superb condition. The crossovers have been been rebuilt to to the original specs by Nigel at Speakerbug using high quality Jantzen capacitors and inductors and wiring .These are circa about 1982.Teak veneer in excellent original condition. They have spent many years in their packing boxes awaiting a crossover rebuild-hence their amazing condition. All drivers in excellent original working order.New gasket also fitted on rear baffle.Matched serial numbers. Stands [Spendor] are available for $200 extra including shipping. As originally sold with these speakers. Drivers are 205mm Rogers bextrene bass,Celestion HF1300 tweeter ,KEF T27 super tweeter.40HZ-20Khz + or - 2.5db.Suit amplifiers 50-200 watts. 635mm high,305mm deep,305mm wide.Stands are 250mm high. They sound excellent and are not especially amplifier fussy. The closest modern equivalent would probably be Harbeth HL5 Plus which sell for around $8000. Shipping using Toll Transport is included in price to most places in Australia including Adelaide,Melbourne and Sydney.More remote or distant places would be extra. They come with their original packing boxes and documentation including styrofoam packing. Local buyers please contact me for pricing minus shipping costs. 9. Further information:Acos Lustre Tonearm.Made in Japan.Good working condition.Nice vibrant sounding tonearm.Sliding adjustable mounting plate so easy to position.Shipping to most parts of Australia included in price. 10. Further information:These do not look much but they are great sounding little amps. One of the best sounding power amps I have used with a weighty, warm and rich sound and they sound much bigger than their 50 watts would indicate.Very good imaging. They are a famous combination with Quad electrostat speakers and considered much better sounding than the Quad 405.I have also found they match well with high quality stand mount speakers.I have also used the Nakamichi PA7 power amp which is a highly regarded Nelson Pass design but I think the 420 sounds better.Matches well with Supratek preamps. This was checked over by my technician about 3 years ago and nothing needed fixing. Can courier to most places including Sydney or Melbourne for $20. Compact size 420mm wide by 240mm deep by 80mm high but quite hefty. 11. These probably would have had a single pack spray lacquer finish.Which is only compatible with other thinners based lacquers.Nothing else will adhere to it.The oak veneer was either stained or had stain added to the lacquer.Possibly both.
  12. Thanks for the advice Alan. That makes sense. It seems to be full of premium quality Japanese components so I can see it would make little sense to replace any of them unless they are showing obvious deterioration. There are no signs that it has been butchered and appears 100% original.Apparently it has hardly been used for the last 15 years. I will make some new timber cheeks in some special timber as the originals are a bit damaged and were only vinyl wrapped imitation rosewood anyway.
  13. Tannoy dual concentric speakers always seem to have a rightness to them. I have owned Duntech type stepped baffle speakers [Sonique Encore SE] and they did have very good imaging but I preferred them with the felt surrounding the dome mids and tweeters removed. The imaging was a tiny bit more precise with the felt but you lost some of the harmonics/timbre/ atmosphere with the felt in place. So I am not completely convinced that is the best approach.
